Russian Subs Patrolling Off East Coast of U.S.

No. Not likely, that. Their boats were noisy damn things.

I bet. Communist technology and what not. The fact they worked at all is shocking.

But we've certainly followed them and their "trawlers" off shore to see what they were up to in the Cold War.

Nothing to see here, really. Just typical stuff.

We absolutely do the same thing.

In fact, this is what the LA class subs spend their time doing in the Atlantic...following Russian subs around and dodging in and out of their waters.

In the pacific, we do the same thing with the Chinese subs.

If they ever fire off a few rounds, by all means start a thread. Just hanging out offshore? Whatever.

Hmm so the Russian have sent over two of their Schuka-B/Akula Class Boat no biggie. The one that was caught running on the Surface appears to be either K-267 Drakon an Akula I update or K-328 Leopard also a Akula Class I update.

As for the other boat I would suspect it is either K-157 Vepr the lead Akula II class boat or K-335 Gepard third boat in the Akula II Class. One thing is sure they are from the 24th Division of the Northern Fleet and are based in Saida-guba,Gadzhievo.

Think about who the president is and you'll have your answer.

sabr rule = Simple answers to complicated questions are virtually always wrong. Your answer just proved my rule.

This act by the Russians is most likely a combination of the Russian need to try and make beleive that they are still a world class super power and also maybe a marketing campaign. The Russians have been trying to sell some subs to the Indians ( Hindistani not North American). So they could very well be displaying the ange the capabilities of their subs.

I'm just like a good mechanic...I check the simplest stuff, first. If an engine won't crank, the first thing to do is see if has gas.

I was just a crew member on the sub, hardly knew where we were much less what was going on.
But in later years I was involved with SOSUS, the tracking of their subs and surface ships using hydrophones. That system is mostly retired by now, we have more modern means of tracking their ships.

This is about a good a read on the subject as any....
Blind man's bluff: the untold story of American submarine espionage...

But IMO the current reason is probably as sabr said, they just want to feel like they are participants in a game they can never win. They might score a few points but there is no winning unless they get their Navy back up to speed.
India just launched thier own home built sub. They might be done with buying Naval hardware from others.
