California public union OKs strike authorization

that's strange. in the OP - your OP - and from your cite - this was found:
[emphasis added by bubba]

you should correct them
You should do your own research:

Overview | CTA
The California Teachers Association represents and serves more than 340,000 members, consisting of teachers and other education employees, including Education Support Professionals (ESPs).
SEIU - Service Employees International Union - Fast Facts
Public Services - SEIU is the second largest union of public service employees with 850,000 local and state government workers, public school employees, bus drivers, and child care providers - 49,000 of which joined SEIU in early 2005 in one of the largest union elections in U.S. history.
The Reuters reporter has a small factual error. The SEIU represents child care workers, including Head Start "teachers", but most actual teachers in California are members of the CTA.

So they strike?

Big deal.

The longer they strike, the less they get paid.

The longer they strike, the more voters realize they're not needed.

Sounds all to the good to me.

I agree. I think the strike would be a step forward for the state. I still don't have faith though that next year at election time Californians will see to it to fire all of their elected officials that caused this mess. I'm sure the majority of them will be sent back to Sacramento.

ok, so it's agreed. you provided an erroneous post
What I provided was a news update on the SEIU, that shows the SEIU willing to strike if necessary to maintain the status quo in California. Your teapot tempest about teachers (whom the SEIU does not represent and would not be affected by this) does not alter the folly of their gesture, nor the wisdom of firing the whole sorry lot of them should they be so kind as to strike.

Do try to stay on topic. :2wave:

This is really sad. It was just a few years ago the people would uproot themselves just for the chance to live in California. I think we'd have to go back to Pompeii to find a city that went from a pleasant, sunny place to live, to a wasteland so quickly.

I left that state for college and haven't looked back since. People ask if I'll return upon graduation, but the way things are headed I don't think I'll be back for a while.

I said the same thing about Texas for a very long time.

This could be a blessing in disguise for California. If SEIU strikes, the Governator could fire the whole sorry lot of them (and being fired that way would probably mean no need to pay the parasites unemployment), while creating 95,000 immediate job openings to pull people off the unemployment rolls. Not to mention busting one of the more parasitical unions outside the UAW.

Arnie doesn't have the balls to fire them. It would be funny, but we can go ahead and forget that.

Probably not, but one can always hope!

You're exactly right. He knows as well as you and I do, that if he canned all those folks, Al and Jesse would be all over him and the rest of the PC, "afraid to called a racist", community would support them.

PBO would call Arnie: "Ok, let me be clear..."

Unions represent the interests of a large group of people, who, as human beings, only care about the welfare of their lives and their progeny. It is not completely a bad idea to organize for good working conditions and fair treatment; That way of living generally helped increase the living standards of americans in the 1950's. But like any action, if you get greedy, you lose.

Yes, unions should look for good working conditions, but it's important to understand that if the companies(or government) they work for is not able to compete(or function), the striking for higher wages hurts their livelihoods more than it hurts the owners, who can lay them off.

He would accuse the Governator of acting stupidly, and the Governator would point out that Dear Leader is a girly man, and the conversation would go downhill from there.

I can just picture him saying that too.....

I admit, that was a quite funny.

I live in Ca. their are a lot of people working who are taking 1 or 2 days off a week so that other co workers won't be laid off.But the government workers are to greedy to think that way.
They should lay off the DMV workers first,if you've been to a Ca. DMV you would know what i mean.
