Harriet Harman: you can’t trust men in power

I find this as offensive as a white person saying Mexicans are best suited for field work because they are generally shorter or something equally as stupid

She represents no one but herself - She is by no means representative of her constituents or the british public.

Harriet Harperson is a massive disapointment. It almost seems as if female MP are picked at random for Cabinet jobs but at one point i thought she was one of the truely talentend ones.

It gets worse ...

Life is hard for female ministers

Harriet Harman has expressed sympathy for female ministers who find it difficult “being a woman in a man’s world”, and insisted that men should not be left to run things on their own.

Ms Harman, Labour’s Deputy Leader and the Minister for Women and Equality, said that one of the party’s top two positions should always be held by a woman and that the party would never have a male leader and deputy again, as was the case with Tony Blair and John Prescott.

“I don’t agree with all-male leaderships,” she said in remarks that will be seen as a bid to remain at the top table after the next election.

What will be interesting to see in the US, is whenever Ginsberg steps down from the Supreme Court, if there will be pressure to keep the seat she vacated a "female" seat. There might be less pressure, with Sotomayer present, but I wonder if there would be uproar(particularly from feminists) if Ginsberg is replaced with a male.

Well, there's nothing wrong with trying to keepthe Supreme court as representative of the public as possible, I think.

I have a problem with it. I think it is stupid.
I wouldn't care if our law lords are all male and white, as long as they do their job and got appointed through work not political correctness.

I don't even know if we have any female law lords. Do we?

Its funny how some people care more about what colour, gender etc. a person is as if it is important.

If they were supposed to be representative, we would vote for them.

They are supposed to be appointed, due to their ability to analyze and apply the laws of the land, and strike down laws that are unconstitutional. Having a penis, vagina, or a 6th toe is irrelevant to that ability.

Oh, I agree completely. I just don't see how wishing to see more equally qualified women appointed to the Supreme Court is at all harmful.

Meh, beats creating a new thread on the same woman

Male bankers are responsible for financial crisis

Harriet Harman today appeared to blame the onset of the global financial crisis on too many male bankers.

The Labour Deputy Leader called for more women to be given seats in the boardrooms of the biggest financial institutions and suggested they would do a better job than men.

Referring to one of the U.S. banks which folded, Ms Harman said: 'Someone said that if it had been Lehman Sisters, instead of Lehman Brothers, there might not have been so much difficulty

:doh

This site is a perfect example of why harman is wrong. You can blame it on education social attitudes etc but if we can take this time as a snapshot of time there just isnt as many women interested in politics as men.

Even on a free to join up site debating politics its like 80/20 we have some great women posters on here but its still lopsided.

Yup ... she is trying to force her own agenda on us.

The same way we never see men in the beauty industry because they are simply not interested.
If we want to see women in politics, maybe women should start paying attention more in politics.
