My Way News - AP sources: Senators near bipartisan health deal

A bipartisan group of senators is closing in on a health care compromise that omits key Democratic priorities but seeks to hold down costs, as lawmakers on both sides of the Capitol labor to deliver sweeping health legislation to President Barack Obama.

After weeks of secretive talks, three Democrats and three Republicans on the Senate Finance Committee were edging closer to a compromise that excludes a requirement many congressional Democrats seek for large businesses to offer coverage to their workers. Nor would there be a provision for a government insurance option, despite Obama's support for such a plan, officials said.
Looks like an alternative to GovernmentCare might be developing in the Senate, although it looks as if IMAC might still be an idea they're kicking around.

Is the Senate looking for the nearest exit on this? Is this their attempt to say "see? we did health care reform"?

It looks like the same thing is about to happen that happened back when Hilary tried to champion health care reform, it will be quietly burried in lip-service legislation.

One of two things really needs to be happening: either a solid and efficient UHC platform, and/or sweeping reforms on the health care industry such as tort reform and stricter regulations on insurance companies.

It seems that both are gradually and deliberately being overlooked. I bet with a little research, you'd discovered that a sizeable chunk of congress has received lobbying funds from various corporate powers.

Same old story.

If there is no government insurance option, how is it different from what we have now?

While I am vehemently opposed to government insurance, that's actually a damn good question. On the surface, I get the sense from the article that the answer is "not much."

Then, it would be just another bill to take money out of pockest, because you bet they're not going to remove the revenue generating elements of the legislation.

It lets Dear Leader claim he has delivered on his healthcare promises. ;)

.

It's basically the congress failing on their end. Not only was Obama elected in on the idea of health care reform, but the democratic congress was too. This is not a failure on Obama's part but if this happens, it will be a failure on the congresses, which congress seems to excel at.

Mark my words. This is going to be a very empty bill by the time it passes (if it does). It will be so because Democrats on the hill are predominately spineless politicians with an a** to cover. I wish that Democrats had as much disregard for the minority party as the Republicans did throughout this past decade.

obama is the worst salesman at the national level i have ever seen

the more he talks, the faster backwards he goes

he's lost

the mere contemplation of this sellout signals that the AGENDA OF NO prevails (there is no party of NO, the gop is whipped)

a lot of smart talk today says pelosi/obama were foolish to do cap and trade first

gene green from houston is the loudest

leadership lost a lot of credibility when it had to break arms to get that loser thru lower house

and then boxer put it off in the senate, cap and trade

why should congressfolk stick their necks out again when they know the senate will leave them hanging

the prez meanwhile can offer no cover

i'm sorry, but president obama has been trying to sell his massive reform of 16% of the US economy possessed of no more hard answers about exactly how to do this than he supplied when pressed over the closure of gitmo

which is why he lost that one on the expensive blue carpet, 90 to 6, cuz he couldn't provide a single how, where, when...

the failure of the stimulus was the first crack in the authority of pelosi/obama

cap and trade was the last straw

obama hasn't a clue what he's doing

look at the way he brought up the prof vs the po-po at the end of the primetime presser last wednesday

not real smart

worst salesman at the national level i've ever seen

his polls are plummeting

bluedogs have lost respect

when they get home for recess they are lost to him

sorry

What this means is with the right amount of pressure applied we can still stop this idiotic massive mistake that even if it's watered down it will still lead to rationed care, premature deaths to the elderly, and an end to your choice of insurance. If you doubt that read page 16; http://waysandmeans.house.gov/media/pdf/111/AAHCA09001xml.pdf Here's the whole Bill for you.
And know this fact your Senator and Congressperson who are pushing this crazy UNAMERICAN plan have NO IDEA what's in it. Read this; Rep. Conyers Won?t Bother Reading Health Care Bill Before Vote | Judicial Watch
Don't go around defending what you don't know or can't understand yet. It's not the same as fighting to put the brakes on something you don't yet know fully or understand. That is a reasonable stance to take.
Does the system need reform? Hell yes! Is this how to go about fixing it? Hell no!
We made it 233 years without it. 6 months or longer to make sure it's right and not a completely Socialist plan that will destroy the Country is not too much to ask.
