Teen pregnancy and disease rates rose sharply during Bush years, agency finds

My original post was in response that education and birth control only, without abstinence, are the alpha and omega for the prevention of teen pregnancy. The point being, that if you teach teens how to have sex and use birth control more teens are going to **** and more teens are going to get pregnant and it shouldn't come as a shock and it certainly isn't Bush's fault.
OOOooooo :2wave:

Apparently I'm the one who can't read today :doh

Has anyone else seen the show "16 and pregnant"?

I actually like it. I think it shows the reality of teenage pregnancy pretty well.

I've seen a part of that show. It makes me think that we're becoming a nation of dumb sluts.

Who needs to be taught how to use a condom? Put it on like a sock, plug your nose, and it's done.

You'd be surprised. For a long time the school I went to didn't have a sex ed program. I've heard some very bizarre and hilariously absurd stories.

Granted, but don't get all shocked and shaken, when teen pregnancies go up after you've tought them how to have sex and use birth control.

Funny, the numbers do not show that. Weird. In fact, the CDC reported doing what you suggest made the numbers go up here in Dixie. Predictably, too.

Well wtf why not? I mean if the can show a birth....

shrug.gif

Abortion videos has only recentley been allowed to be seen by the public on TV. (channels previously refused to air any such programmes or videos)
The Government would string up anyone who showed it to a bunch of 15 year olds at school

I remember watching a controversial channel 4 documentary a while back My Foetus, it was the first time abortion has ever been shown on UK TV's. Haha, there were warnings before and after the documentary with a numberline 'phone here if you need any help'

I think you make some good point here, Chuck, but I don't believe it to be the whole story. There's no doubt that advertising/TV/movies/etc, have been "sexified" but it has been happening for a while now. And while it was happening, teen pregnancy declined. So to me, there's more to the story.

And this is not a bash Bush thread... it is based-on facts. And the fact is, teen pregnancy sharply went up during his tenure.
And that makes it his fault PERSONALLY.

So the ONLY sex ed classes being taught, are those taught by nuns right???? The regular sex ed program was abolished?

Does anyone have a link to the CDC study itself?

And that makes it his fault PERSONALLY.

Next time you get involved in an "Obama bashing" thread, no matter how factual it may be, I will post "Sigh... and yet ANOTHER Obama bashing thread," just because discussion and debating mean **** to me.

Middleground tells you she's not blaming Bush--she's noting that teen pregnancy and disease increased sharply during Bush's presidency, yet you still say, "Well, if you want to blame a president . . ." Can you tell me again where she BLAMED Bush? You can provide incredibly rational posts, StandUp, but then you can provide these ridiculous partisan posts. It's disappointing to see an intelligent person acting like a child. Really.

You want to blame Bush? Well, I blame Clinton for blow jobs and Democrats for the pregnancy issue in Glouster, Massachusetts. (This is you throwing a trantrum over an inaccurate inference you made of Middleground's post.) If the shoe fits.......

You know what aps? I get tired of your "passionate" finger pointing and silly lecturing. I could give a crap if you're disappointed in me or if you think my posts are temper tantrums. There's nothing childish about my contribution to this thread. You're the only one not making a point here. So if the shoe fits, as you said.

I made a lot more sense as to what could be causing the sharp increase of teen pregnancy and stds than the alleged correlation between Bush's interest in abstinence only programs than the OP did. So Middle's not saying exactly that she's blaming Bush, but it certainly sounds like it's being inferred with just a quick glance at her responses:

After a long decline in teen pregnancy, it's just coincidence?

I don't buy it.

Agreed this could play a part. But it has been happening for a long time. BUT the trend was going down, and now it's gone up sharply.

Whay are you so certain it was not Bush's policies of absitnence??? How can you be that positive?

Middle & I may be coming from 2 different POVs, but at least she's being respectful, and we're having a discussion. Save your lecturing about how disappointed you are in me. It's getting tiresome, and I simply don't care.

Maybe I making things to easy but teenager are atleast smart enough to know that sex can lead to pregnancy and diseases without education. They probably also know that condom works, the problem is that they don't always know what options to condoms that doesn't work. Like for example that they can believe pulling out early will prevent pregnancy or that you can't get diseases from oral sex.

Kids don't see the full picture. They picture a happy kid and a happy boyfriend playing mother and father and that's it. They don't imagine the nine months of ardour or the coming years of financial slavery and emotional draining that comes along with a child. I know I didn't hear a teacher mention the financial effort and energy needed to raise a child. It was all 'use a condom' without explaining WHY that's useful.

And I'd like to see evidence that supports teenages getting pregnant in correlation with Hannah Montana wearing a push-up bra. That's in the same vein as video games causing people to kill each other. It's ridiculous and confined to a very narrow box.

Have any of you been paying attention to what has been going on the world the last 10 years
  • BJ's in the oval office while commiting adultery and how it is not sex
  • First Major attack on our Homeland
  • Saddam has WMDs
  • N Korea, with a madman at the helm, has nukes
  • Pakistan, a rogue nation, has nukes
  • Terrorists can kill 10s of 1000s of americans with a dirty bomb brought through our pourous Southern border
  • We are at war in Afghanistan, where nobody ever wins
  • we are at war in Iraq.
  • Slaughter at the Russian theatre
  • Slaughter at the Russian School
  • Bush/Cheney, according to the libs are fear mongerers (which I am sure their children heard while the freaks yelled such at their tv or radio)
  • ex after ex after ex
  • Basicallly the world is on the edge of self destruction
So why not **** like rabbits because its all going to end soon

All because of the melodramatic hypocondriatic response to BDS

For the most part I agree with you here. However, the paparazzi has also been completely out of control lately. Many of the camera people are actually trying to get upskirt shots of these "celebrities". They are the gutter press and they know that they will get paid well for doing so. I'm not saying that there aren't famous people out there who are constantly trying to show off their vajayjay on purpose though.

That is one hell of a soapbox, Deej. Golly.

Wait, so we are blaming the president for what teens do?

Well, he did put a gun to their heads.

Why do you think he took all of those vacation days? There are a lot of teenagers out there that needed to be forced to do things.

Did the population of crawford have a surge or something?

And 99 percent of those pregnant and diseased voted for Obama.

I think it's wrong to blame Bush for most of the things he get's the blame for. He is, of course, only one part of the government branch and it takes a large team of individuals to come up with sexual education reform and these programs. Take this as a positive: at least you know what doesn't work.

What did I suggest doing, exactly?

Wait, so we are blaming the president for what teens do?

When it goes down in Bush's term, of course we do. I mean, Bush caused hurricane Katrina to hit New Orleans, so he could send Blackwater to blowup the levees and kill all the blacks. Didn't you know that?

Alyssa Milano said it better than I ever could since I have no clue
The paparazzi, unless 'tipped off' usually by the celeb, or 'their people', only work 3 specific areas. If they do not want to be shot by paparazzi, they would not go to those areas or tip them off

That is one hell of a soapbox, Deej. Golly.
so you agree that the degradation of moral values has more to do than who is in office
after all, those who get it, get it. they dont need a sex ed class to make them realized all the complications sex involve, usually because of the involved parent(s)
those that 'think they get it' are going to go their own way no matter what you say. So whats the point
very few actually learn fron sex ed and use tha as a basis for making sexual decisions

or would you care to dispute all my positions posted from 'my soapbox'
it can all be boiled down to Liberals, for 8 years screaming the world is ending: Bush/Cheney, should have included in previous post Global Warming, war, terrorism yada yada yada

My kitten got stuck in a tree on January 19, 2009.... therefore it was obviously Bush's fault!! No, no wait, it was a RIGHTWING CONSPIRACY, yeah, that's it!
