Thousands of heavily armed soldiers have been deployed in Mexico in the government's latest efforts to crack down on the country's drug war.
Troops set up roadblocks on major highways in the western state of Michoacan on Saturday in response to a series of drug gang attacks on police.
Armed with automatic weapons, soldiers wearing ski masks to shield their identities searched vehicles for signs of drug smuggling after the government ordered 5,500 troops to deploy to the area by land, sea and air in the marijuana-growing region, also the President's home state.

While we can discuss legalization in other thread. I think this crackdown is long overdue. With violence in Mexico via drug related crimes is pandemic, its about time Mexico started taking care of Mexico's problem, and about time they stopped blaming the US.

I think what is going on in Mexico is absolutely frightening and a lot different then our media is feeding us. I remember when it very first started a lot of the people protested against the army being their. Then our news told us that all those people where just being paid by the cartel to be fake protestors.

"...its about time Mexico started taking care of Mexico's problem, and about time they stopped blaming the US."

If it wasn't for the fact that the vast majority of ALL illegal drugs in the world were consumed by Americans there would not be this problem. America's dependence on illegal drugs is the root cause of Mexico's problems.

Nonsense..... It's the making illegal of drugs that fuels this market, however its Mexicos refusal to address the problem in ITS borders that are the root cause for Mexicos problems.

BINGO. They blame us because, well, it's our fault. Not 100%, of course, but the cartels are dealing in illegal drugs, right? And where are said drugs going? To the world's largest illegal drug Wal Mart: The United States. If I were Mexico I would ship the cartel leaders right to the border. Let the folks who caused the problem deal with them.

Great!?

Think about what you are saying.

You are for the Mexican government to legalize drugs of all types for transshipment across the country of Mexico (with a small tax). The promise from all drug lords to keep their hand off of the local and state governments of Mexico. That Mexico then seal their borders from all illegal traffic from the north. Anything going north is just fine. (Sort of the reverse of what we have here.)

Hey if that works for you....great.

All drugs made legal is more than stupid. It's dangerous.

So you support government control over your body? Prohibition only waste tax dollars. Billions of it at that.

What???

The making and selling of drugs in and through mexico, and into the US is the supply side of the drug market. It meets and exceeds demand.
