There's an article about his "women" history in today's Washington Post. He gets divorced from one woman and marries the next one within a year (he did this twice). One woman (not his wife) donated a kidney to him when he underwent a transplant last year. WTH?

Ex-Girlfriend Worked for Barry as a Contractor

D.C. Council member Marion Barry hired his then-girlfriend as a city contractor two months after they began a relationship that eventually led to Barry's arrest on stalking charges, according to city records.

Barry (D-Ward 8) notified the council secretary's office in October that his office intended to hire Donna Watts-Brighthaupt as a contractor specializing in "poverty reduction strategies," according to the records reviewed by The Washington Post.

Watts-Brighthaupt has been paid $15,000, and the secretary's office has a purchase order authorizing payment of an additional $5,000, council officials said.

I almost posted in this thread but it seemed like the interest in this subject matter had died down. You're right. These people keep voting the guy in because they likely have lots in common with him. Yes, I know how horrible that sounds, but it's true.

There will be an investigation into this transaction with this woman. The Washington Post has an editorial today about this and another concern:

Less than a week after the disclosure that Mr. Barry directed $15,000 to a then-girlfriend, the Washington City Paper reported on Mr. Barry's use of legislative earmarks to fund six nonprofit groups in Ward 8 that apparently are controlled by his staff.

A female officer I work with and I have half of his popular stuff memorized and often quote sections of chris rock comedy in relevance to whatever happens to be going on at the time.

Well, I'd agree that you can greatly reduce your chances of getting your butt kicked by the police by behaving in a certain way, but that's still no guarantee.

My husband was pulled over by the police (one of Washington DC's finest). The cop ticketed him for running a yellow light and "failure to yield." My husband denies that he did either (and I believe him because he is a safe driver with a pretty good driving record).

The cop was verbally and emotionally (but not physically) abusive. It sounded like he was in a foul mood and wanted to take it out on somebody.
