Too many jobs lost, Obama says in AP interview

If they refuse to work, that's a more reasonable option than holding me up at gunpoint to feed them.

Then again, they could decide to work for less money.
No no no no no no!
Don't you understand!?!?!!?!?!?

You are entitled to work for what you think you are worth and live the way you think you should be able to live - regardless of what you do!!

By the virtue of you being an American, you should be insulated from pressures produced by the free labor market!!

Especially if you are a member of a union!!!

:doh

Conservatives "concerned about other Americans" It doesn't get any more real than this folks. No wonder they are losing elections.

Your concession is accepted.

You lack of reality is showing, there is no concession on my part. Keep dreaming and look up hooked on phonics if you thought that was a concession on my part.

I am not conceding anything to you.

Not really, but you are right in one thing, government is not the answer.

The jobs won't come back because companies can outsource cheaper than they can produce here.

Free-market has said "do it overseas".

Making our economy hostile to private industry certainly isn't the answer.

It isn't hostile, many jobs are going overseas simply because they are below min wage.

Min wage was set in this country like it or not.

No company that goes oversease should be given Federal tax cuts for it.

PBO is making it more hostile to private business everyday.

PBO bailed out the companies that WANTED TO BE BAILED OUT.

They could have failed and been done with it, but nooooo, they wanted to suck the governments tit. Well that is what happened.

That has nothing to do with what I mean. He's gone after the oil and gas industry, the tobacco industry. He's killed a bunch of jobs there. Most of those oilfield jobs are going overseas as we speak. We're going to be importing more foreign oil than we ever have. The tobacco industry is gone, either overseas, or just plain gone. PBO is going to raise coporate taxes, much to the joy of the Liberals, who think that private business is bad.

PBO's only just begun to destroy private industry in this country.

You know how he could make more jobs?

If we had spent the amount of money we spent on the stimulus bill and used it instead on removing the illegals from our country we could free up millions of jobs as well as create nationwide jobs for those catching/deporting them.

We could take most everybody that is welfare and give them one of those jobs, then tax their income. Perfect!

Easy for you to say that when you aren't one of the people making that.
At times in my life I did, and made due. Again, some money is better than no money.

I cannot stand the way politicians talk about job loss. They act like if they don't DO SOMETHING (AKA government expansion and spending) the jobs will never come back, as if the only reason those jobs existed in the first place was our magnanimous government.

The jobs WILL come back and the economy WILL recover; it just takes TIME for the free market to self-correct, that is, if we allow it to, which we're not.

Well, many people believe that the leader of the nation has a large portion of responsibility for the economy (an I agree with you, he is quite limited in his powers), but it's just another weekly statement that is both politically smart (so as to withstand criticism by the other party for not "caring" enough, etc etc.) and socially smart (people tend to generally wish the President would continue to see things through the eyes of the average person.

On that front, it is good that Obama continues to do even the small things to keep morale up. I wouldn't be so critical.

I remeber when the big cry was about robots replacing workers.
That's just another form of outsourcing.
Why would a company NOT automate jobs that can be automated?
And, doesnt doing so create a demand for jobs, in and of itself?

It pays for itself in a shorter amount of time then if you had hired labor, although automated machinery, in a lot cases, has to be custom built so it's very expensive.

It creates demand for maintenance techs, industrial engineers, robotics engineers, electricians, and so on.
After a company installs such a line they can move on to expand their total product offering, employing more people.

All this is lost on those who want to keep unskilled labor though.

People sacrifice production going after these shortsighted goals. It's such a shame that people fall for it so easily.

The future of industry is in automation and nano construction.

I'm still doing factory labor at this point in my life but I'm going to school because I know that eventually these jobs will no longer exist (that and I want more money).

Recently, my company have replaced a 3 person job with an automated machine that only requires periodic refilling.

I wouldn't be so sure with the way that thought is progressing in this country.

It's an unnatural progression for sure.

Most of my coworkers have no interest on going to school at all.
They are nice people and can be enjoyable to be around but their overall behavior is very poor.

^^Are you a part of a union?

^^Are you a part of a union?

Non union, I would almost violently fight against one trying to set up shop here.

My company provides excellent benefits without the need of a union.
Hell, its in my best interest not only as an employee but as a stock holder to fight a union.

^^So how do the employees act so badly? Is there no threat of losing their job?

It's more of their personal behavior than work ethic.

Buying lottery tickets, no interest in education, no financial planning (savings, investment, etc.), I can guarantee that almost everyone there drinks it up on the weekends, buying stuff at rent to own stores, that kind of stuff.
