Coleman concedes Minnesota Senate race after court decision

Re: BREAKING: Minnesota's highest court rules for Al Franken

Al Franken was a fairly influential political commentator for twelve years before the election, anyway, not merely a transplanted comedian.

Not only that, but he entertained troops in Iraq several times, when the war was so hot the USO couldn't get anyone to go. He's a solid guy, and will make a fine senator.

and as a bonus, he has a low opinion of Rush Limbaugh....so he must at least be smarter than a dittohead...

Re: BREAKING: Minnesota's highest court rules for Al Franken

Idiot? I daresay Al Franken has at least the intellect you do. He is committed to honorably serving his country, despite his shady past as a comedian. I suspect all the "idiots" you see just happen to be Democrats.

By the way, this is obviously breaking news, and I think Jerry is making a fool of himself carping about the fine print.

How is being a comedian a "shady past"? Or is there something I am unaware of in his past?

Next few days should be interesting. Will Pawlenty actually sign the election certificate? Will Norm Coleman realize he is pretty much unelectable? How many jokes at Coleman's expense will happen the next few days? How many times will the right bitch about a comedian in the senate, and the same day praise Reagan, an actor from President?

Re: BREAKING: Minnesota's highest court rules for Al Franken

The fact that no one can seem to follow the BN rules is somewhat of a pet-peeve with me.

Does no one remember what it was like before those rules were adopted?

Whatever, I said my piece on it. I don't have anything on the topic itself so I'll bow out now :2wave:

I exercised good faith in trying to adhere to the rules (which I do care about).. I even went back and edited it when i realized the link reflected an address to the word "blog" in it. before you decided to pounce and totally derail the entire thread with your crap - that is what i dont care about.

As soon as there was a link to a non blog source, I posted it, and I intended to despite your input. so why don't we stop making an issue of it, if you dont like it report me, ill get the points, and we can move on with actually discussing the thread itself...

A congratulations sounds about right.
Well it's seems about the right time Minnoesota had someone representing it in Congress especially at a climate like this.
Who was standing in their place whilst the two were fighting it out in court?

yeah but he was a comedic commentator.. who cares that he actually knows a lot about politics.. he is funny.. we cant have comedians in office.. congress itself is already enough of a joke

Re: BREAKING: Minnesota's highest court rules for Al Franken

nope not at all, it was breaking news, I posted it.. here i can fix part of it for you all to get some panties unwadded a tad, now that they have moved it out of their "breaking news" section/

Court declares Franken the winner of Minnesota Senate race - CNN.com

You only violated a technicality ! This is breaking news and you obviously did not have any intent to break the BN rules. The very worst thing that you should be charged with is premature/anticipatory thread creation. And since we are not in Iranistan that was not a capital offense.

The seat was vacant, and still is..pending Pawlentey's actions, and perhaps other legal injunctions

****e. I'd be pissed if i was a citizen and didn't have any legal representation especially considering the amount of huge bills that has passed through the Senate regarding the economy o_O

Re: BREAKING: Minnesota's highest court rules for Al Franken

I think a lot of people are prematurely judging Franken. His abilities as a Senator remain to be seen. He may be an idiotic choice to some for various reasons, but he is ultimately the choice of the people and their decision should be respected as should the Democratic process.

Some of us are old enough to remember when Ronald Reagan The Actor was sent to Washington and a bit less than half of the electorate said that an actor could never make a decent or viable president. Some people actually belieive that Ron was an ok president even though he was a grade B actor. Franken being at least an A- 'ha ha man ' who knows he may end up losing some of his liberalism and be ok.

My news just said Coleman has conceded Franken won. Hmm ...

There will be no other legal actions. I just watched a Coleman press conference, and he has conceded the race. It is all over now.

Re: BREAKING: Minnesota's highest court rules for Al Franken

The Associated Press: GOP's Coleman concedes, sending Franken to Senate

Republican Norm Coleman has conceded to Democrat Al Franken in Minnesota's contested Senate race, ending a nearly eight-month recount and court fight. Coleman conceded at a news conference in St. Paul, a few hours after a unanimous Minnesota Supreme Court ruled Tuesday the former "Saturday Night Live" comedian and liberal commentator should be certified the winner.

Franken's presence in the Senate would give the Democrats control of 60 seats, enough to overcome any Republican filibuster if they stay united.

I cannot believe how stupid people are. AL FRANKEN!? This country is full of fools.

Just Minnesota, mostly.

Franken though is an IRL hyperpartisan troll....

Ya hear that, Middleground? Your conservative hyper-partisanship has been called out. You won't hide behind that Maple leaf for long!

Thank God we have Will to sniff you evil conservatives out. :rofl:rofl

Isn't that almost a definition of "politician". He should fit right in then.

Not really, many people try to be "bipartisan" to appeal to independents... Franken is as partisan as it gets.

Would you support Rush Limbaugh for Senate?

Moderator's Warning:
First, cut the flaming of people out. Its happening far to much and needs to end.

Second, we appreciate any reports you have, however please lets keep the derails of threads by discussing what you think violates or doesn't violate a rule to a minimum.

Thirdly, the thread for now will remain, with the link provided by the OP later to a legitimate news source being placed into the first post. This is a legitimate "breaking news" story and has happened in the past, providing a link to a legitimate source soon after the initial "breaking" of the story can sometimes be done on a situational basis.

Fourthly, any other violations of the rules that the OP may've done and any action they may or may not be subject to is between that user and the mods.

Now, please, lets focus on the topic.

You just showed that you have common sense. I guess you don't live in Minnesota.

Minnesota became a bit of a novelty election state with electing Jesse Ventura as governor. Then California stole it away when they elected Arnold Schwarzenegger as governor. It looks like they've just reclaimed their title.
