Iraqis rejoice as U.S. troops leave Baghdad

Wonderful to see this happening. I've been one saying all along the goal, ultimately, needs to be pulling out in such a way that a stable and sufficient Iraq can step up and take over as we pull out with minimal issues. I won't be surprised by a mild upswing in attacks as we leave, but if they repel it well enough it'll be great. Hopefully baghdad is the first on a long line of places we pull out and turn power over to the Iraqi's.

Watching people who for years have been talking about how Bush was "wasting" American lives now sitting here essentially not giving a **** about Iraq baffles me and makes me realize how sad politics is when people just want to score points. Regardless of your thoughts about Iraq, our men and women did spend their time, blood, and sweat there with many giving their lives, in the hopes of making it a workable, salvagable democracy within the Middle East. I sincerely and truly hope that it works out that way and that it is a good example of democracy for the Middle East to see and an example for their revolting neighbors to the north of what could be with freedom. That they remain a strong ally in a difficult area of the world. Regardless of your views about the war, it DID happen, our men and women DID put their time in there, and we as a country should be hoping that the efforst there work for the good of this COUNTRY instead of flippantly not caring either way because if it works out well it may actually paint George W. Bush in a positive light.

Hahah.
If US/Obama/The President at that time is stupid enough to risk its soldiers again if Iraq goes to the dump. Then good for it, but i suggest looking to France for backup this time.

France for what cooking the meals sure then we will ask the French to come in other then that no thanks.

Hey I know we can ask all of your Syrian who live in Britain oh wait thats right they can't even go and throw out their Dictator.

He may do what he did in Pakistan with random air strikes but i doubt soldiers will be go back to Iraq in huge numbers to re control the country.
Still looking for specifics here -- how many troops can He send in before you call it "full force" or "huge numbers"?

You are looking for specifics for a hypothetical? Good luck with that.

Just looking for the terms of the 'bet'. Obviously, Laila is looking to hedge, so she can say that "Well, he sent 30,000 troops back, but there were originally 130,000 there, so that doesn't count".

I say any force that may return and "occupy" areas to restore order, regardless of size, should be considered full re-entry.

You're welcome Iraq. :2wave:

Don't waste this grand opportunity we have given you.

As I understand it, this is only a partial draw-down, and mainly in Baghdad.

And some are staying as advisors and trainers.

And more will come back if they ask.

Actually you are right. In Southern Iraq, in the area known as Ur, there is a massive military base that is to remain for many years.
