Cleric: some in Iran unrest 'worthy of execution'


Iran's increasingly isolated opposition leader effectively ended his role in street protests, saying he'll seek permits for future rallies. A leading cleric demanded in a nationally broadcast sermon Friday that leaders of the unrest be punished harshly and said some are "worthy of execution."

Iran's ruling clergy has widened its clampdown on the opposition since a bitterly disputed June 12 presidential election, and scattered protests have replaced the initial mass rallies.

The official Web site of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi, his main tool of communicating with his supporters, was hacked Friday, leaving it blank, an aide said.

Mousavi has said victory was stolen from him through fraud, challenging the proclamation of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the winner.

Are we more than "appalled" yet Mr. President???? I find it shocking that this is nowhere on the president's lips, and all we hear about is the dead pedophile.

Well they do arm our enemies. We could start there.


Bigger sanctions, yes, world condemnation, etc. to START.

Where in the constitution does it empower the executive branch do do these things?

Who gets a monopoly on defining proper? I think not intervening is proper. Pointing out how much better we have it is the proper extent of our involvement.

Of course people are free to join foreign legions and what not, but that is individual actions, not the actions of a government formed to protect individual liberty at home.

What if france held your same opinion back in the 1700's?

our war for independence likely would of went on longer if France was not so keen on sticking it to their enemy.

I'm still not really sure what you are calling for, other then for Obama to act more like a king then a constitutional president.

All I know is the power to pursue policy is in congress but you started a thread deriding the president for lack of activity. When I asked you what we should do, you mentioned things that congress has the power to do.
