New Unemployment Claims Rise Unexpectedly to 627,000

Fox news / AP
Thursday, June 25, 2009

WASHINGTON -- The number of people filing new jobless claims jumped unexpectedly last week, and the total unemployment benefit rolls rose to more than 6.7 million.

The Labor Department data released Thursday show jobs remain scarce even as the economy shows some signs of recovering from the longest recession since World War II.

It really annoys me that this event is referred to as "unexpected." People on my side of the room, have been predicting such trends since November.

It's like hiring a bus driver whose sole experience related to the job was organizing neighborhoods to demand mass transit, then proclaiming surprise when he crashes the motor coach.

That was my very first thought when I read the title of the thread...LOL

Instead of showing the slightest bit of sympathy for all of those newly unemployed you use this terrible news to make a silly joke at the president's expense. You know very well that this recession officially started in April or May 08 before the President was even nominated. You should also remember that talk of a looming recession goes back to late 2007 or even earlier. The writing was on the wall when President Obama was still Senator Obama. It took years to sink our economy and it is unreasonable to expect the President to fix it in a matter of months. So keep telling your silly jokes it only makes your side of the room look like they are as removed from reality as ever.

Yeah, it's not Obama's fault! How can you make light of this tragic situation?!?!
You should be on your knee's thanking whatever deity figure you choose to believe in... that we have such a great and intelligent man in the white house who will fix the mess that moron before him made!
;)

In case you didn't notice, it's still sinking; faster even. It won't be much long before your boy is going to have to own this economy. The, "I inherited this", line is losing it's punch, fast.

You just can't kill jobs and fix the economy.

True it started under Bush, but I thought that was the reason they pushed that stimulus bill and demanded it passed as soon as possible, before people could read it, and that this bill was suppose to fix things and get the economy going again w/created jobs...sorry created/saved jobs. Things are worse after the stimulus than they predicted it would be if we did nothing.

It is unreasonable to expect the President to fix it at all.

It is doubly unreasonable for any President to make the attempt.

It is triply unreasonable for Dear Leader to unleash an orgy of crony-controlled pork-barrel spending, fatuously calling it stimulus, in an attempt to fix it.

There is no joke in this. Dear Leader is doing great harm to the United States, and greater harm to the economy of the United States.

What do you mean by "boy"?

Amazing on how the experts are always "surprised by more then/less then unexpected numbers" isnt it?

I mean, how do these idiots call themselves experts, when they are always surprised by the results?

Expert to another expert: "Look Larry, we were wrong again. What a surprise!"

:doh

It's an expression. You've never heard it? or, is this going to be yet another lame assed assumption of vague racism?

As if I need to ask.

What is interesting is the experts that I saw on the Lehrer news hour in January through about March almost all predicted rising unemployment till close to the end of the year, possibly into next. I suspect this is cherry picking experts to make the story.

The reason the rise was unexpected was because it's been falling for four straight weeks. I don't know why people are guffawing and backslapping like it was so stupid to predict it would fall again.

Someone, quick, explain to me why we have minimum wage laws when we are trying to end unemployment.

Who's joking? This is like confusing a funeral procession with a circus parade.

Because some people wanna have their cake and eat it, too.

In other words: pandering politicians.

You got it! All the legislation being introduced by the Dems right now has no other purpose but to win votes. None of it will have any positive effect on the country. They know it and they don't care, as long as they add to their voting base.

The "Bush recession" started before GWB was elected -- and yet, it was pinned on him.

Good for the goose, but not good for The Obama?

No need to assume anything. Your post and your attitude speak volumes to your intent.

I never said assume. I said, "half assed accusation", and you certainly didn't let me down.

Why....because you don't like your dishonesty and underhanded racism pointed out?

Oh, so i am being called a racist, afterall? Thank you for clearing that up. And, no, I don't give a **** if someone calls me a racist. I've come to expect it from you people, as the basis for any argument defedning the CIC. It means nothing to me anymore. There was a time when it was important to me, but folks like you have killed any concern I might have ever had.
