Senate Backs Apology for Slavery

Move Past It? We should never forget the horrid things that we have done in the past! When we start to forget History? We start to make the same mistakes again. Never Forget!

There is a marked difference between moving past something and forgeting about it. We SHOULD never forget slavery. It is a terrible stain on our nation's past, but we SHOULD also move past it. An appology now accomplishes nothing, helps no one, and gets us no where. It is time that we moved forward addressing today's problems and use history to guide us, not stumble all over a history we cannot change and fall into the future weighed down by the past.

It is far easier for them to make resolutions about slavery, and the demonstrations in Iran, then to have to work on the economy, which neither side has any clue how to fix.

It looks like the only ones not apologizing are the Africans and Arabs who stole, traded, or bought them, and then sold them.

Maybe instead of worrying about what has happened to our ancestors, we need to worry about what we are doing today. Yes Slavery does not exist anymore in the US, but discrimination and racism is still very alive. We, as American People, should realize that all men AND women are created equal. Equality does not mean we all are the same in everything, but that everyone has an ability that is in no way greater or inferior to another.

Realize that everyone has racist or prejudice tendencies and to stop those tendencies through an inner transformation. Change yourself before you try to change the world. If everyone in America could embrace this idea, then we could be place that honestly accepted everyone for who they are.

But no mention of slaughtering every American we saw in our gunsites known as the "Settling of the American West"?
It is what it is and it was what it was and thankfully it is over(?)

My family had nothing to do with the slavery that occurred, why do I have to apologize?

Slavery once made the world's economy go round. Ugly truth.

I get tired of America acting like it is the only country in the world that once had slaves, or that we are the only people that ever ran native people off their land.

It's the way the world once was. Again, it's the sad, ugly truth.

We've actually gotten past it. Not so in Africa and the Middle East, which ironically, is where it all began.

Because Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton backed up the the US Senate says you have to!

The Senate Resolution is non binding and " It Cannot Be Used in Reparations Cases"

I know that this is a feel good action on the part of the Club of One Hundred but apologizing for slavery is about time.

Does anyone think that the Senate should not have appologized ? If so why.

Does anyone think that the Senate should have made this a binding resolution AND made it with reparartions ?

If so why.

Does any think that now that the Senate has passed this resolution Blacks shoudl shut up already, get back to work, and don't cause any more problems ?

Does anyone think that all of the 99 serving Senators should be thrown out of office for passing this resolution ?

What? They actually apologized for this?

Good grief.

Isn't the fact that we ended slavery over 100 years ago, an apology in and of itself?

Now a generation, which had nothing to do with slavery, is apologizing for something they had no hand in.

This couldnt be more stupid, pointless, or completely asinine.

Next up for Congress: Apologizing to England for the Revolutionary War.

I think Africa should apologize for slavery...they're the ones who sold us the slaves, after all.

Maybe they will.....as soon as they stop doing it.

I don't mean to insult those who fail to think and believe it is some how useful to claim you're sorry for something you didn't do or have anything to do with what ever. But that's just plain stupid.
As for insulting the Granola Liberals B. the -B- Boxer, DiFi the ugly, and Piglousy. I was being nice to them.

I for one would support giving blacks free tickets back to Africa if they promise to stay there.

That was already done if fact that is how the "country" of Liberia got "founded". And the former slaves were so grateful for the "free tickets " that they named the new capital of the new country Monrovia and the one and only and famous James THE President Monroe. They even modeld their flag silimar to the US Flag.

You missed the whole thing. You do not need to aplogize for anything it was already done for you by the Senate. Why don't you write to your Senators and ask that your name be removed from the Hallmark Apology card??

I dare you !!! lol

Ok, but Africa is a continent and continents do not have governments so which "countries" of African are you designating to be the Apologizer Rabbits ?

Well, I think a lot of people are saying we have nothing to apologize for, as we don't own slaves. It is true that no one alive today owned slaves, but the legacy of slavery and racism in this country can be seen very clearly today in many poor black neighborhoods.
Poor black neighborhoods which poor blacks decided to make.

If Obama can do it, everyone can. Its time to stop making excuses for a race of people due to something that happened 150 f'n years ago.

If Coach Carter can get a group of inner city school basketball players to improve their grades and get into college while also excelling at basketball, then there is no excuse as to why kids in inner city schools aren't doing better, except for the fact that they are missing a little parental involvement, which is what Coach Carter was a substitute for.

Yeah, we want a refund. j/k
