TOKYO — North Korea may fire a long-range ballistic missile toward Hawaii in early July, a Japanese newspaper said Thursday, amid escalating tensions between the communist country and the United States over Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programs.

The missile, believed to be a long-range Taepodong-2 with a range of up to 4,000 miles, would be launched from North Korea's Dongchang-ni site on the northwestern coast, said the Yomiuri daily, Japan's top-selling newspaper.

The report cited an analysis by the Japanese Defense Ministry and intelligence gathered by U.S. reconnaissance satellites.

The Yomiuri said the Taepodong-2 could fly over Japan and toward Hawaii, but that it would not be able to hit the main islands of Hawaii, which lie about 4,500 miles from the Korean peninsula.

The missile launch could come between July 4 and 8, the paper said. It noted that North Korea had fired its first Taepodong-2 missile on July 4, 2006. Also, July 8 is the anniversary of the 1994 death of North Korea founder Kim Il Sung.

I don't think cutting ABM capabilities will be a winner anymore.
Dunno how the japanese would know its trajectory... but you never know.

TOKYO — North Korea warned Wednesday of a "thousand-fold" military retaliation against the U.S. and its allies if provoked, the latest threat in a drumbeat of rhetoric in defense of its rogue nuclear program.

The age of bomb shelters may be coming again.

Re: North Korea may fire missile toward Hawaii in early July

Although North Korea is an serious problem, I suspect that firing a rocket "towards Hawaii" really means "somewhere in the pacific ocean".

I for one don't see it happening. But being in Hawaii maybe I should start making "I survived the bomb 09'" T-shirts.

To bad we don't have a president that anyone is afraid to mess with.

5 years from now.

"Yesterday, North Korea fired a rocket towards Hawaii. It landed 100 feet off its shore.

In other news, North Korea no longer exists, but is a smoldering crater in the ground. Not surprisingly, no one kills, save for the little asian kid from MadTV whose only funny bit was dressing up as Kim Jong Ill."

Re: North Korea may fire missile toward Hawaii in early July

What I find really unsettling is that Jung seems to be going out of his way to demonstrate that he doesn't know how this whole MAD thing works.

Re: North Korea may fire missile toward Hawaii in early July

Kim Jong Ill is testing the waters to see how far he can go and what he can get away with.

Re: North Korea may fire missile toward Hawaii in early July

I realize that Kim is ill but you have to sak why someone close to this nut does not shoot him in the head, and in doing so save the lives of millions from the retaliation strike that would come from any nuclear attack. How ever they may be relying on Obama's unwillingness to defend our allies or possibly even the U.S.
I personally would put the laser equipped 747 anti missile system along with the Navy's anti missile systems on alert and in the area and shoot down all future tests that leave N. Korean air space. It would send a message to everyone that provocative acts will not be tolerated. The problem is Obama is going to do the usual and gut the military again as has been the liberal way for too long.

The Obama mantra so far has been there is strength in weakness, which invites problems that see us as weak members of the Neville Chamberlain school politics.
Ronald Reagan would stand up to dictators like Kim Jong Il, Hugo Chavez, and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and not put up with any nonsense and everyone knew he meant what he said with no wishie washy, marshmallow milk toast BS

the obama militry policy works really really good in Utopiastan:roll:

I think I heard the other day that the odds of us intercepting a missle coming toward our shores is 90%. In the words of Bart Simpson, "that ain't not bad."

U.S. Military Tracking North Korean Ship

The U.S. military is tracking a flagged North Korean ship suspected of proliferating weapons material in violation of a U.N. Security Council resolution passed last Friday, FOX News has learned.

The ship, Kang Nam, left a port in North Korea Wednesday and appears to be heading toward Singapore, according to a senior U.S. military source. The vessel, which the military has been tracking since its departure, could be carrying weaponry, missile parts or nuclear materials.

"It is believed to be 'of interest,'" a senior U.S. official told FOX News.

This is the first suspected "proliferator" that the U.S. and its allies have tracked from North Korea since the United Nations authorized the world's navies to enforce compliance with a variety of U.N. sanctions aimed at punishing North Korea for its recent nuclear test.

The ship is currently along the coast of China and being monitored around-the-clock by air.

The apparent violation raises the question of how the United States and its allies will respond, particularly since the U.N. resolution does not have a lot of teeth to it.

The resolution would not allow the United States to board the ship forcibly. Rather, U.S. military would have to request permission to board -- a request North Korea is unlikely to grant.

North Korea has said that any attempt to board its ships would be viewed as an act of war and promised "100- or 1,000-fold" retaliation if provoked.

Can't, Won't, Maybe ..typical UN nonsense.

Gates Orders Measures to Protect Hawaii From North Korea Missile

June 18 (Bloomberg) -- Defense Secretary Robert Gates said he has ordered the U.S. military to take defensive measures should North Korea attempt to fire a ballistic missile toward Hawaii.

“I think we are in a good position, should it become necessary, to protect American territory,” Gates told reporters at the Pentagon today.

Democrats lost the ABM argument.
Thanks Kim.

This ones 10 hours older then that one.

In reguard to the Kang Kam (NK Weapons Ship) this ship has been on our watch list for many years why for the life of me we haven't boarded yet I don't understand.

We know were it's been and what it has transported in the past. If the UN really is going to use it's resolution correctly it's time for the China to stop this ship. But here lys the problem if they stop the ship and find that their is stuff that they help them(NK) build on this ship then what shall the rest of the World say and do.

I say if we know that it's heading to Singapore the monument it makes the corse change to leave Chinese Water and hit the 12 mile mark we stop the ship and check the cargo, and if little KIm Ill wants to bitch then fine.

If China starts crying then I would tell them in private look here china we have photo and video showing that some of the stuff on this said vessel came from China so either shut up or we go to the International Press.

Or we can just send the ship to Davy Jone's Locker which would be just as good.

Re: North Korea may fire missile toward Hawaii in early July

Since back when the false reports of how effective the Patriot missiles were in the first Gulf War they have been upgraded and now actually work. The THAAD Theatre High-Altitude Area Defence Missile System of the ARMY has come on line and the NAVY has Aegis Destroyers, and Cruisers that have anti Missile Systems that can take out incoming missiles and there are others as well as the laser device that was just tested and works with a beam many times hotter than the Sun.
The message shooting one down would let the rest of the world know not to mess with the U.S.
An All out war with N. Korea if they used nukes first would last almost 15 minutes.
Sadly the fall out would last years environmentally and politically.

Re: North Korea may fire missile toward Hawaii in early July

North Korea is just showing the world that the United States has a leader with no fortitude whatsoever.

In other words, Obama's ain't dropped yet.

All the system you mention have at best a 50% effectiveness. The THAAD is only for short range Cruise and Skud type missile and the last actual live fire test they only brought down 6 or the 16 fired at them.

The Aegis is great for if you have fired say a Exocet/Harpoon/KH-15 but when it come's to shooting down a Land Fired ICBM/MCBM forget it they move to fast for the Aegis Fire Control to get a hot lead and launch.

Love how they're doing this on July 4th.

I also love that they're doing this now, and not when Bush was in office.

:stop::eek:t Lets try to keep this on the discussion at hand.

I was just thinking that if they find out that this ship is carrying nukes, our Navy using an attack sub could sink it without NK knowing it was us and the threat would be gone,,And then YOU had to go and mention the name Obama.

Wtf is a thousand fold military response and why should we be afraid?

They don't even know if they could hit Hawaii. We know for a fact we can hit North Korea.
