Aps, it was at least partly explained in the article linked.

CREW received a letter from the Secret Service saying it was unable to provide the records due to pending litigation in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia that CREW already filed.

The White House Guest List is just that a list of folks who come and go to the West Wing it really doesn't have anything to do with National Security the NSA/NSC/CIA/FBI/DoD folks all come thru another entrance to the White House.

The OP is about the fact that the Guest List hasn't been released and that the Secret Service declared it a Security Risk which it isn't trust me my name is on that list and I'm far from any Security Risk :rofl;)

But the Left is giving their Messiah credit for everything, especially for things he didn't do. He's saved the budget...we'll forget that pesky one-year two trillion dollar deficit. So I'm sure their giving him credit for curing cancer already.

This is a well know fact it's the door in the Treasury building that leads tot he tunnel that connects the West Wing to the Treasury . This how all national Security folks enter and leave the west Wing has been since LBJ.

And they are not on the guest list? Because it doesn't say that in the article. My understanding is that it is complete listing of all visitors and people with business in the west wing durning the day. So, what they're looking for is the names that aren't in the daily briefing. I'm saying, I understand why all those names can't be released without review.

And I'm saying that this story, IMO, in no way discounts the efforts toward more transparency. In fact, if you read the story, they're still looking into this--making it even more a non-story.

Executive privilege is something that we don't like or support when it's not a Prez we support in office. But people who understand the legal term, privilege, understand the need for confident communication in order to effectively do business.

On specific issues, specific visitors -- Congress can push the issue and get the info. But anyone who thinks we would be better served by having all privileged and confidential meetings in the West Wing exposed is, IMO, not very realistic.

Back when nobody paid attention to who visited the White House, it didn't matter if the record was public.
Imagine this plausible scenario....the President is considering covert military action. He wants to talk to experts on the region. If these experts are on record visiting the White House, it will be obvious what the President is up to, because there is no other reason they would be there. Sure, he can meet them somewhere else, but why should he? I'm just saying, there are good reasons not to make the list of White House visitors public.

I don't understand why this is so difficult. The amount of documents that have become available since Obama took office and the partisan hacks want to glom onto this nothing story.

The "Emperor" has achieved more than a few notable accomplishments in the short time he has been in office. Despite the intransigent resistance of bigots and right wing extremists, America is recovering its reputation in the world thanks to The Messiah.

Obama has only been in office about 5 months, so it's a bit early for judging how transparent his term will be. As for Hope and Change, that's a matter of perspective. Being an Obama supporter I didn't vote for him for Hope, but I did vote for Change, and I got exactly what I expected.

Who is putting the spin on this situation is a matter of opinion I suppose. I see the spin coming mostly from his critics who usually jump at the chance to critize everything he does anyway, so the outrage over this issue is no surprise because it's so predictable. Transparency will be more evident at the end of his term than at the start, and even then, I won't view it through the eyes of his critics, or the because of the views of special interest groups.

The issue of complaining about a guest list seems a bit trivial to me.
