Letterman- Apology take 2

It was a crude joke that didn't go over well. I've heard worse. I remember years ago Howard Stern did this bit about a school bus crash where he had sound effects and all as he mimicked the real events of an actual school bus crash. That was worse.

This was crude, the guy tucked tail between his legs and said sorry, and now it's over. What the hell? I can not understand discussing it for days on end.

It was a tasteless and inappropriate joke, but some people are taking this a tad too far. Some of the outrage I've seen both on the boards and on tv has been a bit ridiculous. People are now petitioning and protesting CBS to have Letterman fired over this silly joke. I'm no fan of Letterman, but come on! During the Presidential campaign people made a ton of jokes directed at Palin and her daughter. Where was the outrage then? Letterman apologized. It's time to get over it.

First of all I did say inmy opening dialogue that Letterman should have made a better apology last. His joke was not about the 14 year old as you guys like to lie about it and attempt to spin it into something worse.

I can assign all the knicknames I want and if you cannot apprepiate a good knckname maybe that says more about youthan me.

If you don't like what I post don't read my posts and don't make personal insults, and just go away!! Personal insults are against the rules and we want o keep this forum civil.

Blah. I made a general comment about the appalling level of ignorance that a senseless nickname shows about the person mindlessly flinging it. If you identify with the object of that observation, perhaps you should make an adjustment to your behavior rather than demand an alteration to the observation.

I am surprised that jallman is using the "statutory rape" interpretation. Letterman's joke was crude, but there is just no way in hell he would imply statutory rape in his joke. That's not Letterman. His apology sounded sincere (and not forced).

And I have repeatedly, now, stated that his apology is acceptable. I even stated when all this broke that I saw no need to call for his job or head. A sincere apology would suffice.

What is dysfunctional about Palin’s family?

She has a daughter who became pregnant at 17 and now has a baby at 18. What’s dysfunctional about that?

That she didn’t secretly get an abortion? Because Todd Palin didn’t beat her? Because Sarah Palin didn’t throw her out of the family? Because they didn’t force their daughter and the father into a shotgun wedding? That her daughter is one of 50 million women if not more in this country who first became pregnant as an unmarried teenager?

There are many legitimate criticisms of Gov. Palin. But having a dysfunctional family isn’t one of them. Her’s is a particularly functional family. The one thing that impressed me about Palin is her refusal to ever state anything but love of and loyalty to her daughter. No attempts to get her to criticize her daughter were successful.

sazerac is correct. Those calling themselves liberals used to understand the important concept of tolerance. Now many are sneering out every manner of bigotry and prejudice with despicable levels of moral judgmentalism.

I am an election judge for the local Democratic Party. I am not someone who parrots slogans. This shift of some falsely self described liberals from being highly tolerant to more judgmental than the most radical rightwing Christians is pitiful. They are slinging out moral condemnations, religious bigotries, racial bigotries and gender bigotries beyond anything I read Republicans doing. This forum reeks of it from those falsely portraying themselves as liberal Democrats when they are screaming like rightwing religious hate fanatics.

What I see happening is many of the Democratic talking heads going more moralistic rightwing than Pat Robertson. It would appear a result of us winning the election is a rush of new style bigots and sexists over to our side.

GET THE F…K OUT OF MY DEMOCRATIC PARTY!

For the record. Anyone who became pregnant or got a woman pregnant outside of marriage or as a teenager is completely welcome in MY Democratic party. Anyone who has a problem with you can have their ass thrown out the door. (That’s one of the things election judges can do.)

Criticism of the Igloo Girl for her dysfunctional family is out of line. What is also out of line is your talking big about being an "election judge". I do not believe you that you are an election judge of any party. Even if by some magic you're an election judge - who cares!! That does not make your opinion more mportant or valid than anyone elses.

Oh you are so "powerful" that you can " have their ass thrown out the door. (That’s one of the things election judges can do" . WOW Ain't you so 'potent'. If that was rue and you can wield that power that would be an abuse of power. Speaking of abuse of power or position isn't that what the Igloo Girl did in troopergate!! Missuse, abuse, overuse of power by anyone is dispicable. The bottom line here is that no one cares if you are an election judge or a doorman in a whorehouse we all have the right to an opinion and our opinion stands on what we say and how we say it and not on who we think we are or who we want others to think we are.

Jallman who likes to throw out personal insults knows well that Letterman was referring to the 18 year old. Iam not defending that but let's try some honesty!!

Where, pray tell, have you been personally insulted?

Criticism of the Igloo Girl

I wanted to care what this post related to us, but I couldn't bring myself after I saw the ignorant moniker thrown out meant, not to promote productive discussion and intelligent dialog, but only to inflame and prove the point I made earlier about who is really demeaned by that practice.

Letterman got what he deserved. This probably the end of it though it will pop up in commentary for a long time to come. Especially if Palin runs and becomes President.

That said..whats the one notable difference between this and the Imus thing?
Answer honestly and that is the only reason Letterman was not fired.

I find that reality worse then this.

Where was Palin's OUTRAGE in SEPT 2008 ?

Too hot for YouTube! NBC's Palin 'incest' video yanked
Too hot for YouTube! NBC's Palin 'incest' video yanked

Back in Sept 2008 SNL made a "joke" ifyou can call it that on their website " video of a "Saturday Night Live" skit featuring characters portraying New York Times reporters investigating whether Todd Palin was having sex with the couple's own daughters ". The video was yanked.

Palin appeared on SNL after that incident because she wanted the exposure.
If Palin, or Igloo Girl as I like to call her was so outraged about the Letterman flap why was she not even more outraged about that video?

I believe that the Igloo Girl is a hypocrit because she did not tell NBC to go and shove thier SNL up thier asses.

She now plays the Letterman thing up to get sympathy and exposure for 2012She is a media whore and a hypocrit.

Again Igloo's hypocricy does not make what Letterman said or what NBC did right but being a hypocrit is not right either.

YouTube has pulled from its website a video of a "Saturday Night Live" skit featuring characters portraying New York Times reporters investigating whether Todd Palin was having sex with the couple's own daughters after NBC expressed a claim of copyright, even though a wide range of other "SNL" clips remain available.

But trying to prevent the clip from being replayed wasn't protecting the program and network today from the wrath of viewers, bloggers and radio talk show hosts who believe the "joke" simply went too far.

As WND was first to report, "SNL" characters exchanged the following lines:

"What about the husband? You know he's doing those daughters. I mean, come on. It's Alaska," from one person playing a Times reporter.

If Palin, or Igloo Girl as I like to call her

Yes, I think you've proven your lack of commitment to intelligent discussion this way on numerous occasions.

It does have a very distinct culture.

Alaska has many cultures. There are Native Americans at r 15.6% , Indians—primarily Athabaskan (14,520) and Tlingit-Haida (14,825)—living in southeastern Alaska (Alaska Panhandle) numbered around 29,345 in 2000. There are also small numbers of Tsimshian living in this area. Eskimos (45,919) and Aleuts (11,941), the other native peoples, live mostly in scattered villages to the north and northwest. . Among those of Asian origin in 2000 were 12,712 Filipinos, 1,414 Japanese, and 4,573 Koreans; in the same year, the total Asian population was 25,116 and Pacific Islanders numbered 3,309. In 2000, of Alaska's total population, about 25,852 individuals were of Hispanic or Latino origin, with 13,334 of those claiming Mexican ancestry (up from 6,888 in 1990). Foreign-born persons numbered 37,170, or 5.9% of the population (up from 4.4% in 1990).

Since The Russian empire once extended to Alaska there are some Russian genes mixed in along with various minorities who were sent to Alaska by the Imperialist bastards e.g. Russians among those minorities were Ukrainians, Belorusses, Georgians, and an occasional Chechenyan.

As I told you several times before you don't have to read my posts if you don't like the knicknames that I so generously bestow upon those who earn them. I do not question your intelligence only your opinions and then only if I deem them worthy of comment.

If you don't like what I write go play in another sandbox.

That's all very true. Further examination of those raw numbers will also show that these different cultures have become compartmentalized out in the Bush and North Slope. Traveling from Nome to Kotzebue, you see a distinct change in culture from one of Alaska Native dominance to one of almost exclusive Korean presence. Why that is, I can't even begin to guess.

In the larger cities of Juneau, Anchorage, and Fairbanks, you get an almost metropolitan feel for such small cities compared to other parts of the country. When you arrive in places like Wasilla and Palmer in the Matsu Valley and Kenai and Soldotna out on the Kenai Peninsula, you get a whole other distinct feeling of modern suburbia. Then you have your island communities like Kodiak, King Salmon, and Ketchikan where things become relatively American "folsky" in culture. It's funny to play the "guess where the Alaskan" lives when you are sitting in a bar by analyzing their dress, speech, and general demeanor.

I will say this, too. Alaskans are some of the most well traveled people I have ever met. Travel is important to them because if they didn't, they would just be isolated from the world.

He has already "lived it down" and probably forgotten it. He has done all he can do, but it won't be enough, will it?

Was Don Imus apology enough or did he get fired?

People should read Michener's novel 'ALASKA'. As always James Michener was the ultimate researcher and his novels had an extremely good historical basis. The novel 'Alaska' starts with a Ukrainian Cossack "working" for the Russian Imperial court and he and his entrourage travel to Alaska ......

I landed twice in ALASKA to refuel. Once on the way to Vietnam and once on the way back.

I always had a thing for Alaska and wanted to go back to visit an finally convinced my wife to take one of those cruises up the coast and we were to go this year. I cancelled the cruise after that piece of Igloo #$%^&*(*&^ ruined John McCain's chance to be the first Vietnam Vet as president.

Palin ruined all the my great visions of Alaska that I had.

It's a shame you would relinquish your interest in an entire people over your unfounded hatred of one person.

McCain bears as much responsibility since he did tap Palin. She was his pick.

Palin is just as much of a Igloo girl as Letterman is a Pervert.

But thank goodness the troops are protecting Dave's second ammendment rights to say what ever he wants on public television..:2funny:

Palin is a dolt...she needs to shut her whiney trap and go away and read some books on politics and the constitution and quit making a fool of herself.

She should have just said "apology accepted" and shut her mouth..no such luck.

Yes, because she somehow has less right to respond to the event, it having been personal to her, than you do to yap your jaws about it for days.

Look Jallman I can disagree with you but I do not question your intellect as I will not with anyone else on this forum. I expect no less from you.

I as you also do have a certain style of writing and certain prejudices. I like to given knicknames to people who in my opinion earn them. The Shrub because he is not and never will be a true Bush. Monica's Boyfriend because .......... he is. The Drug Addict because because he is a hpocrit and his Limbaugness deserves it. Shaun VANITY becasue he is vane, and stupid and vane. Cockroach Coulter because she insulted Veterans once. You do not have to like or agree with my kncknames for or my assessment of celebrities.

You may think the world of any of these schmoes that I have no respect for. Fine defend them with your best !!! If you disagree with what I say about your favorites bring on what you think are facts but don't try to demean my intelligence because I don't have a high opinion of one of your favorite people.

I don't hate Palin. I just have no respect for her. It's just like Clinton ( Bill ) who I do not hate but lost all respect for him because of his behavior problem.
Throw in Edwards also. Or rather throw him out !!!

I do not mask my direspect for a politician based upon idelogy or party afilliation or issue concurrence. There are Palins and Clintons in both parties.

I find that criticism of Palin has been much more harsh and mean spirited than any criticisms I have ever seen in the past.

She also holds a special place for me because I "know" her. We sat together several times at Chamber meetings in Alaska and I find her charming, intelligent, fair minded and graceful.

So many depictions of her in the media were so far from true that I could scarcely believe it when I saw them. For one, the depiction of her being some prolife nazi. Just not true. Abstinence only education supporter. Just not true. Others, but I don't feel the need to continue when even this will fall on deaf ears.

Shes' an intelligent, powerful, popular, successful Woman whose a Republican Governor.
They hate her for much the same reason they hate Michael Steele.

For what she and he represent.

They represent woman and blacks who they cannot use.
Thomas Sowell put it best and it can be applied to women as well-

"The left like to put blacks on mantles and show them off. They don't like the black who steps off that mantle and thinks for himself."
(not an exact quote but close enough)

Good lord Jall...Now you "know" Palin and have sat with her? How many times?

Get a grip...Palin makes herself a political target by not crawling away and educating herself as she should. She is a public dolt and will be publicly critisized for it.

Are you claiming that Palin has been under more scrutiny that Bill, Hillary and Cheleasa?

As long as Palin keeps the spotlight on herself by carrying on these self engrandizing whiney rants...she will be a target and deservingly so.

Why is it that the only change that the Right really wants is that nobody can critisize them and their princess?

Republicans lived on smear campaigns for 16 years. Remember?

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with this. Michael Steele is a lame ass douche. If any political figure was an affirmative action pick, it was that guy. He is our Howard Dean.
