Letterman- Apology take 2

And what's the difference in calling somebody a wetback or a redneck?

It is an insult directed to a member of a different culture. Nobody hates anybody because they have a different skin color. They hate them because they are a different culture.

Racism is just culturism.

She is correct. The OP is a racist slur.

Palin is married to a man of Alaskan Native American ancestry so therefore also are her children. Igloo girl is a clearly a racial slur and is for no other purpose. If it acceptable to call Palin “igloo girl” then it equally acceptable to call Obama “plantation boy.” Both are founded in racial prejudice and the joy some find in racial slurs.

So many trying to laugh at StandUp for complaining demonstrates just how popular racial slurs remain for many people including on this forum.

On brother. :2sick1:

Too late.

Letterman is a classic leftist elite. He's above apologizing like a man the first time. Like I said when this came out, he's a dirty old man. And Palin was right, he's pathetic.

Why do people who obviously don't watch the show comment on Letterman?

If you don't know what you're talking about, don't watch the show, or don't really know anything about David Letterman, his humor and/or his shot, don't open your mouth because you just sound like an idiot.

Yes, if Palin is finally accepting his apology and moving on, then she is right. Anything other than that is continuing to be an opportunist.

Accepting apologies doesn't create headlines, so don't expect it from either side, at any time, on anything.

Awesome.

Can we lock it up and go home? Or do we need to analyze the apology and the acceptance??

Let me guess, neither are good enough for the opposite side.:doh

I just responded to a post that you responded to zyphlin on. You NEED to read it.

You're right.

A token article is hardly a "headline". There's no controversy in civility.

What amazes me most is how Palin is willing to use her dysfunctional family as a political "tool" to gain more air time on national tv. It is funny that this "scandal" suddenly popped just about the time where Palin was a non story in the mainstream media. Now all of a sudden she is all over the freaking place it seems, spewing her airhead comments about everything and clearly showing a total lack of knowledge about almost everything.

I'm amazed that you have such a rabid hatred for all things Palin. Or is that all things Republican? Or all things American?

A lot of times, we just can't tell.

Wrong. David Letterman used her family as a political tool and to get some laughs. Did she start this? No.

Maybe people will think twice before attacking her family again. Half the country now considers Letterman to be a big asshole. Good work, Dave.

This self rightous hysteria makes me nauseous. In a few months people will look back at this and think "well that was a big fuss out of nothing much"

Wait wait wait wait....

I can understand blaming the Palin's a bit for keeping this prolonged and in the news cycle, essentially airing their distaste for it in such a public way that for a week anyone that may've not heard about it the first day DEFINITELY heard about it by the end of teh week...

But it seems your ONLY blaming the victem here while mostly giving Letterman a pass. Yes, the Palin's may've handled it poorly, but they would not have been in the position to handle it poorly if Letterman didn't try to pull their daughter into a pregnancy/sex joke. The blame for this goes to Letterman, with part of the blame for the length of it going to the way Palin's handled it. Your one sided nature of your lecture seemed odd.

And no one cares about A-roid. He probably was to busy doing another semi-nude magazine spread and jabbing needles in his ass to notice.

I'm not giving Letterman a pass. It was a poor joke, it was over the line, and he apologized. He's definitely to blame for starting the whole thing, but I put far more blame on the Palins for escalating it to the stratosphere. It'd be one thing to just respond to a question from a reporter and say that it was crude and tasteless and that he should apologize or whatever, but to go around doing talk shows about it where you basically accuse the guy of being a child molester is taking it to a whole new dimension.

And I was joking about A-Rod. :)

Some came to that conclusion almost immediately...

Are you for real?

:rofl

Money talks - that's the ONLY reason this old, bitter, partisan hack comedian apologized - one of his big sponsors withdrew from the show, with more threatening to do so.

Well said.

She would have come off so much better by criticizing the joke she knew Dave was making and going to the extreme.

You mean the joke about the 14 year old daughter being sexually abused by a middle aged pro athlete?

What amazes me most is how Palin is willing to use her dysfunctional family as a political "tool" to gain more air time on national tv.

What is dysfunctional about Palin’s family?

She has a daughter who became pregnant at 17 and now has a baby at 18. What’s dysfunctional about that?

That she didn’t secretly get an abortion? Because Todd Palin didn’t beat her? Because Sarah Palin didn’t throw her out of the family? Because they didn’t force their daughter and the father into a shotgun wedding? That her daughter is one of 50 million women if not more in this country who first became pregnant as an unmarried teenager?

There are many legitimate criticisms of Gov. Palin. But having a dysfunctional family isn’t one of them. Her’s is a particularly functional family. The one thing that impressed me about Palin is her refusal to ever state anything but love of and loyalty to her daughter. No attempts to get her to criticize her daughter were successful.

sazerac is correct. Those calling themselves liberals used to understand the important concept of tolerance. Now many are sneering out every manner of bigotry and prejudice with despicable levels of moral judgmentalism.

I am an election judge for the local Democratic Party. I am not someone who parrots slogans. This shift of some falsely self described liberals from being highly tolerant to more judgmental than the most radical rightwing Christians is pitiful. They are slinging out moral condemnations, religious bigotries, racial bigotries and gender bigotries beyond anything I read Republicans doing. This forum reeks of it from those falsely portraying themselves as liberal Democrats when they are screaming like rightwing religious hate fanatics.

What I see happening is many of the Democratic talking heads going more moralistic rightwing than Pat Robertson. It would appear a result of us winning the election is a rush of new style bigots and sexists over to our side.

GET THE F…K OUT OF MY DEMOCRATIC PARTY!

For the record. Anyone who became pregnant or got a woman pregnant outside of marriage or as a teenager is completely welcome in MY Democratic party. Anyone who has a problem with you can have their ass thrown out the door. (That’s one of the things election judges can do.)

He should have given a sincere apology to start with. Making jokes about raping 14 year olds is what I would consider beyond "coarse".

And your calling her igloo girl only demeans any perception of your intelligence much more than it demeans the governor of alaska.

First of all I did say inmy opening dialogue that Letterman should have made a better apology last. His joke was not about the 14 year old as you guys like to lie about it and attempt to spin it into something worse.

I can assign all the knicknames I want and if you cannot apprepiate a good knckname maybe that says more about youthan me.

If you don't like what I post don't read my posts and don't make personal insults, and just go away!! Personal insults are against the rules and we want o keep this forum civil.

He wasn't referring to the 14 year old (and you know it). The joke was only funny referring to how easy Bristol is. Remember, she's the one that got knocked up by a dumbass redneck at 17.

Jallman who likes to throw out personal insults knows well that Letterman was referring to the 18 year old. Iam not defending that but let's try some honesty!!

No, I'm basing it on broadcast interviews with the dumbass redneck. You didn't see them, or did you not notice because he is so much like you?

Come on now let's not not make personal insults. Personal insults are acceptable when diected towards personalities and politicians but why grant what's his name any respect by insulting him ?

Maybe if we ignore those who make personal attacks they will play in another sandbox.

I am surprised that jallman is using the "statutory rape" interpretation. Letterman's joke was crude, but there is just no way in hell he would imply statutory rape in his joke. That's not Letterman. His apology sounded sincere (and not forced).
