Sixth-grader stabbed by classmate

Yeah, where are they? I don't know any.

When are people going to wake up and realise that we should outlaw all sharp thingies. It is obvoius by this anecdotal incident that sharpy objects are a menace to society!!!

No more pencils, pens, compasses, scalpals, glass tubes and flasks; or any other items used in schools.

Schools obviously caused this. If the children weren't at school then this wouldn't have happened.

Exacdamundo, it is obviously the fault of these objects not the misuse of them by the individuals.
Sorry, forgot to add forks and butter knives.

Who actually says that?

I'm not pushing for elementary, junior high, or highschool students having guns... or even guns in the classroom on this one...

But, have you seen the recent spat in arming our campuses arguments on this forum? Have you paid attention to what the liberals are saying about it?

"These kinds of things don't happen every day, etc..etc..etc." :doh

The best way to reduce violence in school is through home schooling. It's kind of like an abstinence policy.

I'm pretty sure that in my house, this would lead to an increase in school violence.

Your unfamiliarity with school violence statistics aren't my problem, dude. But hey, if you want it,

"The sky is falling! The sky is falling!"

Feel better now?

Considering I was stabbed in junior high... and given the number of people I know who have been shot, and or assaulted with deadly weapons.. just in my small little world... alone...

I doubt it.

There are about 80 million young people in this country. Occasionally one of them does something really, really stupid. Why is this even news?

In any case, the best way to reduce violence among children is not herd them together against their will into a part-time torture prison you call a "public school"! If all schools are privatized, specialization and self-selection will occur, and more kids will be getting more of what they want out of education and less of what they don't want, like bullying.

Anectdotal data is insufficient for drawing generalized conclusions.

Perhaps you were cowering in the bathroom during logic, right?

Ah perhaps personal experience doesn't count.. when it makes your guy's idea of utopia look bad. :(

Who is my guy?

I based my comments on this thread on data: School Crime Victimization

Not only are kids safer at school, but schools have gotten consistently safer since 1992.
