MIAMI (AP) — A teenager faces charges in a gruesome string of cat mutilations and killings that have horrified his neighbors and shaken animal lovers in two South Florida communities.

Tyler Hayes Weinman, 18, was charged Sunday with 19 counts each of animal cruelty and improperly disposing of an animal body and four counts of burglary related to the deaths.

In the past month, residents in the Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay neighborhoods have reported finding the bodies of more than two dozen cats. Police said some were likely killed by dogs. Some were missing fur — neighbors said some had been skinned — and appeared to have been cut with a sharp, straight instrument, police said.

"I hope it's not true," 77-year-old Robert Ehrman said about the teen, who lives across the street from her in Cutler Bay. He called his mother a "lovely person," but said he didn't know the teen well. "It's like a death in the family, I'm sure."

Weinman was taken into custody at a party and was being questioned at Miami-Dade police headquarters. Four of the confirmed cat killings were reported on the street where Weinman lived.

His attorney, David W. Macey, said in an e-mail that Weinman is innocent of the charges.

Future serial killer or not, a person's got to be seriously wrong upstairs to do something like this. :(
 
How much will he get?

I hope as much as possible, what he did is not forgiveable.
Just think about the families...

What about a castration?

Nearly every serial killer started like that, but not everyone who do such terrible slaughterings will become a serial killer.

It is good to see this danger but no reason for hysteria. Although you are in mood to reinstall corporal punishment if you hear things like that.

How many strokes would that mean in Singapur?
 
If that kid did that to one of my cats he would never get the chance to develop in to a functioning serial killer as I would brake every single bone in his body, kick every one of his teeth out and would repeat those steps again & again every time I got out of jail for doing it.



Cat-killers (and those who abuse Pets in general) deserve nothing less than the harshest of vigilante justice.
 
Jeffrey Dahmer mutilated animals as a child. Look where that led him. Ted Bundy killed his victims. Jeffrey Dahmer ate them. Ewwww.

They all drank milk, too. Does that mean that everyone that drinks milk will turn into a serial killer?

Saying that cat killers are inevitably going to become serial killers is delusional. Perhaps it's you that should be reading up.

I haven't seen ONE person in here claim that cat killers will become a serial killer. If I somehow missed this assertion, please enlighten me.

Your comprehension of the english language seems to be well below par. The actual statement referred to the cat killings as being a "possible predictor" rather than an inevitability in terms of later adult behavior.

This is incredibly disturbing.

Officially, nine cats have been violently killed, but neighbors said there are more. Some had their skulls crushed, others have been gutted, skinned or dismembered. . . .

Barbara Weisinger's cat, Cammy, was killed last week.

"They took her face," Weisinger said. "Her whole face was gone. Her eyes and her nose were gone."

Again, what is out with these ridiculous responses? I haven't seen anyone claim that killing cats or injuring cats WILL MAKE THAT PERSON INTO A SERIAL KILLER.

How many kids have killed other HUMANS by the time they are 18? I don't approve of torturing animals needlessly, but its a drop in the bucket compared to what humans will do to other humans.

Needless killing is needless killing... I don't care if it's animal or human. Both feel pain, so why the need to put it on a level of hiearchy?
 
In reading up on this issue, it appears that animal killers are usually exposed to domestic violence and that often they are taking out their aggressions on animals. I am guessing this kid is receiving physical abuse from one of his parents.
 
I remember when I was growing up there was a kid who lived in a neighborhood nearby who used to steal people's cats and then skin them alive and perform various tortures on them. He didn't grow up to be a serial killer, he just grew up to be a lazy asshole.

If you've ever seen the movie Gummo, the two main characters in that movie were kids who go around killing neighborhood cats only to sell them to the local butcher so that they could get money to buy milk shakes and glue to sniff.

I don't think that killing cats in this way is necessarily a sign of a person being a serial killer later on. It does tell me though that there are probably problems at home and/or school and this kid is using animals to take his aggressions out on. Adolescent boys doing horrible things to animals and insects certainly isn't anything new.
 
Easy fix for that. Tie him down, smear tuna fish all over his body, and let loose the cats. :mrgreen:
