Riots erupt in Tehran over 'stolen' election

Re: Mousavi Arrested Protest Mounts

I would hope that their storeis be neither pro nor anti-Israeli but the facts.

In a government where it is almost illegal to proclaim anything but pro-Israeli? Are you kidding me.

They have made it illegal to say that Israel was wrong in how it was founded.

How is that Free Speech?

Re: Reports: Turmoil grips Iran as reform candidate arrested

We have tried to be friendly and we have tried to work things out. Aminajackoff and his terrorist buddies are not interested in peace. They are interested in supporting terrorism and the destruction of Israel.

Aminajackoff, The Ayetolietbowl, and the mullah-whores have fixed an election. This is UNACCEPTABLE. The Ayetoiletbowl is a terrorist asshole, the mullahs are little more than a corrupt group of religious gangsters, and the government of Iran is a relic that needs to be smashed into a thousand pieces and then replaced with a modern government that suits the people of Iran.

So we should invade Saudi Arabia then :p

You can't just say that a nation is ruled by gangsters and that warrants invasion.

I do really wish that the Iranian regime was toppled, because this ellection shows that it is exactly the same as a dictatorship, it needs to be taken down one way or another.

But I suppose rebellion by the Iranians does allow them to pick the government that they want though. I think that will come eventually, even if actions by us could speed that up.

I'm not. We are not the world's policeman, and we should avoid these kinds of foreign entanglements at all costs. Should we support the efforts of the people of Iran to topple their government? Absolutely, but it is ultimately up to them to do so.

Like I said, if we invade Iran with the full force that is being used in Afganisan and Iraq, then it can possibly be a semi-quick suscess and we won't need a long foreign entanglement like in Iraq.

Just curious, do you think Iran's population has the political culture to support democracy? Because if that is the case, then we would only need to topple the Iranian government, (which will be easy enough) and the Iranians can then create their own government without much effort from us.

I just think it is greedy to say that in general, we can't sacrifice our soldiers and resources to help people around the world. I support foreign aid which means that I also will support intervention under good circumstances.

Re: Reports: Turmoil grips Iran as reform candidate arrested

As Americans, we should do no more than the support the right of Iranians to the government of their choice. The Islamic Republic was installed by the popular will of the Iranian people 30 years ago, and if it is to be toppled, it will be again by the popular will of the Iranian people.

America especially should not be seen meddling in Iran's internal politics. Iran is a sovereign nation and we should respect their right to work out their own political issues.

But do you think that the government has moved out from the will of the Iranian people?

Even after the revolution, the theocratic establishment has stood in the way of the popular will of the people. I get the feeling that most Iranians want all of their government to be ellected. Even if they support religious policies, they can legimatily push that forward by the democratic proscess.

Hell, anti gay marriage legislation is religious views, but those can legimately molded into our government. I imagine an idea Iranian government would have more of that, but with a good government framework.

Re: Mousavi Arrested Protest Mounts

Does anyone have a credible source about this arrest of Mousavi ? I just don't buy anything that Isaeli sources have to say about Iran.

I searched and found little in the way of sources that aren't blogs.

What have you found?

The young in Iran actually like the US a lot.

Re: Reports: Turmoil grips Iran as reform candidate arrested

The young in Iran actually like the US a lot.

I know. So... I am saying that maybe that means that Iranians now WANT a democratic government, when they may not be willing to actually rebell for it yet.

That may not be true, but if it is, then that is a time when there should be possible invasion.

With respect to the ruthlessness of the Iranian regime, The Sunday Times reported:

Iran's hardline leaders warned last night that they would crush dissent after opposition supporters protesting against their candidate’s defeat in disputed presidential elections clashed with riot police on the streets of Tehran...

Clashes continued late into the night and fires of rubbish burnt as thousands of militiamen armed with knives and truncheons swarmed through the city in motorcycle packs of about 20. Lorries laden with riot police roamed the streets.

Finally, the newspaper also revealed that a private poll had indicated that Mousavi would win 58% of the vote.

Yes, the ayetoiletbowl and his cronies indeed fixed the election. Therefore, international condemnation and extreme pressure until they give in and conduct a fair, non-fraudulent election.

No, we will deal with the Saudis by freeing ourselves from their oil. We can then drive their asses to poverty. They will then receive punishment, inflation adjusted since 1900, for their support of terrorism.

I agree that we need to topple Iran's government. We need to allow the Iranian people to choose a government that is fair to them. I would hope they would choose to make certain that their new government does not include mullahs, ayetoiletbowls, or Aminademonjihad.

Moreover, I think we could lend the Iranians a hand by neutralizing the Iranian Republican Guard. This will leave the current terrorist government defenseless against the people.

The people in Iran need to continue to riot and protest until the mullahs, the ayeitoiletbowl, and the rest of the terrorists are in fear for their lives.

For that to work there would need to be a military base supporting the civilian population. As it stands, the military supports aminajackoff and his whacko terrorist buddies.

EXTREME PRESSURE needs to be placed on Iran's governing terrorists. It's time for the Ayetolietbowl to be removed from power. It is time for the Mullahs to be removed from office and it is time for terrorist-boy Aminajackoff to be permanently committed to an insane asylum.

I would agree with you except for one thing. Am"a ****ing whack job's" opponent wasn't much better than he was, and in fact could be much worse.

We know things are bad in Iran, but I personally think the job came down to the devil you know, versus the devil you don't know.

I think his opponent was a wild card and the people liked. That could be a good thing for us or a very bad thing for us.

I think the Mullahs have Amawhackjob under control. They don't know about this other guy. This other guy was not against Iran having nukes. Who's to say this guy isn't the one to launch. Just saying.

Re: Mousavi Arrested Protest Mounts

It says in the article that it was reported by an unnamed source, so we are not going to be able to confirm or disprove whether or not he has been arrested at this point. We are just going to have to wait until some more information comes out.

Sounds to me like its time for the CIA to start "losing" some rifles, and grenades in Iran. Even if it doesnt topple the regime; a little revolution is a healthy thing from time to time.

Re: Mousavi Arrested Protest Mounts

How is that Free Speech?
The example you gave is not free speech indeed, but rather the banning of hate speech against the country in the borders of Israel.
They have made it illegal to say that Israel was wrong in how it was founded.
That's just lying now.
The law didn't even pass the first vote, how in hell is that equal to "They have made it illegal...".
You should check your facts before you spew this BS.

And yes, Ha'aretz has a leftish agenda.

Re: Mousavi Arrested Protest Mounts

I called work and ask if they had heard anything and like the rest of us only un-confirm blog reports nothing seems to be coming from usual Source in Syria/Jordan and Russia

If this has happen then I can see a major revolt happening. In my view this could be the one item that could see certain Army and Air Force units to take up arms against the Mullahs and Government.

The problem with armed revolutions is you always risk getting something worse. A better option would be for the CIA to 'conveniently' start losing satellite data uplinks, HD small camcorders, data storage devices and everything necessary for Iranians fed up with the government to broadcast how they feel to the entire country and beyond. Basically, break the Mullah's control over the media by going pirate. Essentially force Iran into mass murdering its youth or giving up power.

I think if my mate Perham posts again it will be factual and interesting, if he contacts me through other means I will report back.

Yeah... as much as I hate to admit it ... you have a good point.

Still ... Amandemonjihad needs to be gone. The other guy wanted to create stronger ties with the west.

If nothing else, this is a good start.

Mousaavi may be just another lunatic but if the mullahs are that scared of him ... maybe we can use him to our advantage.

A good plan.

Still ... the Iranian government will murder anybody caught transmitting data outside of the approval of the official terrorist news machine operated by the state.

Arms are needed to keep those brave enough to talk alive.

Perhaps.

But selecting a specific election belittles the constant corruption which has an effect on all our elections.

Which was what I was trying to point out.
You've successfully pointed out an irrelevancy.

Your next step will likely be to publicly espouse Truther Dogma and connect it to the riots in Tehran.

We await baited breath.

Iran reformists held after street clashes
Sunday, 14 June 2009
John Simpson reports from Tehran

Up to 100 members of major Iranian reformist groups have been arrested, accused of orchestrating violence after the disputed presidential election.

Backers of defeated reformist Mir Hossein Mousavi were rounded up overnight, reports said, including the brother of ex-President Khatami. Mr Mousavi's whereabouts are unknown but he is thought to remain free.

Details of the arrests remained sketchy, but reports said those detained were members of pro-reformist political parties which had backed Mr Mousavi during the election campaign. The state news agency, Irna, said those arrested were involved in orchestrating the protests in Tehran on Saturday.

The streets of the Iranian capital were reported to be calm on Sunday morning, but the BBC's Jon Leyne, in the city, says concrete barriers are being erected in the streets. Our correspondent says the expressions of support for Mr Ahmadinejad could be an attempt to "lock down" support for the president within Iran's divided political establishment. Mr Ahmadinejad is due to hold a news conference on Sunday before attending a victory rally.

The clerical regime is crushing popular dissent and is using the state-run media to trumpet the fairness of the election and warn Iranians to not oppose the results. I would imagine the Basij - young pro-regime males who attack with wooden clubs on motorcycle - are flooding the streets of Tehran.

I pray that DP's Perham is safe and will somehow be able to contact us.

Re: Reports: Turmoil grips Iran as reform candidate arrested

The Mullahs have become the new King George III.
Your point is valid, but I hasten to point out that very few Kings of England ever had the sort of sick power the Mullahs wield.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. The Iranians are a rather educated people, unlike for instance the North Koreans, so they are more fully aware that their lives would be other than they are.

Tashah Perham and I were good mates for a long time at PF( he got perma/banned after me) we both never found it strange that an atheist Jew and a Muslim can be friends, we respected each others belief in the freedom of individual to control there own destiny in life without fear.

He knows I cannot prey for him, but he knows I am with him.

Re: Reports: Turmoil grips Iran as reform candidate arrested

As I have been saying for years; the mullahs, the ayetoiletbowl, and Aminademonjihad, all need to be removed from power.

As long as Ali Komonkey****er is in control there will be no legitimate government in Iran.

I have to admit I have suspected that while the mullahs hold their position, democracy is just a sham and it looks like this proves it.

I have thought possibly the people there are like we were in the 60's. Brought up within rigid social conditions and finding some freedom through a better standard of living and education - they wanted change and free of restrictions and the corruption.

It is always hard seeing people's aspirations being so crushed.

Re: Reports: Turmoil grips Iran as reform candidate arrested

I don't believe this has been posted but if it has, please delete.

Here is a letter from Mousavi [tehranbureau.com]:

In the Name of God

Honorable people of Iran

The reported results of the 10th Iranians residential Election are appalling. The people who witnessed the mixture of votes in long lineups know who they have voted for and observe the wizardry of I.R.I.B (State run TV and Radio) and election officials. Now more than ever before they want to know how and by which officials this game plan has been designed. I object fully to the current procedures and obvious and abundant deviations from law on the day of election and alert people to not surrender to this dangerous plot. Dishonesty and corruption of officials as we have seen will only result in weakening the pillars of the Islamic Republic of Iran and empowers lies and dictatorships.

I am obliged, due to my religious and national duties, to expose this dangerous plot and to explain its devastating effects on the future of Iran. I am concerned that the continuation of the current situation will transform all key members of this regime into fabulists in confrontation with the nation and seriously jeopardize them in this world and the next.

I advise all officials to halt this agenda at once before it is too late, return to the rule of law and protect the nation’s vote and know that deviation from law renders them illegitimate. They are aware better than anyone else that this country has been through a grand Islamic revolution and the least message of this revolution is that our nation is alert and will oppose anyone who aims to seize the power against the law.

I use this chance to honor the emotions of the nation of Iran and remind them that Iran, this sacred being, belongs to them and not to the fraudulent. It is you who should stay alert. The traitors to the nation’s vote have no fear if this house of Persians burns in flames. We will continue with our green wave of rationality that is inspired by our religious learnings and our love for prophet Mohammad and will confront the rampage of lies that has appeared and marked the image of our nation. However we will not allow our movement to become blind one.

I thank every citizen who took part in spreading this green message by becoming a campaigner and all official and self organized campaigns, I insist that their presence is essential until we achieve results deserving of our country.

[ verse from in Quran: Why not trust in God, who has shown us our ways. We are patient in face of what disturbs us. Our resilience is in god. ]

Mir Hossein Mousavi
