WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama says the United States remains in a deep recession that will take considerable time to escape.
Obama met at the White House with his top administration officials on Monday to hear an update on his $787 billion spending plan. Obama says he is not satisfied with progress and told his Cabinet that administration leaders need to push ahead.

Obama promises more than 600,000 stimulus jobs

Okay... so we're in a deep hole and it's gonna take a while.

Didn't he just say:

BEVERLY HILLS, California (Reuters) – The U.S. economy is showing signs of stabilizing after suffering the worst economic crisis in decades, President Barack Obama said on Wednesday.
"When you look at the economy right now, I think it's safe to say we have stepped back from the brink, that there is some calm that didn't exist before," Obama said at a fund-raiser for the Democratic National Committee.
Obama took credit for a large share of the turnaround, saying his young administration had accomplished as much or more in its first four months as any administration since Franklin Delano Roosevelt's in the 1930s.

So a few weeks ago he was all "Look what I did for you all! LOVE ME!!!"

Now it's "Things are bleak, we aren't doing enough..."

Why do people trust this guy?

He's just echoing what the economists are saying; take it up with them.

So much for "the buck stops here" eh?

I figured that since this thread was taking a swipe at Obama I might as well use it to take a swipe at economists. :2wave:

One wonders what happened to the promise of the creation of 3.5 Million jobs.
As with almost every so called Democratic administration, creationism numbers decline with time, while taxation creationism rises.
600,000 jobs seems to be quite a drop on what was originally promised.
One must also recall (during those heady day on the campaign trail) that 3.5 Million NEW jobs were going to be created, whereas after the US electorate had had their say that particular statement became reduced to 'We shall save 3.5 Million jobs'.
I doubt that even by creating an overly bloated administration, President Obama will be able to save let alone create that number of jobs.

It would also appear that almost everyone of his nominees for various jobs have had to remove themselves from the scene after either Congress or the 'free' press has reminded them of various nefarious 'oversights' in their previous careers.

Dear Leader promises 600,000 stimulus jobs.

1.6 Million jobs have been lost since he took office.

He keeps bailin' and flailin' and losing ground with every step.

First Law of Holes: when you're in one, stop digging.

Memo to Dear Leader:
STOP DIGGING THAT HOLE

The obvious problem here is that FAR too many people think the government needs to do anything to 'fix' the econony -- as the economy will, inevitably, will do that itself.

He said he was going to create 3 to 5 million of those... three letter words JOBS.

He's looking to be a carbon copy of Gerhard Schroeder.
Schroeder promised to cut unemployment in half, but doubled it.

Gerhard Obama.

.

I'm going to get a job digging holes! This world has become so much better since we started ignoring Say's Law! Hoorah! Recession over!

Well, perhaps if you leave it alone and let it fix itself.

If you nationalize healthcare......there goes a ton of jobs. If you exact a federal sales tax and raise taxes overall......there goes a ton of jobs.

Obama's about to go on another spending spree (since the first one did nothing), which scares the bejeezus out of me.

Obama says alot of things that are retarded.

Wait till tomorrow, when he finally explains his speech in Germany on how cars in Boston are causing the ice caps to melt. :laughat: Obama, you can count on him to say the wrong things !

Obama should really try talking to other economists besides just the outdated Keynesians (aka monetarists). It's like the blind leading the blind.

Is it just me, or will those 600,000 jobs make up for about one month's worth of job losses since Novermber 2008?

Isn't this then kinda like bragging about cutting $100M from federal spending?

It's exactly like that. But he's only talking to the ones who don't pay attention.

He's cornering himself. 2010 can't get here fast enough, and I hope Americans wake up like they did in 1994.

Doesnt getting a whole 600k jobs out of the huge amounts of money spent on 'stimulus' prove that the 'stimilus' is a failure?

But its getting better, only 345,000 were lost last month, compared to what the "experts" claimed.....lol.

Ever noticed how the experts are never right?:2wave: Hey, is it me, or does the term "expert", mean you know what your talking about???? But they are always "surprised" at the numbers that come out month to month.

Yes... "about half of the monthly average for the last 6 monthts".

That means the losses for the last 6 months average almost 700k each.

I wonder if we could turn back the clock, erase Bush's stimulus and every ounce of stimulus from Obama since, where we'd be right now.

Dow might be at 11,000. GM would have filed banko anyway. AIG, Fannie, Freddie, BofA, etc. We might be in the exact same situation as now, with less debt, and a vanishing recession.

Books will be written one day on this question alone.

Except for one thing: revisionist history. FDR is glorified as ending the depression and Hoover is regarded as a rugged individualist. Both are bold-faced lies. History will praise the liberal who did the most.

History is being erased right before our eyes. It's a very scary thought.

"the economists"? Which ones? Are you asserting that all economists have the same views and echo the same words? Do you not realize that "the economists" all disagree with each other on pretty much everything?

Look at the UK both economic policies under Brown and reaction(much of Europe as well)--

That is whats coming to America thanks to Obama's garbage policies of spend spend spend spend spend spend spend spend.

The President doesn't have a crystal ball, nor does he personally have his finger on the pulse of the nation's economy. He relies on analysts whose projections are constantly shifting based on present factors. Some days the DOW rises and some days it goes down. It's the job of the President to issue policy based on the most reliable projections... but even the most reliable projections are not 100% certain.

Excellent chance the Dow would be at 2000 today, having recovered from its December low. If you don't understand the need for stimulus, just sit quietly and let the smart people fix things for you.

You have to be kidding. If you're going to insult people, could you at least back it up?

The "smart" people you adore caused the housing fiasco, and their solution is more of the same "fixin" that caused that to begin with.
