Mudd out as DHS intel chief

Phil Mudd, Obama's DHS pick, has decided not to be considered for the job.

Mudd, according to an Associated Press source, had connections to the Bush administration's torture program as deputy director of the Office of Terrorism Analysis at the CIA.

Obama says we don't torture, but then nominates a guy who had connections to Bush's torture program. I am glad Mudd dropped out, but I also have to admit that he dropped out in a very classy way. Does not say much about Obama's campaign promises, though, does it?

Interesting note that Obama's name is really Mudd now. It was a man named Mudd that this phrase is based on. And now, another man named Mudd continues the tradition. :mrgreen:

If anything, it speaks more to the naivete shown by Dear Leader in the practicalities of governance.

Dear Leader stirred up this "torture" tea-pot tempest with his idiotic decision to publish Department of Justice memoranda on the subject. He raised the temperature further when he indicated criminal prosecution "might" fall on the attorneys who drafted the memoranda.

By going for the easy populist ploy, Dear Leader surrendered any control he might have had on this topic, and now it is boomeranging to taint any of his desired appointees who might have any ties to enhanced interrogation in the previous Administration.

For an administration that is highly allergic to grinding out the details of an issue, Dear Leader has allowed his to become bogged down in the interminable rounds of "what did he/she know and when did he know it?" that is a staple of political news commentary. Every casualty such as Mudd merely extends the news coverage and impedes the rest of the business of governing.
