Obama to pick Sotomayer for Supreme Court

It's amazing that these people talk politics on a daily basis yet were too foolish to see the obvious left-wing freight train that was coming down the tracks in the form of Obama.
I hope every Conservative geezer on the SC retires so Obama can pack that panel with Libs! Then maybe we can see a constitutional amendment that guarantees automatic waterboarding for cry baby righties. Oh there will be so many ways to oppress those poor poor Republiconservatrians and so little time.;)

You are not being nice to the GOPPERS !!!

A quote taken out of context.

Do her decisions or written opinions reflect that at all?

Yes.

If you haven't seen the comments/rulings/whatnot yet... you will....

Yes.

I will try asking you this, maybe you can do more than the rest.

What rulings do you take exception to?

If you disagree with a judges decisions than it's ""legislating from the bench." but if you agree with the judges decisions then the judge has the wisdom of Solomon !!!
Isn't that the truth.

Bush v. Gore had the SC overturning a Florida law as intrerpreted by the Florida Supreme Court.

Re: Conservative groups criticize Sotomayor pick

Sorry but I live in Manhattan (not New England) and have owned a house in rural southeastern Virginia for almost 30 years. In that part of the south to this day the little towns are segregated, either all white or all black. You're entitled to your opinion but that's all it is, an opinion, and I never said the South, I said Republican strongholds which also implies Nebraska, Kansas, Wyoming, Montana....for example...and can you share with me how Blacks have fared traditionally in these heavily majority white states?

FYI Manhattan is right in the middle of New England.
New England compromises the northeastern states.

Did you ever consider that this is segregation by de facto and not de jure.

I see that you are now dodging your intent, thats fine.

You're the one who defensively attacked me about my ignorance of the south when in fact you're the one with a chip on his shoulder. You consider me to be out of touch and I consider you to be way out of touch....like most Republicans when it comes to social issues and race which is why the GOP is in a coma and is a party that is at least 85% (probably higher) white.

Of course I have to defend the south every time someone dumps on it with their irrational bigotry.

Generally speaking Republicans don't legislate by someones race, thats a plus because legislated things by race produces inequalities.

FYI dude, I'm not a Republican.

Choosing a Hispanic women raised in a modest, urban environment is brilliant. When the Supremes deliberate having all sorts of backgrounds (aka diversity) means that multiple points of view will be considered.

Why is choosing a person defined by race and gender brilliant?

Does it make her more knowledgeable because she is an "afflicted minority"?

Sonia Sotomayor nominated to SCOTUS

Obama nominates Sonia Sotomayor to Supreme Court - CNN.com

Article said:
If confirmed, Sotomayor, 54, would be the first Hispanic U.S. Supreme Court justice and the third woman to serve on the high court.

Sotomayor "is an inspiring woman who I believe will make a great justice," Obama said at a White House announcement.

She "has worked at almost every level of our judicial system, providing her with a depth of experience and a breadth of perspective that will be invaluable as a Supreme Court justice," he added.

Obama said Sotomayor would bring more experience on the bench than anyone currently serving on the Supreme Court when appointed.

She faces a lot of opposition from Conservatives who believe that she is an activist judge, according to the article. She rose quickly to power and apparently offended some people along the way.

Anyway... I'm curious to know what others think of this nomination?

I will try asking you this, maybe you can do more than the rest.

What rulings do you take exception to?

Dunno if you can call them rulings but her position on the CT firefighters
(# Ricci v. DeStefano. In this 2008 case, Sotomayor participated in a one-page decision that allowed the City of New Haven, Connecticut to scrap the results of a promotion test for the city's firefighters because no African-Americans passed the test. In April 2009, the Supreme Court said that it would review the Second Circuit's decision.)

....and her general written/expressed views on what the courts are.
Her social views are questionable as well.

That is a ruling, yes. You have shown a dislike for one out of hundreds of rulings she has made. Did Rush tell you about any others you might want to object to, cuz one ruling is not much.

Why did you avoid the question?

So far you have come up with one ruling out of hundreds you disagree with. Do you have any others? Surely Rush told you about more than one...

I didn't, i simply asked for the context she was taken out of. Lets back up a claim, before we demand answers to the next question. ;)

come now, if you want me to do all this work for you, wouldn't it be fair that the otherside at least answer my question 1st?

what context was she taken out of?

The term "judicial activist" has always seemed like code for "too liberal."

Funny how we don't hear that term applied to far right wing judges whose consistency in ruling in ways pleasing to conservatives.

 you attack that strawman! You go girl!

Yeah, real apples and apples! Bush only went to Yale because his daddy and granddaddy went there not on his own merits.

Sotomayer on the other hand earned the right to go there coming from the exact opposite type of childhood as the caveman aka George W. Bush.

Bush is a MORON - always was and will be.

Sotomayer has brilliant credentials and has earned every success she's achieved.

Does anyone actually believe that Bush is a self-made man? :rofl:rofl

lol champs, you wascally wabbit.

What straw man? It's the truth. YOUR post is the straw man here.

Prove that right wingers use "activist" for a code word for "too liberal"...

Show one right winger who made the argument that she was "too liberal" and was called a "judicial activist" because of it.

STRAWMAN.

I expressed an opinion, based on the observation that "judicial activist" seems to be applied exclusively to liberal judges. I don't remember ever hearing that term applied to a conservative judge - at least, not by conservatives.

Perhaps instead of getting all snarky with me, you could prove me wrong by showing several examnples of conservatives criticizing conservative judges as "judicial activists."

So you have nothing but "feelings" got it.

So you want to make a statement, not back it up, then you want me to argue against this strawman you just built?

Please.

If confirmed, I hope Sotomayer will use her intellect to be a "swing" judge, one whose vote cannot be taken for granted by either side.

Unlike Scalia, who uses his intellectual prowess to consistently come up with legal arguments pleasing to conservatives.

I see. You can't come up with any facts to prove me wrong, eh? And what's so wrong with "feelings?" We use our instincts and feelings all the time to make decisions. My "feelings" were based on an observation. I challenged you to prove my observation wrong, but instead you chose to continue with the snarky meaningless remarks at me.

I guess you don't have any argument after all, just bluster.
