U.S. to Expand Immigration Checks to All Local Jails

It's about time something like this happened. I applaud Bush for starting the program, which is in effect for all state and federal prison facilities. By adding local jails to the mix, illegal aliens that commit more crimes after they cross the border are going to be quickly targeted for removal from the United States. Obama has done well here, but in my opinion, its just a start. We need to begin taking action against companies that knowingly hire illegals.

This bothers me. An illegal immigrant has, by definition, committed a crime.

We are talking about the woman who is worried about that damned lawless Canadian border.. and some gibberish about we have borders, and that is the future... no ****?

Napolitano is doing more for securing the southern border than any president or politician has in modern history.

Hopefully they expand this to checking work sites.If illegals can not get jobs then they will go back home in their country.

Even though I don't think illegal immigration is that big of a deal in terms of the larger economic problems, if there is going to be big talk about something being done then it's good to see some followthrough.

Even though her remarks about the Northern border were off the cuff, this administration actually is looking at Canadian border issues as well.

The natural interpretation is that she is focusing on illegals who commit crimes besides entering the country illegally. In that regard, her priorities are correct.

If the government is willing to make people who want to buy guns go through ID checks then I see no reason for it not to check the legal status of immigrants who go to jail in this country.

See, now this is another thing I just do not understand. An illegal immigrant is some one who has shown, simply by being an illegal immigrant, that they do not respect the laws of this country, and are willing to take advantage of the people of this country for their own benefit. I don't see a need to focus on those who commit additional crimes.

Now, I also understand the practical implications, ie it's easier to catch an illegal immigrant if he/she has got themselves locked up in our jails for something else, and as such, fully support this. It just grinds my gears is all that we make the distinction between illegal immigrants, and "illegal immigrants who have committed crimes".

This is a good idea and no doubt politically motivated.

But I see a lot more flash than substance.

If the federal govt. was serious about illegal immigration, they would stop it at the border.

The reasons they do not is obvious. One Mexican official said a couple of years ago that without the "safety valve" of immigration to the United States, Mexico would be become ungovernable.

"Safety valve of imigration". I`m thinking that The scum that make up the government of Mexico knew that a revolution was drawing near. NAH !
The insane rates of illegals pooring into this country was for more cheap labor to fill the needs of the money whores of America.

The common adol minded American hasn`t drawn a connection between 20 million illegals, and 20 million Americans out of work. Safety valve :rofl

During the work day, go down to your local skate board park and check out how many adults are there instead of at work....
I have a poor relative who won't work for "only" $10 per hour. He can do that because he has a govt paid (Navy) disability that keeps him from starving to death, and the state of Texas won't take his inherited shack for unpaid taxes until he dies. What is his OFFICIAL disability? His hearing is bad. big deal...
I could have told them 40 years ago that his real disability is laziness, but they didn't ask me....

I agree that, by default illegals are breaking the law by coming in here- hence the term "illegal immigrant".

Thought that's it, the laws concerned immigration - not those concerning (per-se, meaning some might further break these laws listed as follows) fraud, theft, rape, murder. You can break one law without disrespecting other laws. Immigration is not the ultimate law of this country, you can break one law and still have respect for the rest of the laws of the land as ****ed up as it may very well be.

This is great, send them all back to Mexico, or wherever they came from, as soon as possible.

If in the course of any activity which would require identification shows a person is an illegal then they should not receive whatever they are trying to get and immediately be arrested and processed for deportation.
They should also be tagged(not literally but in files and such) as being in-eligible for immigration until they go through a circus of annoyances.

Those caught in the USA illegal after being expelled for being illegals should be held and used by either by individual state governments or the federal governments as workers until either they or their home nation pays off a set debt.

Employers who are shown to have knowingly hired illegals should have their business seized dismantled and auctioned off.

Problem is as this threads headline shows...the powers that be do not have the backbone to enforce the laws. If they did I wouldn't be reading about them now checking for illegals in JAIL...something that always should have been occuring.
