Netanyahu stands firm against demands from Obama

Netanyahu stands firm against demands from Obama - Telegraph

Israel stood firm against demands from Barack Obama on Monday to cease the construction of Jewish settlements and embrace the "two-state solution" to achieving peace in the Middle East.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, in his first meeting with the US president, made it clear that while he welcomed Mr Obama's commitment to the region, he was more concerned about dealing with the threat of Iran than peace talks.

Mr Obama was unable to secure any commitments on ceasing the construction of Jewish settlements in the West Bank or embracing the "two-state solution" to achieving peace in the Middle East.

How do you all rate Obama's meeting with netanyahu? Was it a success, and for whom?

I think netanyahu is right about Iran. It should be the focus with Obama, before talks of settlements, and a two state solution can be discussed.

What say you?

Netanyahu completely out classed BO.

Obama is such a little boy on the international stage. It would be best that we keep him home so as not to embarrass ourselves. I NEVER thought I would miss the Bush Years, but Jesus... Obama is sad. At this point, Obama just needs to focus on domestic problems. We elected two idiot children in a row. Good for us. Go Team America!

ANYTHING Obama does, the right will complain. Big surprise there.

I understand Iran is a bigger concern for Israel right now, however, if they can't handle more than two topics at a time it is THEM who are "little boys on the international playing field".

All Israel is doing with the continuation of the settlements is just adding fuel to the already continuing fire between them and Palestine.

And prey tell what did Obama do that is so embarrassing in Israel? Try to get Israel to recognize a two-state solution and halt building on the settlement? Oh yeah, that's embarrassing.

Maybe he should have convinced Isreal to just slaughter every Palestinian, I'm sure that would have made many on the right happy and joyful with glee.

Obama isn't embarrassing Israel. He is embarrassing America. And Israel ought to recognize a two-state solution, they just shouldn't be so stupid as to give up territory necessary to their own security. Simple distinctions are too complicated for Axelrod and Obama.

Personally I think Obama has gotten kind of a big head from the absurd amount of praise that people gave him during his campaign run (and some still continue to give him). I think he really thought that he was going to go there and just solve everything in one fell swoop. Hopefully this meeting brought him down a few pegs so that he can realize it's going to take a lot more for peace to be achieved in the Middle East.

Obviously it is not a success for President Obama. Whether it was a victory for Netanyahu remains to be seen.

Iran and a two state solution are two separate issues, no?

Obama screwed up his routine.
He now has a year of his butt smooching "talks" with Iran.
Wasn't his intent going by his language to set a timetable on talks with Iran..but that is how it is being taken.

Not according to Obama and his staff.

I never said he was embarrassing Israel, I asked what did he do that was so embarrassing IN Israel?

Still waiting for examples instead of rhetoric. Given that Bush labeled countries right away as Axis of Evil, given that Darfur happened is examples of embarrasing America. But you long for those days. You long for the days when Bush attacked Iraq, a country that had LITTLE to do with the war on terror, given what was going around. But you long for those days.

Bush was an EMBARRASSMENT internationally. Get real and get off your partisan high horse and back to reality.

All you have proven is that ANYTHING Obama would do (even if you agreed with it) would be wrong because Obama did it.

Besides making Palestine the central part and Iran secondary..in these very talks.

Here--a summary of many recent examples from Emanuel(Chief of Staff) and Clinton(Secretary of State)

Emanuel: Thwarting Iran easier with Israeli-Palestinian talks
May 4, 2009 21:03 | Updated May 5, 2009 9:30

The task of forming an international coalition to thwart Iran's nuclear program will be made easier if progress is made in peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has said, according to sources in Washington.
White House Chief of Staff...

Israeli TV stations had reported Monday night that Emanuel had actually linked the two matters, saying that the efforts to stop Iran hinged on peace talks with the Palestinians. The remarks were reportedly made in a closed-door meeting previous day with 300 major AIPAC donors on Sunday.

Last month, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton warned Israel that it risks losing Arab support for combating threats from Iran if it rejects peace negotiations with the Palestinians.

Clinton said Arab nations had conditioned helping Israel counter Iran on Jerusalem's commitment to the peace process.

I found Obama very positive, i agreed with everything he said and think he will make a tremendous impact on the conflict by shedding new light.
Settlements first, not Iran.

Boy cried wolf, we attacked Iraq because they "had" weapons that was dangerous. Turns out we were lying sods after money. Now Iran actually MAY have such weapons. Well, is it any wonder the I Community are thinking "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me"

The Sunnis can reign in Iran, just give them a incentive.

:) Hogwash. I don't support American political parties. They are both trash. Yeah, I got a word wrong, but that doesn't change the facts. Obama is worse than Bush, which no one thought was possible. He's less intelligent, less interesting, and the only thing going for him is the press. (which should have been a sign). He would have done better on the Bachelor, if its still running. The Democrats are a joke. Stupid, Shallow, and Meaningless.

I see you are still resorting to rhetoric and not backing up your comments.

I asked how Obama was embarrasing America in Israel and you have yet to back it up.

As usual, your hatred for Obama has you blind as a bat. Hey, keep up the Rush speak, it seems all you have.

Seeing as how Obama is smarter than you, you are really insulting yourself.

Israel fears a nuclear armed Iran, and is tired of making concessions to the Palestinians that just end up causing them more problems.

So Netanyahu laid out reality to Obama. Obama is worried about being liked, and I don't think he really believes the reality of the threat facing Israel. Expect Israel to strike Iran in the next.. 60 days or less.

I hope they do and I hope they are on their own. If they want war, let them have it.....alone.

If Israel feels froggy, let them jump.

Um Triad, it is clear you don't uderstand the difference between making it the same issue and two issues that are related to each other.

Consider yourself debunked and marked for what you are, an Obama Hater to the fullest.

Bush has what exactly to do with this topic?

 thanks, but my question stands, as this topic has nothing to do with Bush. Thanks.

I agree with others who think that obama is just now learning that he is not what his hype claimed.

LOL... you cons are a hoot sometimes. How did that meeting go that the shrub had with Israel??

I'm just a little unclear what it is that you cons are ranting about? Apparently YOU felt that Obama would solve the worlds problems and since it didn't happen in his first 100 days you call him a child on the international stage? Is that a tantrum I sense?

So Obama met with the Israeli Prime Minister and asked him to be sensible and do the right thing regarding the two-state solution, the Israeli Prime Minister says he's can't chew gum and think at the same time and he feels Iran is a bigger threat. The Palestinians are a real, daily threat to the lives of the Israeli people (and vise versa) while Iran is a possible threat years down the road. But we can't forget that the very rightwing Netanyahu needs to keep his people scared about a nuclear threat so he can press forward with his agenda... you know, the way the shrub admin used fear in America.

I dunno, looks to me like Netanyahu is the fool.

Israel is a loose cannon on the stage of international relations, and I support them 100%.

What say you?

There was no success for anyone. I think it was a failure for both.

Obama has the right ideas, but Israel is apparently not ready for them just yet and would rather focus on Iran for now.

Anyway, I think it's pretty safe to say that peace in the ME will not happen under this US president's watch either. Not that I ever thought it would, either.

You have got to be kidding.

Its pretty commmon knowledge with people who are paying attention that the link has been made.
I proved my point with official language/comments from high ranking members of this administration..you simply said nu uh and made a snide comment.

BTW
Debunking does not equate your clearly baseless opinion.
