No reports on damages or anything yet, I just felt it in San Diego and checked the USGS website.

A 3.1 aftershock also followed, which is significant for an aftershock.

We had one in Texas too the other day.

I felt it all the way south in Carlsbad. It was a short one with two jolts down here.

I hope everyone out there is alright. I've got some family near Anaheim, I'll be sure to call tomorrow to check up on them.

That was fun! It lasted about 10 seconds.

My kid thought it was me shaking her bunk... "Dad! Cut it out!"

Keep it down! Some of us are trying to relax.

Seriously, it's like living under a dance studio.

I'm 90 miles east of the 33.940°N, 118.338°W location and I was emailing a friend in San Diego when it hit. Here just 15 miles from Palm Springs it rolled fr 10 seconds no rumbling and none of the giant rocks on the San Jacinto Mountains came down. I was listening to KNX 1070 am on line and as the quake ended the on air personality was feeling and talking about it. I went to the USGS site which I have listed near the top of my favorites and within the time it took me to get there it was already listed as a 4.7 and raised to a 5.0 in 30 seconds then rolled back to 4.7 a few minutes later. I have been tracking and locating all quakes in California on Google earth as I live 6.5 miles south of the San Andreas fault and in just the past two monthes there have been dozens and I only pin point those of 1.5 or larger.
I was in San Diego in 1971 when the Selmar 6.6 quake hit at 6:00 in the morning, now that was a quake and a half. Tonights was classified as moderate. There have been many after shocks the biggesthas been 3.1.

If you look on that USGS link I posted in the first message, Alaska gets hit a lot also, most are off shore, but there has been a string of
5.0s up there in the past week. Although Alaska is right where the Caribbean and the Pacific Plates meet..

Seriously, do people get that worked up over a little ol' Fiver in L.A.?

Ya they do. Earthquakes you can feel only happen every few years. I have lived in southern California my whole life (I'm 28) and there has only been 5 or 6 over a 4.0.
