U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanistan

Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

No no no, we got a hold of it at perfected it
;)

Simplified it more like. Haemoglobin/Hemoglobin, loads of stuff paticularly in the biology field. Guess cause you guys are a bit mentally, you know, simpler that your superior British decendants. Dont be ashamed, though. You created McDonalds and have bought much joy to the world as a result.

Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

:rofl

The english language was ours before you Yanks got a hold of it and screwed it up :p

You didn't give us much to work with; English breaks all of its own rules, uses foreign words hand in hand with English equivalents and is based on a redundant alphabet.

Frankly it's amazing we were able to base any form of government on English at all, yet we created not only the longest surviving democracy in human history but the strongest nation on earth.

Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

Hmm...ok...they strap on explosives and blow up school busses full of children, behead prisoners and stone rape victims......we offer free bibles.....wow we're really extreme.

Nah. We were offering nothing. A stupid Chaplain, who in all likelihood nobody cares about, told some apathetic troops to hand out Bibles. The troops probably took the Bibles and threw them in the bottom of their sea bags.

Non-issue folks.

Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

There's a difference between soldiers freely practicing their religion and members of our military aiming to convert locals in foreign lands.

I am not in favor of it as a military goal, as it is a waste of resources, but the personal time of a soldier is their own. If a guy gives another guy a book, and a third guy has the notion that he has the right to physically attack either of the first two over the exchange, I want that third man physically attacked in response, to as lethal a degree as he requires, until he recants his previously held notion. Anyone who thinks they can attack another over a voluntary gift of a book needs to have the notion beaten out of them.

As far as the bolded above I can't believe anyone would believe in beating the faith into someone. That's insanity.

Thats not what the bolded portion says though. Leaving other people alone, or live and let live, is certainly a behavior we are willing to beat into anyone. Lets be frank about it.

Completely ridiculous and not the point.

I can't run up to a public school building right now and attempt to convert the wee ones to Christians and then get outraged and claim there are rapists as my defense on why a little public school conversion is benign.

The US soldiers were holding service in an afghan school?

What did I miss?

Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

Let's see what happens to your crusade once it's not backed by the guns and might of the US Army. Though it's still probably illegal by Afghanistan law.

What crusade?

You have American military people talking about Christianity. Suddenly it is now a crusade.

:rofl

Damn you Americans and your burgers and to die for chips.

Yes. Muslim tomerance is a model we should all follow.

Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

Don't offer free bibles if you are a soldier and is occupying that country.

I can just imagine the message and image.
A soldier with a bible in one hand preaching love and a gun in the other.

Laila,

This is a non-issue of epic proportions. Chaplains are simply spiritual and emotional advisors to the troops, nothing more. They don't have any real authority at all. They talk to the troops, the troops day dream about fast-food and girls in bikinis, and the Chaplain leaves. Trust me, you have nothing to worry about.

Hey kid. Look at post #51 the first time you addressed me. Then practice what you preach.

Hey, sparky, it was in response to you being sour with another respected member. Deal with it or adjust your attitude. Choice is yours.

Fair enough.
Why extend it past the soldiers tho? The spirtual guidance thing i mean?

It is if you're trying to claim that it's ok for US military to attempt to spread Christianity. When you use a State military to invade and then spread a religion in an area, that's a crusade. This isn't about our military men and women having the ability to practice their religion; this is about them breaking the rules of the military and trying to proselytize the native population.

Ethereal has no excuse. There is no excuse. He is making up BS for his sadistic religion. These so called spiritual guides have no right to extend what they do beyond military personnel, finished. Anyway, its the military personnel themselves that is doing not. Read the article.

If they didn't use a giant tent, I don't think it counts as a crusade.

We offer free food and medical care, and those actions are far more religious acts than simply unfolding a table and placing a stack of bibles on them with a "free" sign, so why not?

I can just imagine the message and image.

Sure but that's a separate point altogether, not at all what I was talking about.

Have some perspective. People on this thread are acting like we've released the plague here. Solders attempting to convert the locals does cross a line, but when placed in context to what real radicals do, this is not the end of humanity you make it out to be.

I'm not supporting solders evangelizing here, though you are treating everyone who doesn't share your exact view as though they actually are the enemy you imagine them to be.

I'm simply asking you to have some perspective.

Pic link please?

Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

Muslims can learn to tolerate other religions very fast, if it is in their face and on pain of death

As far as the bolded above I can't believe anyone would believe in beating the faith into someone. That's insanity.

Oh really ?

"This is very damaging for diplomatic relations between the two counties. É Everyone knows people are very conservative here, very faithful to Islam. They will never accept any other religion. Someone who leaves Islam is sentenced very severely Ğ the death penalty [is imposed]," he said.

Why bother in the beginning?
Are we trying to get the Afghans killed and the soldiers placed in danger?

Now frankly, If Americans wish to place US Soldiers in such a position. I'm backing off but not whilst there are British soldiers in the same country and if it got out Bibles are being handed out then a ****storm will happen.

Freedom of religion does not exist in Afghanistan, some people need to remember that

Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

Does Afghanistan have separation of church and state?

The Chaplain is an idiot, nothing more to it love.

Chaplains are officers, so I suppose the anti-theists on this thread would have proffered an entire platoon be compromised for insubordination then simply have the officer disciplined.

Re: U.S. soldiers encouraged to spread message of their Christian faith in Afghanista

Despite my disgust at what some American military personnel is doing, such laws that abuse human rights that are placed in Afghanistan should not be respected by any NATO personnel and ignored completely.

I don't believe they do. What are you getting at, friend?
