Egypt slaughtering all pigs to stop swine flu

Since I don't think they serve pork in Egypt, I wonder what they had the pigs for. What else can you even do with swine?

Oh... I don't think you really want to know - however a little hint if you have a bible around - the reason why the were classed as biblically "unclean" animals...

LOL
There are actual pigs in Egypt? News to me.

That was my thought, too!

What are unclean animals doing in a Muslim nation???

Who eats them? Who touches them?

Just to give a quick idea as to how many flu deaths there were in the past few years. These are only children, as adults are not tabulated.

During the 2003-04 Season, 153 flu-associated deaths in children were reported to CDC.
During the 2004-05 Season, 47 deaths in children were reported to CDC.
During the 2005-06 Season, 46 deaths in children were reported to CDC.
As of August 6, 2007, 68 deaths in children occurring during the 2006-07 season have been reported to CDC.

CDC - Influenza (Flu) | Q & A: 2006-07 Influenza (Flu) Season

There are 35,000 deaths per year from influenza in the USA.

This doesn't seem like a big deal. There is Tamiflu that will kill the flu, There are many deaths due to virus every year. What makes this such an uproar? :doh

It's gives the news media something to focus on instead of the failures and impending failures of the Obama Gang. Like, for instance, the idiotic flying stunt in New York, or maybe the fact that The Messiah, ranks second from the bottom in favorability of all presidents at this time in their tenures since that polling began. The bottom prez? Why, the Rapist President, of course.

I think Rev was more making a joke about the fact that someone that doesn't eat the wonderful and tasty bounty of pig related food like bacon, pork chops, pork loins, and pulled pork bbq can not possibly be "fine" or "okay" or "normal" in any sense of the word for one must be crazy to want to forgo such wonderful food. ;) More of a joking statement about the wonders of pork than a comment on thinking you'd be healthy.

And damn....what an absolute waste. Seriously, cut the meat off the things and freeze it and ship that around the world. We always hear about starving people....well, 300,000+ pork chops for everyone! ;)

Also, could we just........export ALL of PETA over there? This could at least distract them and keep them out of our hair for a few months couldn't it?

uhm there are about 46 chops per pig,

46x300,000=13,800,000 pork chops..... thats a big "+" indeed.

I don't eat pork. Ever. That being said, this seems a bit ridiculous.

The true "unclean animals" are the Muslims..they should throw away their Korans and open their eyes...

Why would anyone NOT eat pork, unless they are bound by some silly religious superstition?? I have eaten pork 2 -3 times a week my entire life.

Anyone who thinks beef and chickens are cleaner than pigs has never been to a chicken enclosure or a beef feed lot. Pigs are also the smartest animals on the farm.

I'll take a shot and say that vegetarians/vegans aren't bound by any religious superstition and do it because well. They just don't like meat. I've NEVER eaten an olive consciously. I find that they taste, smell and look disgusting. It's been put in my food and most of the time I have a gag reaction when told. It's just one of those things. You hate some foods. You love some foods.

Yeah, being a vegan is a possible reason, but the way he worded it gave me the impression that he eats other kinds of meat.

There's a few foods I won't eat, but not many. Pork gives me heartburn every time I eat it, but it's worth it.

Maybe I am wrong ... but ... don't muslims avoid pork like the plague?

Fixed it for you. Vegans for the most part do it for social and political reasons aka "superstition".

Very few do it because they don't like meat.

Prove it. Definition of a superstition :

[ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superstition[/ame]

Superstition (Latin superstitio, literally "standing over"; derived perhaps from standing in awe;[1] used in Latin as an unreasonable or excessive belief in fear or magic, especially foreign or fantastical ideas, and thus came to mean a "cult" in the Roman empire)[2][3] is a belief or notion, not based on reason or knowledge. The word is often used pejoratively to refer to supposedly irrational beliefs of others, and its precise meaning is therefore subjective. It is commonly applied to beliefs and practices surrounding luck, prophecy and spiritual beings, particularly the irrational belief that future events can be influenced or foretold by specific, unrelated behaviours or occurrences.

If I have political or social reasons for being a vegan/vegetarian then it is no longer a superstition.

Example of a non-superstition :

If I do not eat beef because I've observed/read about the way they are piled into trucks by the dozens and made to live a horrible existence in 'farms' that I consider unethical then that is not a superstition. It is a choice based on facts.

Example of a superstition :

Going to church every weekend and kneeling in front of another man to eat a mass manufactured cracker because I believe it is the body of Jesus Christ.

Get it? Got it? Good.

Wow is this how you reply to being found to be making things up? Or are you going to provide ANY evidence for your claims?

Nice to see your bigotry is alive and well. :2wave:

Are you playing the victim card? Or is it only a superstition when you want to apply it to people who've decided not to eat meat?
