This sort of wastefulness costs the taxpayers thousands of dollars and must stop..
No wonder we have such huge budget deficits.
All for a silly un-necessary "photo-op"...
We need men in Washington with the ability to think and to be fiscally responsible...

You mean the President wasn't aboard, but I didn't claim he was. He was giving a speech at the time, I believe, and yes I know that since he wasn't aboard that the jet's call sign was not AF1.

As I am speaking as a civilian referring to one of the two jets used to carry the President, I think you know damn well what I'm talking about.

The president was not on board the plane

The White House has apologised after a low-level flight by a presidential jet and a fighter plane sparked panic among New York City office workers.

The half-hour flight triggered the evacuation of a number of office buildings in the city.

Pentagon officials said the fly past - a photographic exercise not involving President Obama - had been co-ordinated with city and state authorities.

No general public notification was issued in advance.

"While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey, it's clear that the mission created confusion and disruption," Louis Caldera, director of the White House military office, said in a statement.

"I apologise and take responsibility for any distress that flight caused."

New Yorkers were startled as the planes flew over the city's harbour
Correspondents say many New York residents are still scarred by the September 2001 attacks when airliners ploughed into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington DC.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he was "furious" about the incident, criticising those responsible for failing to warn the public.

"The good news is it was nothing more than an inconsiderate, badly conceived and insensitive photo op with the taxpayers' money," said Mr Bloomberg.

The Boeing 747 jet is one of two planes known as Air Force One when the US president is aboard.

yeah it is a pisser when the government is bitching out car execs for taking private planes and somehow this bs can happen. I think it is a prime example of a suborinite kissing up though. and i hope this general is throughly flogged.

These kinds of flights also serve to keep up flight crew proficiency. Flying skills deteriorate rather quickly and simulators aren't the same as actual flight time.

The jury is still out according to Joseph Farah and at least 360,000 petition signers.

Everyone reading this column knows that the news service over which I preside has been virtually alone in covering one of the biggest electoral scandals in American history – maybe the biggest.

I'm talking about the question of Barack Obama's constitutional eligibility to serve as president.

Even many of Obama's political opponents and harshest critics continue to pretend this is a non-issue, that it's a matter that has somehow been settled, that it is a question only people who wear tin-foil hats are discussing.

I know that's not the case, given a petition I began demanding proof Obama is a "natural-born citizen" has now attracted more than 360,000 signees.

Yet, the cover-up continues.

Instead of apologizing for his administrations actions he ran out found someone to blame and made them apologize.
Once again showing Obama is not President material.

Whenever he can use a stituation to aggrandize himself he does..whenever it hurts him he drops it on someone else. Whenever he is unsure how it will play out he authorizes(not orders) someone else to make the decisions.

This situation is unreal. It is utterly detestable that the Obama administration did something like this. Hello?!?!?!?!?! Does anybody over there have a freaking brain in their heads?!?!?!?! I am no defender of George W. Bush, I think he was an awful president. But think for a second, imagine if George W. Bush did this. The media would be all over him. Yet, Obama pretty much gets a free pass, except for Hannity and Glenn Beck. Just goes to show how awful the corporate media is and how much of an idiot Obama is.

No of course not. Commercial airliners or private aircraft at that are not allowed to fly that low anywhere let alone NYC. During flight when not nearing the destination airport, its a standard requirement that planes maintain an altitude of about 26-30 odd thousand feet (something along those regions it varies from country to country). Regardless, this isnt your average private aircraft or your commerial airliner. Its the presidents plane, and they can get special clearance whenever they want to.

It's restricted airspace, one should not be seeing a plane over New York that low.

In the only clip of Obama responding to the flyover, I heard him apologize and insist it would not happen again. The "blaming", and "aggrandizing" you so eagerly condemn apparently occurred only within your opinionated mind.

The scheduling of the flight, and the decision to make it, did not originate within the White House, but in the branch of the military which maintains government transportation. Your instant assignment of blame for this incident to the president is transparently partisan and misplaced.

I think it would be a good thing for Obama to at least visit the mayor, get tv coverage and make sure he gives an honest apology to the people of NYC.
