Obama Seeks $100M Budget Trim From Cabinet

In what amounts to a scene out of Hollywood's version of executive power, President Obama will convene his first Cabinet meeting this morning and order his department chiefs to immediately cut a combined $100 million from their budgets.

Like the main character in the fantasy "Dave," Obama appears to be trying to work the nation's books, though the $100 million figure amounts to a drop in the $3.5 trillion bucket given preliminary approval earlier this month by Congress.

Obama Seeks $100M Budget Trim From Cabinet - First 100 Days of Presidency - Politics FOXNews.com

This is just the beginning. Go O!

For more Populist appeal I think Dr. O (sounds better this way) should take a page from Mayor Bloomberg's journal and lower his salary to $1.

I think he needs to reaffirm that the President Is a public servant .

Then he should throw a Tea-Party and invite everyone. A big block of cheese will be set outside of the white-house, and will feed us all.

Lol?

Trillions of wasteful spending, and we're to be excited by this shell game proposal? Seriously?

I'm not trying to sound overly partisan here but this... this is insulting. It makes me realize how stupid the public is. "Hey, I know we just wasted TRILLIONS of dollars, and have budgets so high that you're grandkids will still be paying off our debt,m but hey look, we're gonna TRY to cut 100,000,000.00 from our budgets! See we get it, we care!"

Again Mr. V. I must remind you that you are making an assumption that the dollars spent have gone to waste. That the purpose of the bail out is a no-go. And most of the arguments against the bailout are in spite of the ideals behind the spending, not the actual spending.
Why you don't apply that here.. I have no idea.

Did Obama sit there and write the budget by hand? No. Were some of his ideas incorporated into it? Yes. The good thing is that Obama's cutting through the bureaucracy where he has the power as the president. I recommend you take your grievances regarding the budget to your local Congressman.

If Obama signs spending bills, then he is just as culpable as Congress. I bashed the crap out of Bush for signing the same kind of crap. Now it's Obama's turn. Too bad your side doesn't feel the same way. I remember LOTS of Liberals bashing Bush on spending, and now they giving Obama a free pass for doing the exact same thing.

Hypocrisy is not a friend of just one side here, is it?

Who's "my side?" Are you accusing me of being a liberal Democrat? We'll see what happens when it gets to Obama's desk. I suspect he will sign it, because not doing so will give the Republicans a lot of power. A Republican president would do the same thing.

Go check out Murtha's airport in Pennsylvania. Tell me that's not wasteful, by the way, their getting a new runway thanks to that Bill Obama signed..

So, Obama trims 1/35,000 from the budget and he's a fiscal hero?

Ya know, call me radical, but doesn't it seem odd that this is only Dear Leader's FIRST Cabinet meeting? We're on day what? 60? 70?

Cart before the horse here Hombre. ;)

He seeks to trim $100 million. He's done nothing but talk so far, and we've seen how his words & promises have turned out.

Well, crap, guess Bernanke's going to have to print an extra billion just for the Cabinet....

First, let me give credit to Obama for cutting $100M from the Budget. That's $100M more of our money he's not taking then previously.

Second, give me a ****ing break. So the budget is $3.4T instead? That's still a record setting budget yes? That's still THREE POINT FOUR TRILLION DOLLARS of our money is it not? Obama pushed for a great portion of the budget, yes? The democratic congress was the one primarily creating the budget, yes? Obama would be signing the budget, yes?

Jesus Christ, MASSIVELY slapping Obama on the back for cutting $100M out of that is like your boss telling you he's lowering your hourly wage to $1.00 an hour but then saying "Don't worry, I'm going to give you a 3% bonus on top of it."

Thirdly, weren't some of the same democrats in the media and on this board and sitting as PRESIDENT the ones that lambasted and attacked McCain and his followers for the fact that cutting out earmarks would only account for a small percentage of the total money spent? Well, how are you going to justify attacking McCain over that when you're now trying to get pats on the back for a less than THREE PERCENT cut out of the budget. To me, that looks like a "small percentage" does it not? So why was McCain's talk of cutting earmarks out of the budget to help save money a "distraction" and a "stunt" that would have little real impact or meaning because it was a small percentage but yet this is somehow a great sign of compromise and bipartisanship and fiscal responsability from Obama.

Give me an F'ing break.

Nice job on cutting $100M from your overly bloated over the top budget, glad for it. However you don't get a ****ing cookie because you're still spending a record amount.

While this in fact true, remember that Bush never really pushed for such cuts at the same time as signing lots of spending bills. Cutting has to start somewhere and Obama is at least on the right track in doing so. While $100 million is pennies on the dollar, you gotta start somewhere. Historically, looking at HW, who did sign spending bills, he did also start serious cuts at the same time as raising taxes to get out of Reagan's red pool. If Obama can do much of the same, then maybe he won't be as much of a failure as people are predicting.

Funniest part(besides the entire thing being a joke) is that Obama gave his crack staff 90 days to find enough cuts to add up to 100 million.

...in a 3.5-4 Trillion dollar budget.

It won't even matter IF they manage it. Which is highly doubtful with this crowd of boobs.
More then likely THEY will put in more spending which will make even cutting 100 billion meaningless.

One laugh after another from this joke of a "leader"
