Court says Murtha can't be sued

"But the Bush Justice Department sided with Murtha, arguing that Murtha was acting within his official duties as a congressman when he made the Haditha comments and thus couldn’t be sued under the Federal Tort Claims Act. That legislation protects government officials from legal action over official duties. "

One law for them.........

I've long felt that it is very odd in our culture how people are scrutinized, even demonized, for the things that they say in response, much more than the things that were done in the first place.

why are words more important than actions?

The marines were innocent, some declared so by a court of law. Not just "not guilty" but "innocent".

Murtha is a dirtbag and he besmirched the Marines. He should be removed from office for his lies.

what is a lie?

Murtha's calling the marines murderers, But you knew that.

"Cold blooded murderers" was I believe the exact phrase.

Has he made any kind of apology to these guys I wonder? It was just pitiful his behavior.

define "lie."

Please, you being obtuse is not something I am interested in.

You want to defend the shameful things Murtha said about the Marines, be my guest. I won't sit here and play your games because you want to obfuscate your way out of reality.

LOL. so you don't know what a lie is. you use words that you don't know the meanings of. you neglect the topic. you dodge my direct questions pertaining to the topic. and you accuse me of being "obtuse." amazing.

Murtha didn't lie. a lie is when you knowingly deceive. Murtha didn't knowingly deceive. Murtha was being a douche when he jumped to conclusions about the incident and clearly said more than he should have.

but making a mistake where you say things about something that happened (before learning all the facts) is much less worse than a mistake made where civilians died. I didn't follow the case closely, but did it end that there wasn't enough evidence to convict the marines? and meanwhile Murtha can't be sued. so douchieness gets off the hook in our country.

no matter how it happened, I'm saddened that an infant, young girls, women, etc, were killed. the bodies were there. it has nothing to do with what Murtha said, or whether or not the Marines even did it. and regardless of guilt or innocence, Murtha was right when he said, "This is the kind of war you have to win the hearts and minds of the people. And we're set back every time something like this happens."

of course, reactionary hawks will disagree. but there you go.

So going with the strawman anyway. Call me shocked.

It was a lie. He used the Marines to falsely accuse them of atrocities for political points.

You are a child molester, See I don't know so I am not knowingly deceive. But by all means, defend the man who lied about the Marines at Haditha.

So you are calling marines, who were found "innocent" douches and you base this off of your admitted ignorance. Nice.

Obfuscation again on your part. He claimed without evidence and without anyone being convicted that these marines committed "cold blooded murder". This was a lie and you trying to change the subject is not working.

of course anti-troop left wing kooks will rally behind murtha over the reputation of our armed forces, but there you go. :2wave:

Here we go again.

Simple words and concepts like... socialism, lie and "is" ...simply confound the modern leftist.

I see it often here. A simple answer to a question like... where has socialism ever succeeded... becomes a discussion of whether "is" is, or is not.

Let's make a list of words that might confound the modern leftist:
Morality.
Honesty.
Patriotism.
Liberty.
Justice.
Freedom.

Murtha was right when he said, "This is the kind of war you have to win the hearts and minds of the people. And we're set back every time something like this happens."

He was right? By falsely saying that our marines murdered these people in cold blood did that help win their hearts and minds?

Give it up,

So did you take this same defense of Bush when the Leftist media and Democrats attempted to suggest that Bush lied us into the war in Iraq?
