Man Killed While Trying to Rob Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting | wltx.com

The article. said:
Columbia (WLTX) - A New Jersey man has been shot and killed at an Alcoholics Anonymous center in South Carolina in what police say was a thwarted robbery.

The State newspaper reported that Columbia police said Sunday that a visitor to the AA center shot and killed the 18-year-old man who was trying to rob members there.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said Kayson Helms of Edison, N.J., was shot in the neck, abdomen and chest.

Columbia Police say Helms walked into the meeting at 2015 College Street, the Acoa Club, at 11 p.m. Saturday night with a gun and demanded whatever those at the center had and was shot.

Helms was taken to Palmetto Richland where he later died.

Police did not identify the man who shot Helms, but said the individual had a concealed weapons permit.

So far, no charges have been filed.

I'm sure glad there was a CCW holder there who was able to defend the group of citizens from a douchebag robber.

One group you don't want to mess with is a room full of recovering addicts. Cripes, the 2nd hand smoke alone would kill the theif.

If -some- people had their way, recovering alcoholics would not be allowed to buy guns -- after all, they might 'snap' at any time.

Good story, this one.
:applaud

I have no doubt the gun control crowd will either not show up in this thread.

Or they will show up and proclaim that the CCW holder needlessly escalated the situation.. and could have gotten people killed!! ZOMG!!!!1111

All while going on about assault rifles and grenades / nuclear weapons.

Seems to me that as soon as someone points a gun at you, your life is in immediate danger, and you may then exercise your right to use deadly force to defend yourself.

Lets not forget these are the same people who say I'm going all john rambo, cause I carry everywhere.. saying that somehow I'm mentally disturbed or something.

Ah yes... a person that carries everywhere MUST be metally disturbed, and therefore should not be allowed to carry ANYWHERE.

I wonder exactly where liberals think people -should- carry their guns...?

Looks like alcohol DOES kill, after all.

I'll drink to that.

That is completely absurd. Add that to the fact that it's the LA County Sheriff's Office urging people to do this and not some stupid anti-gun organization. Unbelievable... :doh

It's very funny to see people turning in their guns for nothing.

I've thought about going to one of these here in the Valley and offering $150 a gun in cash.

Pesky ATF and their laws concerning selling / buying weapons in mass. :(

You can't let alcoholics have guns. You know what happens when they rob a liquor store, they empty all he shelves.

One important point: action by this armed citizen may have saved many lives. We can't know what might have happened, but given the known factor of all these mass murders in the news lately, he may have saved 5, 10, 15 (up to however many people were in the building), lives by shooting down the perp before he got going.

The police would have shot him as well, only this time there was no time for this goon to kill an innocent bystander.

I know this may come as a huge shock to you, but there isn't just two monolithic sides, "pro-gun" and "anti-gun". I personally believe that people should be allowed to own guns. However, I also believe that guns should be registered, gun owners should be trained, like this hero that had a CCP (most states make you go through a firearm safety course first), and a background check should be performed whenever practical, so someone who has a history of actual mental issues, or someone who went to jail for a violent crime, doesn't get a gun legally. I'm sure most of you will put me in the "anti-gun" camp, but try to be realistic. It isn't black/white.

Gun registration has only historically ever led to confiscation.

You have more faith in the government than most anyone if you believe that won't happen down the road.

Really? It's never happened, say, that a bullet hole has been analyzed for its ballistic fingerprint, and that's been matched to records to see if matches any guns on record? It's never happened that a gun has been left at the scene of the crime, or found after being "disposed of", and used to track down its owner, the criminal? I think you're wrong.

My statement stands, gun registration in terms of governmental power.. has only ever led to confiscation.

Please re-read what I said.

This really says it all -- 'people shoud be allowed to own guns, but with all kinds of restrictions'.

This IS an anti-gun position, in that it ignores the protections afforded to the right to arms by the 2nd amendment.

What is your interpretation of 'shall not be infringed', and how do the restrictions you support not fall within that interpretation?

Maybe not in the US right now but I've lived in Britain and Australia, I've seen where the anti-gun path can lead.

It has got to point in both those countries where the pro-gun people, the pro-constitution(ie the bill of rights.) in Britain, are a very small minority all because the anti-gun policies, the stare and the anti-gun mentality gained ground.

From one of the horse's mouths... how does gun control work in your country?

Is there less violence, robberies, rapes?
