Day of protests that began peacefully turn sour as man dies during G20 demonstrations

A man died last night during the G20 protests in central London as a day that began peacefully ended with police saying bottles were thrown at police medics trying to help him.

The man had collapsed within a police cordon set up to contain the crowds who had assembled in central London and the City to protest over the G20 summit. There were 63 arrests on the day.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission was being notified last night. Scotland Yard said the alarm had been raised by a member of the public who spoke to a police officer on a cordon at the junction of Birchin Lane and Cornhill in the City.

The police was so vicious yesterday, unbelieveable

Why is it geneally assumed these protestors are innocent of the beatings they sometimes receive at the hand of police? I'm sure some of these people asked for it. Not all protestors are of the non-violent persuasion.

I was there and i agree, a tiny tiny minority of protestors were 'asking for it' but i saw police kicking and hitting ENVIROMENTAL protestors - They're like freaking pacifists and riot police was surrounding them

The police crossed the line and they provoked the protestors to attack. They have no one but themselves to blame

My side is killing me, i was trapped in for over 8 hours next to the bank of england - The police refused to let anyone out :(

Well I am certainley sure the police do wrong at times, but from the outsiders perspective, it seems people lately are jumping on the police as perpetrators all the time. I was talking with someone yesterday about these riots and they know whats going on as much as me, and they assumed the cops were just systematically beating everyone down. As for me, I figure there is always a little bit of both going on at the same time. Some people have it coming.

At times?
This is British police ... when are they ever in the right?

They are the ones who hyped this and caused the riots. I blame them, they trapped us for hours and i mean hours. I was there from 12 in the afternoon till 9 at night ffs.
You will piss people off by doing that and they picked on this group of girls who was sitting down drinking beer and arrested them for reasons beyond me which angered the crowd and led to the police being attacked -Even the legal observer was surprised

Let's all just thank God the police didn't have guns - Phew. Judging by what they did to de menezes they would probably have opened fire :p

Eco retards are not always peaceful.Does E.L.F and A.L.F ring a bell?Does eco-terrorist ring a bell?

The police crossed the line and they provoked the protestors to attack.
How did they cross the line and provoke scum(when people start to vandalize property, assault people and riot they stop being protesters)?

They have no one but themselves to blame

You sound like these pieces of **** who would honor a child rapist and cop killer.
Calling him a 'true hero', mourners hold vigil for suspected Oakland cop killer Lovelle Mixon

And you sound like a retard who has no idea what happened. STFU and leave it for those who actually understand what happened to talk.

No enviromental protestor damaged property, that was the financial protestors. The enviromentals were the most peaceful and caused no trouble until the riot police showed up and started chucking people around.

Who the **** are these eco terrorists? Are you making things up?

One part of me thinks the police should have Tasered them all. Or bashed their heads in. All of 'em.

Another part of me is more reasonable.

Such a pity that police are restricted and restrained.

I don't trust them with batons, let alone tasters, gas and guns. They are much too immature with it. They'd probably overuse it

And nothing of value was lost.

And the result would be?

Apparently you are the retard who has no idea what the **** she is talking about to even suggest that econuts are passive and can not be violent.

STFU and leave it for those who actually understand what happened to talk.

If you were there then you should be able to give your version of what happened, not pictures of what someone else posted on the internet. Again I will ask how did these police cross the line and provoke scum? Considering your anti-law enforcement rhetoric and hatred one has to wonder what police actions you consider crossing the line and provocation.

You expect us to believe that somehow these people were just sitting around minding their own damn business and the mean ol police officers with nothing else better to do decided to just beat up some people for the **** of it in front of **** loads of tv cameras and protesters?

Who the **** are these eco terrorists?

Are you making things up?

Did you all hear about the crowd that dressed up as police and arrived in a faux riot van? I can only imagine what they intended to do, and I think it's fair to say that they were there to paint the police in a bad light.

Absolutely, and there were hundreds of others also there.

The enviromental protestors no less! That was disgusting, if it was the BOE one, that is understandable despite the fact i was trapped. There was people there causing trouble but the enviromental protestors did NOTHING to warrant such police activity and the legal observers who oversee this was trapped with us and was not allowed to leave

You can't assault people merely for association, assembly, and protest. Suggesting it is sick.

I suppose the police busted out windows?

So are you actually going to discuss the topic, or are you just going to keep posting more hand-selected pictures of the big bad policemen hurting the poor wittle protesters who were TOTALLY JUST SITTING THERE when the cops decided to ATTACK them oh noes

?

I suppose the police busted out windows?

I said that? *looks back at post*

Don't ask ridiculous questions, and the damaging of RBS happened because bankers was waving money outside of their wondows goading the stupid teens in black. What did they expect?

See the jackbooted thugs. They even harm their own. Those innocent protesters didn't have an agenda. The police caused all the riots because they wanted to get their pictures in the papers and on the Web. You know how police are, they're publicity hounds.

Lets discuss the topic lol

Police brace for more violence as world leaders gather
Police in London are bracing themselves for more violent G20 protests today following yesterday's demonstrations during which almost 90 people were arrested and one man died of a suspected heart attack.

Detectives in charge of the policing operation have warned there could be more clashes between officers and protesters as the summit begins at the ExCel Centre in east London this morning.

About 4,700 officers – including public order teams, intelligence gatherers and diplomatic security specialists – will be on duty today in the capital.

Police guarding the ExCel Centre appear to be taking few chances, with officers manning barriers and checkpoints around the security perimeter, conducting full body searches and turning back anyone without accreditation within a half-mile radius.

Several groups are planning to converge on the centre, including the Youth March for Jobs and the Stop the War coalition

On another news, what do people think the G20 summit will achieve?
I think it will do nothing to solve the global crisis although reporters are saying tax havens are going to be stopped and the bankers salaries will be affected

Photos of people being arrested is not proof of police abuse.

To balance it out, police were also injured.

Typical police hating rhetoric. You sound like the scum who held a vigil for a child molester and cop killer and called him a hero.
