A.I.G. executives face scorn, even at their homes

umm, you seem to be forgetting that it was the last eight... hell, the last 28 years of republican policies that brought us to this point. Not Frank or Pelosi. I understand why you'd want to forget that part.

Really? Cuz I seem to remember Clinton being in there for 8 of those years and I'm pretty sure he was a democrat.

And they were right on in doing so...

I'm looking at some property in BC. Sorry to slap you in your jingoism but I think Canada is a better country.

Well by all means, I won't stand in your way if you intend to decrease the irrational hysterics in this country by one more. ;)

Well since no law was broken then... I think this is the argument your kin has used with regards to the Bush admin.

Nobody is arguing that a law was broken. Catch up to the discussion.

It's called enabling isn't it? Is that anything like when our military or intel agencies torture someone? The Bush admin called it enhanced interrogation techniques...

This might be the worst analogy I've ever heard. How on earth do you compare the two?

But didn't those people do those things?
Shouldn't they be stood up and shamed, at the VERY least?

Do you know for a fact that every person at AIG getting a bonus affirmatively took actions to do those things? So why demonize them all?

And they were right on in doing so...

I'm looking at some property in BC. Sorry to slap you in your jingoism but I think Canada is a better country.

I just thought of this. He was a DINO like a RINO...oh man I crack myself up.

I don't agree with the threatening of thi families one bit, but to blame it on the government is idiotic.

The government did not run AIG into the ground. The government did not give AIG the leadership that caused this. AIG came to the government with their hands out asking for TAXPAYERS money.

The government only brought to light what these guys were doing.

The people that are threatening these families are idiots as well, but then so are the ones blaming the government.

But it was okay for politicians (the big winners being Dodd, Obama, and friends) to have their hands out for $100k political donations to their campaigns. It's funny how Dodd manages to leave the language in the bill that allows the bonuses and he then rails along with other democrats of the evils of the bonuses... when he got the biggest political bonus from AIG.

No populace in the history of humans has ever responded like this.
I'm so shocked and surprised. I was born yesterday.

And no politician in the history of humans has ever said nonsense to cover their ass. That's just unheard of.

Imagine, a populace outraged at catastrophe, in which they bear the largest burden in relation to the wealthy who profited and helped create the catastrophe, and congress people that supported it and want it both ways. Entirely new to the human experience, of that I'm sure.

We should record this in history so we'll learn from it, because apparently it's the first lesson of this kind in history, and humans always learn from history.

Are you seriously trying to compare our current form of government to Nazi Germany?

If you don't see the parallels that Zimmer and others have provided on DP, then you are truly in denial.

Everyone should check out this link to see where we're headed if the last 2 months of "change" is an indication of our future. I met a native Venezuelan who was forced to leave his homeland - Venezuela's loss was the U.S's gain. When I met him several years ago he told me "Don't believe that it (the power swing to the Chavez oligarchy) can't happen in the United States!" Now, he looks to be a prophet!

I don't really get what you're trying to say, but I like the way you said it.

I dunno. I think Obama's trying his hardest. His "inexperience" was more than just a cliche. I hope he's learning. I'd like to think that in a year's time we'll start to see some stronger leadership. The problem is we have a Democrat president and a Congress dominated by Democrats. This kind of imbalance always leads to problems. I think a few key Senators are going to lose their seats in the upcoming elections (Frank, Pelosi, Dodd). If they don't, that's when I'm going to really start to worry.

You might be right as to Obama's goals... only time will tell. Does he still hold the radical views that were evident from most of his past associations? Hopefully not! But the future of our country could never be determined by one man or woman... it takes many misguided (and some evil) individuals who successfully pull the wool over the eyes of those who would allow themselves to be fooled! Many of us will watch with skepticism, hoping to educate those who will listen.

Well, I know religion has a profound effect on one's world view and thus his political leaning. Hopefully as he grows in experience he will become aware of the vastly more complex reality of the situation. I think he has the country's best interests in mind. I'd like to see the "real" Obama though. Every time I see him speak it seems so scripted; so dispassionate. He needs to be rallying and inspiring people to unite and work together. The true power of a president transcends his executive role.

I'll repeat this one since it's been brought up recently.

The Nazi example was to illustrate governments can incite the masses.

Had Congress simply kept their mouths shut and lived up to the law they wrote and signed up to there would be no outrage.

This is of their own fabrication. 100% of it.

They are responsible for inciting the outrageous behavior these AIG employees are on the receiving end of.

As for the Gestapo bit. They are pinpointing private individuals and making minced meat of them.

Their propagandists are neglecting the real story and fueling the fire.

And all of this was at the insistence of Congress.
They wrote the law allowing AIG loans.

How can anyone feel safe from these people?
They write law, and then castigate, using the full weight of the Federal Government.

I don't find much funny or tolerable about this.
I think the Founding Fathers would find this pretty incredible.
A government of the people, by the people, and for the people?

This is not a government of the people, and not for the people.

.

Who's poor behavior? Yours? Mine? Dodds? Bush's? Obama's? Cheney's? AIG execs? New AIG execs? The tour guide? The tour people? the general populace? The human race? The lenders? The predatory lenders? The over-extended home buyers? The home owners who didn't stick to their loan obligations? Greenspan? Franks? The apathetic populace who loved their 401Ks rising but never once complained about finance should not be such a growing industry? Let's get together and throw some stones....at who again?

I can't find a single bit of sense in the OP.

1. Politicians are perverting the general populace (who is apparently otherwise a bunch of little angles who sit around all day kissing babies if it were not for the evil dems)?

OMG, congress was a bastion for all that is good and holy before DEMOCRATS got the majority! No really.

2. Mad at politicians because they are spouting nonsense and covering their ass?

Who's bad behavior again? And which topic has merit to debate? Please, by all means let's get down to the SERIOUS topic at hand....

BreaKING NEWS:
The media blows everything up into news to make news!
Politicians act like politicians, reliably!
The general populace is prone to violent outbursts when they are suckered!

HOLY CRAP. This thread is now REALLY legitimate, it has Nazi references now!

So then basically, you were being a sarcastic boor and had nothing of real value to contribute except your confusion over the phrases "surprised by" and "outrage over" the behavior of everyone involved.

kthanx.

Suckers have fallen for their shift the blame game.A million dollars is a **** a load of money, and a lot of Americans not living where the cost of living is absurdly high can live off a million dollars for the rest of their lives. However compared to the multi hundred billion dollar bailouts and the billions of dollars those in office gave to other countries a million dollars is chump change. If Americans should be pissed about anything it should be over the bailouts themselves, the foreign aid and other pork.

Specifically going after innocent private citizens.
Citizens they OK'd the money they received.

Can you give me a similar occurrence?

HOLY CRAP. This thread is now REALLY legitimate, it has Nazi references now!
Again, go back and read the original reference.
Someone claimed the government isn't responsible for inciting the stupidities the AIG folks have to endure.

As is... the Nazi's and their propagandists had no responsibility for inciting the citizens?

It pointed out the folly of the original statement.

I didn't make it, but it's broccoli, and I love it!

This is simply history repeating itself. For a long time we have had a group of wealthy executives who have been vastly overpaid and incompetent. They justified their greed by claiming that they were just paid on their good performance. The shortsightedness led to to ruin and took the economy down with them. Now, even after they clearly have shown how incompetent they are, they still ask for the same money. The common man has been now sees that merit based pay is a sham and it pisses them off. To make things worse, we are in a major depression, which makes them all the more desperate and angry.

These are the classic signs of revolution. History has shown many examples when the populace decided that the current system is so corrupt its not even worth trying, and turn to violence and destruction. All the requirements are in place: massive wealth inequality, a totally corrupt government (bi-partisan support for the bailout) and economic catastrophe. The bonuses are simply the modern form of "let them eat cake".

I doubt that the people are going to be storming the bastille anytime soon, but that is the direction we are heading down. These threats are simply a taste of what happens if we don't restore the publics faith in the system.

This is simply history repeating itself. For a long time we have had a group of wealthy executives who have been vastly overpaid and incompetent.

Can you tell me, in your infinite wisdom, how much an executive who manages a company of 10's of thousands of people and billions of dollars is worth? Don't you think the board of directors would be a bit peeved if they felt the executives were being over compensated?

They justified their greed by claiming that they were just paid on their good performance. The shortsightedness led to to ruin and took the economy down with them. To make things worse, we are in a major depression, which makes them all the more desperate and angry.

So you're saying that the economy crashed because of executive compensation? I don't think they "asked" for money. The company was contractually obliged to pay them. You don't like merit based pay? Are you of the opinion that every job, no matter how hard, should be paid the same amount?

I'm afraid you inhabit a fantasy world.

I doubt that the people are going to be storming the bastille anytime soon, but that is the direction we are heading down. These threats are simply a taste of what happens if we don't restore the publics faith in the system.

I hope not.
