Pelosi says House Dems blameless in AIG scandal

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) kicked blame for the insertion of a provision allowing for AIG bonuses to go forward to the White House and the Senate on Thursday morning, saying House Democrats bore no responsibility for the bonus language at the center of the AIG storm.

The revelation that the $787 billion economic stimulus bill included language paving the way for AIG to award executive bonuses — which totaled $165 million and have caused an uproar in Washington and across the country — came to forefront of the debate on Wednesday.

And on Wednesday Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, said his own executive compensation limitation language was substituted for looser language at the behest of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

Asked to explain what her understanding was of how the looser language came to pass through Congress, Pelosi pointed back at the Senate and the Obama White House.

“This is Senate-White House language,” Pelosi said, referring to the now-radioactive provision. “That is what we are talking about here.

“If you want to talk about what happened in the Senate, go to the Senate and talk to them,” she added.

Correct me if I am wrong, but for legislation to make it to the President’s desk, the house has to pass it.

So, in ramming the bill through the House, over objection that no one had time to read it, were Nancy and the House Dems complicit, or simply neglectful?

She is so full of ****, she must think we're all stupid.

The Democrats are not blameless, they signed the bailout package. And whoever else signed it is also to blame.

Stolen from an e-mail sent to me...

Of course, the President can hardly be expected to notice everything, what between his late-night comedy appearances, his $500K book deals, and his NCAA bracket wonking on ESPN.

They scream for it to be passed.

This is what they deemed as critical "stimulus".

And these Marxists are screaming about a trickle compared to what they have pissed away.
A trickle.

Democrats are screaming because this is what they believe the Public wants them to do, rather like in a theatre the comedian plays to the audience.
The Public are screaming because they see nothing in it for them as well as having an intense dislike of people who broke AIG being subsequently rewarded.
As has already been stated the Bail out stimulus Bill was rushed through Congress with very few people other than those who wrote it, having the time to be able to read the Bill in it's entirety.
Fortunately for those citizens who may have long memories, in districts where an incumbent will be seeking re election in 2010 may be able to unseat those who supported this Bill.

However it is my experience that the Public have short memories, so probably nothing will upset the status quo.

The Court Jesters.

This is where the role of the press should come in to present cold facts, ask hard questions and put an end to the Bull**** parade.

Instead they pour fuel on the fire.

Congress is viewed as a joke right now. People like Pelosi are the reason why.

She is a walking asshat, with ovaries!

The Press such as it is, panders to the body politic.

Given the nature of how bills are crafted and then processed, it's quite feasible that the House voted the bill onto the Senate without the bonus language in it. Then the Senate sends it to committee, inserts the bonus language, it goes back to a conference committee where members of the House and Senate settle on the new language, the Senate passes it, it's enrolled, and then the President signs it.

The House may have had nothing to do at all to do with the insertion of the language, but may have agreed to it simply because the Senate (under pressure from the White House) wanted in there in order to go ahead and pass it. In that case the House can throw the Senate under the bus and say "hey, it was their idea, not ours, we had to get the bill passed." The House could have said "no way" in which case the bill may have never made it back out of conference committee and died, who knows?

Pelosi is just trying to be clever about it and failing. It's pretty transparent what she is doing.
