Obama: Economic crisis 'not as bad as we think'

I suppose you could do, that's your problem, not mine. I thought you were a liberal, ya know, tolerance and diversity... guess that just if I agree with you eh?

Without a doubt I believe in diversity, and tolerance thereof, but I am a grammar Nazi--from hell and such.

Wrongo!

It's an articulate teleprompter reading ability.

Even in the early episodes of the "West Wing" (circa 1999) the President used a teleprompter. This is not news, and it makes you look nothing more than a fool if you are going to press this issue.

I don't know. I have a lot more respect for a person who writes their own speech or at least studies it extensively beforehand. The way he reads from the teleprompters and never looks at the audience is almost disconcerting. When he's not looking at the teleprompter, we're looking up his nose and his use of hoity-toity language makes him look even more like a snob, at least in my eyes. I've also yet to see a speech which exudes passion. It all just seems so... scripted.

Welcome to American politics. Of course it is highly scripted, otherwise we might just have that bloody exchange of powers. Everything we see on T.V. is carefully planned to present a certain image of the candidate and of the system itself. You will not find many Presidents who will write their own speech. Not because they are not intelligent, or articulate people, but because their whole division of communications has a duty to present the President, because every single word that comes out of the Presidents mouth will be highly scrutinized. It is a sad state of affairs that our Presidents, when in front of a camera, has to go into a robot mode, being fed text. But, that has become the entertainment and entertaining principles that our system now follows; if that mother-****er doesn't sound or look smart, then I am going to be infuriated.

Three letters: J.F.K. He was the last good speaker. He actually had ideals and you could feel his passion when he spoke. The difference is he actually cared. Edit: notice he has speaking notes rather than a script.

It means he doesn't know what he's going to say until he reads it form the teleprompter.

Oh I'm sure he has a general idea but I have never seen a President or frankly any world leader that is so reliant on reading a teleprompter as he is.

He never stops reading it...you can tell simply by the fact he never says anything past a sentence without reading it directly form the teleprompter.
Majority of people will stop looking at their notes or teleprompter while speaking because they KNOW what they are saying.

That cartoon I posted highlights the problem.. I have no doubt whatsoever that if you put that line in a speech (...and didn't highlight it) he'd say it before realizing what he said.

"y'all" already sounds terrible. If you are going to write or type it, at least conjugate it properly.

What do you mean it sounds terrible? I think it is cool. I think the dialect diversity of the US is part of its cultural richness - whether it be my native rural New England dialect or variations of the Southern dialect.

Oh my God, can you guys please dispense with this pity party already? This isn't the ****ing "teleprompter thread," it's "Economic Crisis Not As Bad Thread." Seriously, you all sound like a bunch of jealous high school girls.

:rofl

I just get a kick of how bad the "crisis" was when he was running for president and Bush was in the Oval Office, but just a couple of months later (when by all measures the situation is WORSE than it was a few months ago) he says the crisis isn't really that bad.

This has nothing to do with him being President Teleprompter and more to do with intellectual dishonesty.

Yeah because the Bush's, Clinton, Reagan, Carter, Nixon...they sure were all honest. But Obama, he's different because he's saying things the American public doesn't believe or that are contrary to what he said when he was campaigning.

Is this threat about Bush, et. al.? No. This thread is about a man who campaigned on "Change."

I just don't understand what good would come from Obama saying "we're soooooooooooo ****ed. We're all responsible, but the Gov't and the Stock Marketeers should be the ones who are getting beaten senseless. It's not the people's fault that they believe everything they hear and just "love" trusting the markets with their money."

Oh, he's changing the country alright. In a few years, we're all going to be sitting on a street corner "hoping for change." Thanks a lot, Obama.

Unfortunately, this mess is taking much of the rest of the world down with the US. :( Our own president made economic promises that were unrealistic in the BEST of times - and now, the economy here is even worse than in the US.

No. I didn't vote for Obama. No way can I look like a fool.

It's one thing to use teleprompters for major speeches, quite another to have to rely on them for basic day-to-day speaking.

What is it, he can't keep track of his own ideas, or he can't keep track of what his masters tell him his ideas are supposed to be?

You people made fun of Rove controlling Bush...who the hell is feeding the Obama-puppet his lines?

If he can't deliver speeches without a teleprompter, he's not articulate.

I'm sorry. Could you explain to me how "we're all" responsible? I, for one, would laugh when I heard those advertisements "0-down adjustable rate mortgage! No credit? NO PROBLEM! No job? NO PROBLEM! No assets? NO PROBLEM!" If you couldn't tell those mortgages were a scam, there's something seriously wrong with you. I didn't set the interest rate on treasury bonds to 1%. I didn't go out selling ****ty mortgages or buying millions of them on leverage.

You mean like "Obama lied and the economy died"?

Nothing like that of course. However, interesting that he was talking down the economy as a candidate and while the economy is WORSE now, he is telling us it isn't so bad. While I am doing fine, I have a lot of friends who are not doing well on both sides of the Pacific. Tell THEM the economy isn't so bad.

No this thread has turned into a thread about people acting jealous school girls..."oh my God Becky, Obama's butt is soooo fat."

The economy will recover. All he needs to do is step back and leave it alone! In the meantime, he can work on CUTTING spending and then when we're in better shape he can start CUTTING taxes. But why should we do that? DEBT IS WEALTH! :doh

I'm sorry. I can't even see the man's name anymore without being reminded of how much he is lacking in fundamental leadership skills. It's disgraceful.
