I think you guys are thinking to into this military naval stuff, have you guys not remembered we liberated China from Japan?
Seriously, I doubt they would forget that quickly how we saved there behinds, if you don't know what happen here is a short comic explaining.
America was fighting proxy wars in China before WWII, by giving the KMT tanks and other foreign technology to fight the rise of Communism. Fueling that war contributed to the deaths of millions. Furthermore, the U.S. was part of the imperial ransacking of China pre-WWI, along with the unequal treaty system (see: Treaty of Wangxia).
Furthermore, it is an exaggeration to say that the U.S. was trying to save China. It was simply trying to end the Pacfic conquest of Japan that threatened its shores. Japan's forces being weakened and therefore pulling out of China as a result was just a benficial byproduct of Japan's multi-front war.
