This is who they pick????

 I thought knighthood was only for English citizens. Well, not my business.

Now they've made knighthood worthless, just like the Nobel Prize.

I didn't think knights left women to die while they went home to sleep off their drunken stupors. The Queen has lowered her standards.

This act is rather pointless.

Just another move by Brown to further US-UK relations.

What a waste of time <_<

The same Queen that gave Mugabe an award some years ago, before again revoking it some time later.

Who cares who this woman thinks is "worthy" of receiving her knighthood? It's like saying we should care what the Pope thinks on political issues in such-and-such country. They are monarchs of an old, dead order.

The Queen is a lower standard.

For what? trying to usurp the colonies by drowning its citizens? He only got one....

The image of a long sabre heading towards Kennedy's booze soaked skull is delightful nevertheless.

Well he only had an Oldsmobile.

Here's the fatass trying to divert another vehicle off the road.

The Queen doesn't actually choose who is knighted.

This is New Labour's choice and what do you expect from them?
Thanks. I didn't know this.
Does the Queen perform the act, and if so, can she refuse to preform it?

I think giving it to Kennedy is wrong and actually cheapens the Honor, but of course that is just my opinion.
Do you think he deserves it by England's standards?

But then again, did Colin Powell actually deserve the Honor by England's standards?

Excuse me, before you rant at my monarch you should probably remember:

The Queen does not make the choices, the PM does.

It is Brown who is to blame not her.

You are Canadian and you have some connection with the Royal family but it is looser one and it your choice is you want to support it. In Britain we are very attached to such ancient institutions and we don't take kindly to such attacks. The Queen is certainly a hell of a lot better than President Blair. We certainly care what the monarch thinks, she is the simple of our nation.

One of my favorite Kennedy stories:

Back in the late eighties, I think -- Senator Kennedy is vacationing off the coast of the south of France and he's got a young nubile, very limber and flexible young woman with him, scantily clad in a nice bikini.

We know this because paparazzi were taking pictures from neighboring boats, and the New York Daily News published the pictures, and there were a series of four pictures.

The first picture shows them cavorting out there on the boat.

The second picture shows us the scantily clad, nubile, very flexible and limber young woman diving in the water off the edge of the boat.

The next picture showed Senator Kennedy jumping in after her -- which was a first for Senator Kennedy to go in the water after a woman -- and then the last picture showed them back in the boat making... uh, "having intimacies," let's say.

The pictures made the rounds, and they showed them to Howell Heflin, a Senator from Alabama.

He was a huge guy, and he looked at the picture and said in his brusque voice, "Well, I do declare! Ha! Why, it do look to me like Senator Kennedy done changed his position on offshore drilling."

Read Article I, sec. 9 of the Constitution. Unless Congress agrees to it in a vote, then Kennedy's acceptance of Knighthood is unconstitutional.

Interesting. I consider myself pretty familiar with the text of the Constitution, but that passage never even occurred to me when I heard about this story. It looks like you are correct. I'm sure Congress will agree to it though.

Here is the relevant text, for anyone interested:
No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.

How very interesting!!! I didn't know that !

Except it doesn't prevent Honorary Titles because they lack the obligations that the Constitutional bar is intended to prevent.
Ask Colin Powell about his.
