Deputy Accused of Using Excessive Force on Teen Girl.

Saturday, February 28, 2009
Associated Press

SEATTLE — A King County sheriff's deputy kicks a 15-year-old girl, slams her to the floor of a jail cell, strikes her and pulls her hair in violence captured on videotape.

Prosecutors released the surveillance video in Friday in the assault case against Deputy Paul Schene, who is accused of using excessive force on the girl.

The footage shows the attack beginning after the girl enters the cell at suburban SeaTac City Hall and kicks off one of her shoes toward the deputy.

Normally I don't really get to wrapped around the axle over articles alleging police abuse. But this one is just sickening. This 15 year old girl is basically just standing ther, probably running her mouth like troubled kids tend to do, and then kicks her shoes off out the cell door (probably after being ordered to do so). What follows is a full on assault that is completely unwarranted. If that had been my daughter, in jail for auto theft or not, and this happened...I would seriously struggle with whether or not to find this asshole show him just how protective I am.

Scumbags like this make it so hard for the good cops out there to catch a break.

OK, that was a bit much, to say the least. Her "kicking" off her shoe, was barely kicking and I cannot comprehend how it warranted that response. I have a lot of respect for the police, and believe that the good cops far, far outnumber the bad ones. This was an example of a bad one. He should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

The deputy's explanation is that he was assaulted by her kicking her shoes off and he was protecting himself from further assault. As this ferocious 15 year old girl who didn't once even manage to protect herself was punched in the face while she lay on the ground subdued and then he picked her up by her ****ing hair!

I would hope he goes to prison, but he most likely will not.

Assaulted?!!! Protecting himself?!!! He's got to be kidding. What police academy training taught him to act like that? When I trained people at the hospital in TPI, I always taught that if you were assaulted or afraid of being assaulted, and had the ability to close and lock a door, do it; that way there is much less of a chance that anyone would be injured. I would assume that police regulations would be somewhat similar. Closing and locking the cell door eliminates the threat of assault.

He just got mad and wanted to beat her ass a bit. He should go to jail, but you are probably right...he won't.

Problem is, even the bad ones get protected by the establishment. The district attorneys, the police, even the local government, they all protect each other.

I predict a slap on the wrist and a return to duty.

I hope you also predict a hefty civil suit from the girl and her parents that leaves the bad cop working for her for the rest of his life. Pension and all.

Goddamn.

I can't feel too sorry for her though, she'll be raking it in soon enough no doubt.

Really?

It's one thing to surround and beat down an innocent 200 pound minority male. It's quite another to beat up a 15 year old white girl and get caught by your own cameras.

The self-defense bit won't work and the public will be outraged by this like never before, that's my prediction.

If they just give this clown a slap on the wrist it will make the jobs of the good cops hard for a generation. It's leniency on guys like this that lead to bigger problems.

Throw him in general population for a year .. that's punishment enough!

The cop who attacked the girl needs to lose his badge and do some hard time. The 2nd cop needs to lose his badge and his pension.

I hope the primary cop serves 50 years for assaulting a minor.

I predict that cop will be unemployed and that the girl he victimized will be very wealthy.

Only if the system actually serves the people.

With that video evidence .... action will be taken. There is no avoiding it now.

That deputy flushed his career down the toilet.

Wow, that was seriously over the top.

Normally when you see videos of police brutality, it's often after they just wrapped up a car chase that went on for ten miles and causing a zillion dollars in accidents along the way. Does that make it right for the cops to subsequently beat them? No, not in the least. But at the same time....I get it.

The beating in this video was so outrageously unwarranted that my only reaction is plain astonishment.

Things like this make my blood boil. I want the assaulting officer thrown in a ring with two UFC fighters while his associate sits outside the cage in a cheerleading uniform like the scared little bitch that he is.

The 2nd cop was a trainee during the incident, I doubt he even had any pension to begin with.

I'm not sure what the girls crime was, maybe she had killed other officers or something in her act of auto theft. It could have been something personal to the cop.

I'm not suggesting that this would justify his actions, but I would understand if that was the case. It's obvious that this guy lost his cool and took it out on the girl. I would be interested in why.

She looks black, or mixed to me.

Here's another article towards the end that tells he is the 3rd deputy to be charged with excessive force since 06, and he's been under investigation at least two other times. 2 were shooting related, and another one was when he used excessive force(imagine that) with a female motorist. If this guy serves a yr in prison he is lucky to only get that.

Beating caught on police video

Yeah, if only we could hold the police to the same level they hold us. Though it seems as if they police don't so much like video cameras these days because a lot of them are capturing their actions and the public as a whole is finally starting to see how the cops act.

This video footage is indeed unbelievable and way harsh but this jerk's actions do not in any way reflect the actions of all cops. Generally speaking, most cops are law-abiding family men/women who do a hard job that not everyone appreciates. This guy is a probably just a jailer on a power trip. Bad combination. Also, police LOVE video cameras! It makes doing their job that much easier and virtually alleviates "my word over yours".

(most) Cops Rule !!!! God bless them all!!!

Correction, they are seeing how a relative few cops act.

Well said. While the video is disgusting, it's not surprising.

Domestic violence is a staggering 40% among law enforcement officers. When they beat the hell out of their wife & kids, then there's no reason why they should treat anyone in their custody any different.

Domestic Violence in Police Families

The feigned outrage by some is laughable at best, they're fooling no one.

The scumbag is being paid not to work RIGHT NOW. Free money and vacation for someone who beat up a little girl. YES WE CAN.
The guy is going to get a maximum of 1 year.
The man also shot a mentally ill man who had no weapon a few years ago.

If a cop did this in public I think I wouldn't be able to hold my self and have to assault him to stop the beating of a little girl. I just hope the court would believe me that it needed to be done. *Jail door slams :(

If I was the trainee cop that watched it all I would have instead tazered the cop. And made him cry. And kept tazing him even though he was crying. This is why we need a national Bad Apple law that gives cops double the time compared to people not in a position of power for the same law.

Let me tell you something, you need to drop the domestic violence accusations towards me upstairs. You wanna talk your stupid smack in the Basement do it, but this isn't appropriate. Further, your whole bull**** line of accusing me of beating my wife and kids is complete lie that you proliferated off of me saying I'd pimp slap you or someone else as a joke in the Basement. You wanna spread this fertilizer of yours kid, do it in downstairs.
