White House dampens stimulus expectations

WASHINGTON (Reuters)- President Barack Obama's aides warned Americans on Sunday not to expect instant miracles from the $787 billion economic stimulus bill he will sign this week, but said it would help eventually.

"I don't think there's any doubt that we've seen this economy has gotten worse just in the last few months. The acceleration in job loss probably means that this economy is going to get worse before it gets better," he said.

Obama himself said last week that if he failed to heal the economy, he would be out of a job by 2012, when he faces re-election.

Obama faces a new potential flashpoint next week when two Detroit automakers, General Motors Corp and Chrysler LLC, must reach agreements with the United Auto Workers labor union to restructure themselves.

Talks between GM and the union broke down on Saturday. Chrysler's negotiations with the UAW are also deadlocked.

Axelrod made it clear the White House would not intervene in the situation until after Tuesday.

I find it funny that we "must" pass the stimulus bill immediately even though it won't supposedly have an effect for months.
So much for catastrophe.

I think Obama is going to capitalize on the economy turning itself around.
I think he knows that is how it works as well.

Republicans better watch out because chances are good it will, whether are not the stimulus was passed.

My predictions for our next election at the moment is Obama wins.

I am not sure about that. Talked to my brother, who is an investment broker. He says that things are going to get worse, but there should be an uptick in the third quarter. But, at that time, we should expect inflation to rear its ugly head.

I can see it happening that way but most people don't have a clue of what inflation is.
People on welfare programs can of set it with their handouts as well.

Ask anyone what inflation is and them to explain it.

You can wait for the glazed over look to set in.

According to what I heard on both Meet the Press and Fox News Sunday, 77% of the stimulus isn't going to be spent until 2010. That being the case, any potential immediate impact will be minimal.

Inflation has always been with us, however there was a definite uptick in 2008.
There will inevitably be yet more upticks both in 2009, 2010,2011,2012.
Every time the value of the US $ falls there is an automatic rise in inflation.
For this reason it should have been an imperative of the Obamanomics administration to have taken steps to raise the value of US currency.
Unfortunately they have chosen to go with Pelosinomics and send it downhill, I expect it to shortly join with the likes of Zimbabwe currency in the dustbin of history as yet another experiment that failed.
