Republicans Shut Out of Stimulus Conference Negotiations

Republicans Shut Out of Stimulus Conference Negotiations - HUMAN EVENTS

Republicans have caught the Democrats in a midnight “stimulus” power play that seeks to cut Republican conferees out of the House-Senate negotiations to resolve a final version of the Obama “stimulus” package. Staff members from the offices of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) met last night to put together the “stimulus” conference report.

They intend to attempt to shove this $1.3 trillion spending bill through in the dead of the night without Republican input so floor action can take place in both chambers on Thursday.

I say good.

Because when porkzilla passes, then causes the recession to become much worse, The Democrats and there new spirit of hostility will have no one to point a finger at to blame.

What idiots.

So much for this new tone Obama was going to bring to Washington.

Republicans are playing this pretty riskily.
If this bill is even remotely a success, then they are going to have a damn hard time finding their seats in a few years.

Wait, I shut the door in your face and wont let you in. Is that your fault?

They're doing what they should be doing - objecting to all of the unnecessary and unrelated fecal matter in the bill.

It's called check-and-balance, and I support it on both ends of the spectrum.

Well . . .

Whoever gets the credit or the blame, I've heard for many years that this isn't the way things are supposed to be done in Washington.

But I get it now . . . it's just not the way Republicans are supposed to do it. The Democrats can do anything they want.

And again . . . this is the Democrats' Patriot Act.

I was just musing over the entire ordeal as a whole.

It appears to me that Republicans really want the stimulus package to fail, as they are putting as many marbles they can find into the coffer to dump President Obama.

This instance is just another showing of Nancy as a horrible congresswoman.

She is an embarrassment to the Democratic party.

First off, it's not a stimulus package, because it's all pork. So tell us again what we want to fail.

I agree with everything but that which is in bold.

I think they want A stimulous plan to work, but rightfully so think porkzilla is not a stimulus plan.

Is anyone surprised at this, give the New Era we live in?

More Republican lies.

Republicans from both Houses attended the meetings.

And yoooooou're busted!

Exactly. Republicans found it inconvenient to join the meetings, but met together in a closed room to hatch their own pork. Tax cuts for the rich, now there's an ingenious idea.

"Partisanship" translation for the liberally challenged:

I agree that partisanship is in play, but that works both ways. While Bush was in power, it was a "my way or the highway" approach, and Democrats were constantly shut out of negotiations. Now that Democrats are in power, they don't see why they can't do the same thing.

Having said that, it doesn't make it right. In fact, it is wrong, whether done by Republicans or Democrats, and that is one of the problems with our political system.

Of course, cause you didn't want to play nice with the other children.

Are the politicians children ?
Or, are the children better behaved than this.??
But, rather than crying and complaining, why can''t the Republicans do the same thing ?
Can any of the politicians think for himself ??

Waaaaahhh...

When repubs are in control it's:
"shut up and sit down, we are in charge and you'll do as we decide"

When repubs are NOT in charge it's:
"they won't let us have our way those, nasty democrats"

When Obama became President he stuck his hand through the fence and said "let's work together ok? It's for the good of the country" and then repubs bit that hand. So, now that they've taken a chunk out of the Presidents hand they want to whine that they aren't included in the process and won't do ANYTHING unless they get their way?

I say **** the repubs since THEY have shown that there will be partisan games.

Now, is it reasonable to assume that because the democrats have been told to sit down and shut up for 10 of the last 12 years, including being held at gun point for the last 2 due to obstructionism due to slim majority, does it seem reasonable that democrats might be a little less inclined to put up with republican bull****?

Yeah, that's exactly what the republicans are saying, "Do it our way or else". They seem to forget that they lost big in the last 2 elections. Maybe... just maybe the majority of the country doesn't want it the republican way anymore.

Recall it who it was that made the point about Obama being The One to change the tone in Washington, to usher in a new era of bipartisnaship, to sit down and listen to everone that had ideas -- because solving problems was more important than partisan politics.

"Change" didnt last 2 weeks.

The Democrats consistently tried to reach out on the stimulus plan and the result was a whopping 2 senators voted for it and NO representatives did- after multiple revisions designed to make it more attractive across the aisle.

The Democrats tried, the Republicans weren't interested.

That's what you get when you wont play.

If there was any history on the republican side of the isle that would lead anyone to think that they would play nice if given the opportunity then maybe... But alas, as we saw right off the bat, Obama offered bipartisanship and house repubs, in a unanimous **** you, dug their own hole. Why should you be complaining when your party made the bed it has to lay in?

Um... what was the final vote in the House?
Seems to me the bi-partisan side was AGAINST the bill.

Obama was to change all that. He is The One.

Chnage didnt last two weeks.

I think it's the opposite here only because this will not work. Plain and simple. What will work is a major cut in income taxes, like 35%-45% for two years. Result? Money and not just a George Bush check for ice cream. This puts $$$ back in to everything in this economy on every level.
