Daschle withdraws nomination for HHS job

Ya, it was time for Obama to cut him loose. Unlike Geithner, Daschle isn't irreplaceable. I do think that whoever Obama nominates as health czar to replace Daschle should be a current or former member of Congress with lots of friends on the hill.

Tom Daschale....not a patriot.

I think Biden ought to head the vetting process to make sure these nominees are patriots.

120k now that is a chunk of change:shock:

No one is irreplaceable, especially tax cheats.

Tim Geithner is about as close to irreplaceable as someone could be though. He's absolutely brilliant, and he has lots of experience. I don't know if he'll be able to help turn the economy around, but if anyone can do it, he can. Considering the gravity of the current economic situation, it seems almost petty to hold up his nomination on tax questions.

Daschle, on the other hand, is not irreplaceable. He's a great advocate for health care reform with lots of friends on the hill...but there are plenty of other people who meet those qualifications as well, who hopefully DON'T owe back taxes.

He's obviously not that bright or he's a dishonest man. I think it sends a horrible message that if Americans are important enough, they can circumvent the law. I'm sure there are more upstanding financial gurus in America.

I didn't think Treasury Secretary was to head the economy but to collect and disburse government monies. I suppose that the same thing to Democrats.

Obama really has dropped the ball on vetting his nominees. Cheese and rice!

Tax evasion is a big problem. I see commercials for tax relief companies where people boast of owing 80 grand and settling for 14 grand.

I'll just bet that happens.

Collecting and disbursing government money is a big part of the economy. I wouldn't go so far as to say that he "heads the economy," but he definitely has considerable influence.

Hank Paulson and George Bush are Democrats?

TWO nominees have dropped out for tax reasons; Nancy Killeford(?) also dropped out. That makes THREE with tax problems and one who is under State investigation in New Mexico for possible corruption.

Obama nominees have a problemo with taxes it seems; how ironic that the people who think we don't pay enough in taxes don't pay their own.

Gotta love all this "change" eh?

I don't understand how one can have one standard for Daschle and another for Geithner. The notion that he is irreplaceable is beyond dumb.

No one is irreplaceable and using that as an excuse to have a double standard is specious. This is the change Americans deserved. :rofl

Who do you think should be Obama's Secretary of Treasury?

I thanked you above for your honesty, but I'm thanking you here for the phrase "cheese and rice." I'm going to try to work that into my vocabulary instead of the other. :2wave:

Hillary almost had her own scandal, it's amazing. Has Obama nominated anyone who hasn't had a problem?

Steve Forbes is nowhere close to a match for Obama's political views .....

This is news?

..and has absolutely no qualifications for running the treasury. Try again.

Because you say so; but then, your notion of Secretary of Treasury would be someone who believes in the naive and foolish politics Obama represents thinking that a Government can BORROW go deep into DEBT and PRINT MONEY to get us out of a recession.

They call themselves demoRATS for a reason. The RATS are infested.... Dumbass that I am I actually had a smidgeon of hope even with a rat infested senate congress and whitehouse . I did vote against these turds ,but the other choice wasn`t much better when you concider the fact that the GOP are just a bunch of MONEY WHORES. THIRD PARTY... THIRD PARTY ... THIRD PARTY
