Vatican attacks US abortion move

If I was a member of a church and they excommunicated someone for saying he didn't believe the Nazis used Gas Chambers (the former bishop in question doesn't deny the killing of jews), I'd leave.

He's an idiot nonetheless, don't get me wrong. I don't see how it's any different than someone saying they don't believe our country butchered millions of Natives, and while I find their denial sicking, I don't think God will judge them on it. Though He may have to re-educate a few.

Anyway, I wanted to add that I've only read a few stories concerning this case, and for all I know the Bishop is a hammer skin. If he is really anti-semitic, and raising the issue because he doesn't like Jews, then **** him.

Haha. That would be funny.

Another statement from the ignorant regarding the Church, its teachings, and its history. You have tried this one before Kali. We are onto your tactics.

Who is We? Sounds like some sort of secret club or something.;)

He was FOURTEEN YEARS OLD for goodness sake. He WAS ENROLLED, he didn't join by choice. He refused to attend meetings and his father was also against Nazism. What do you want, a 14-year-old to take a gun to a meeting and start firing?

Another generation, and we won't have to deal with such issues anymore.
Everyone who was alive in that entire era will be dead.
It's been- what, almost seventy years now?

You may not, but I do as do tens of millions of other Americans.

Sorry to derail this discussion, but I think I need to make a statement to ludahai.

Ludahai - Note the part I bolded. You have just inferred that you are an American. I have thrown some rocks your way in the past, saying that what you think doesn't matter because you are Taiwanese. If you are actually an American, even if you are living in Taiwan, then I owe you an apology, and I have no problems making the apology public.

Sorry I acted like an asshole. :)

Now back to the discussion.

I personally could care less what the pope thinks. Obviously there are going to be tons of things that he doesn't agree with. Thankfully we are a government that isn't dictated by a single religious dogma.

Who is "you"? Also, should I hold "you" responsible for what your family or affiliates did hundreds or thousands of years ago?

The Catholic Church isn't like a family or friends etc etc. It's more like a company that refuses to acknowledge it's wrong doings even after it's been proven wrong and even then it takes it so long to apologize for being wrong that nobody really cares anymore because very few people are even aware of what it's talking about. The Catholic Church isn't some constantly changing entity that is not the same today as it was 100 years ago. It is a group that sure, it changes, but most of the time, the changes are so minuscule that the only ones who will notice or care are devout Catholics and historians.

Think about it this way. The Nazi German government sent millions to die. What happened after the fall of Nazi Germany? The new German government was expected to apologize for it's wrong doings. What happened? That's exactly what it did.

When the American government sent Japanese Americans into internment camps what happened after it released them? It apologized, said it was wrong and gave them reparations. What happened after the inquisition? Nothing. The Church, much to the dismay of Catholic revisionists, charged Galileo with heresy. What happened after the Catholic Church was proven wrong and Galileo right? Nothing. It took the church hundreds of years to even apologize for it's mistakes in any shape matter or form.

So what do we have at the end? The same company facing the same issues and refusing to apologize in any shape manner or form for it's wrong doings until long after they've become irrelevant.

Now back to the discussion.

I am a dual citizen, and am Caucasian, not Chinese by race.

Last I heard, even most catholics ignore the pope on birth control issues....
Only a few of the most vocal ones get on the bandwagon about abortion.
People are going to do what they will, and 99.9% will do it even if their religious leaders say it is a sin. He is just a pope, not a dictator...

Maybe then we can have a History Channel instead of a Nazi Channel.

That'll be nice.

That's true. All you ever see on the history channel his hitler and nostradamus.

Then what the hell is the point? If you don't listen to the pope then aren't you just episcopalian?
