Airbus takes top planemaking spot

"We have a backlog of around 3700 orders and we feel we are well posititioned going into 2009 and beyond," a Boeing spokesman told the BBC."

Hmmm I wonder if the strike had anything to do with this. :2wave:

Funny how Boeing can do it without being subsidized by the government.

There's been a lot of news coverage lately about the controversy surrounding the subsidies Airbus receives to develop its airplanes.

The issue is really simple: Boeing assumes full market risk every time we develop a new airplane. Airbus does not.

Boeing is also subsidized, HEAVILY, but better hidden, though the military research programs and so on.
Airbus just did it less well by taking direct state subsidies, while Boeing took more subsidies, but indirectly.

You know there is a whole "war" going on about both companies taking subsidies..?

Anyone else spot the irony?

Boeing has continually protested over launch aid in form of credits to Airbus, while Airbus has argued that Boeing receives illegal subsidies through military and research contracts and tax breaks.

Its simple and easy, both are subsidies.. One can argue a million ways about which is most fair or unfair, but in the end both really are fair compared with each other..

I'm starting a Bus company called Landplane.

That there is almost just beautiful... What a fantastic plane

I do however like the wing shape of the 787.. But the plane is tiny..

The huge one is the a380 while the "little one" on the left is the Boeing 787..

Look how tiny the other ones look..

It is a little more complicated from what I am reading than just "a little less well."

The Boeing subsidy as far as I can tell is for production, not research.

Yep.

Why would you compare a mid range and body jet to something that competes with the 747-400?

It is a much cooler looking jumbo jet.

Its a cool looking plane, but still tiny..

Here is a comparison..

Just look at this monster of a plane.. Looks like a 747-8 on Steroids.

This humongous plane would make quite a bomb.

It can't land many places due to runway lengths and thicknesses.

In the long run, it's a stupid plane. Airports aren't going to remodel for one plane. This means that the use of this plane has a ceiling. Demand is limited.

Let's giggle and watch.

But you are wrong.. all serious international airports are building new runways exclusively for the launch and usage of the a380.. All intercontinental and big airports that want to stay competitive will have to do the same..

The plane is not intended for intra continental travel. Unless its from one edge of the continent to another..
Imagine 1 plane that can carry the same amounts of people from NY to LA as 3 other planes.. Both those airports have runways that can take the a380.
Then you can enjoy flying like this if you take emirates...(mile high club deluxe)

No, it means Europe has better workers. Our military aviation could destroy Airbus.

This is becoming silly and childish already.
Sorry, IMO, the Orientals have the best workers, the Koreans in particular, the Chinese are probably equal..
Europe may well have the best engineers.
We may have the best pilots, and our workers and engineers are excellent....
The world is so competitive, may too much so..

I think in general western people are more lazy and spoiled workers than easterners.
