Bush declares a 'state of emergency' in Washington as cost of Obama's swearing-in cer

Re: Bush declares a 'state of emergency' in Washington as cost of Obama's swearing-in

So Mcdonalds corporate. courtyard marriot, and Imbev makes a shiny nickle, Meanwhile the inner city folks as usual see none.... Not that there is anything inherhently wrong with this, just a little shocked a liberal would be championing this.

Are you suggesting the average citizen will win out because of this mess?

Speaking of mess, how much will it cost to clean up?

Did you skip the part about state taxes?

I'd say in the hundreds of millions(200-300 tops though) once all the counting is done. 2,000,000 people don't show up to an inaugural event just to watch. They buy useless **** like souvenirs, t-shirts, they eat, they stay at hotels, they take bus rides, they take tours of the city etc etc. Anybody who don't see the kind of money this would bring in to the city is blind. I've been to the Montreal Grandprix and have seen first hand the kind of activity that happens in that city when 1,000,000 people show up. Most of them don't even care about F1. They just show up to be in the crowd and look happy. And every year Montrealers prepare for them religiously because of the money they bring with them.

So some more of that wildly successful Keynesian pump-priming, right? Spend $100 million+ of public taxpayers to inaugurate a President so you can generate what you speculate is about a quarter billion dollars?

Why not actually leave that money in our hands to, you know, actually create wealth and jobs with?

Cost in US dollars:

1,464,651.99 USD

now this is just estimate and expected to go higher. So at best a 500,000 profit based on your speculation?

And is that gross sales or tax revenue?

I think I lost you. Are we talking about revenue for the city? Or for the businesses?

Sure. 130 millionUSD/138 million U.S. citizens who pay taxes = 0.94202898550724637681159420289855 cents/citizen.

How much wealth do you generate with 94 cents?

Lets do both.

How much profit do you see businesses making and how do you arrive at that number.

And Revenue for the city, again as above.

I'd about a billion for business if say the spending is about $500 a head.

1,464,651.99 USD

Where did you get that from and through what means?

This isn't even counting the immense amounts of money that people who are already in the city are spending on crap like souvenirs etc etc. Obama's inauguration is already being seen as the Superbowl of inaugurations. Bigger, larger and with more people. Advertisers will want to put their names on every part of the city. This also in my opinion would bring a substantial amount of money to the city. The considerations taken in an inauguration aren't small. Pretty much every little dime gives back a dollar.

WOAH big money dolla.... You think people are going to spend $500 each?

If this is true then there is NO recession.

I guess we will see..... But Historically this has cost DC, not surplussed it.

No. I said the spending will probably amount to $500 a head by the time it's over. Not that every single person there will spend $500. Which isn't unheard of nor even remotely rare for an event of this size.

If this is true then there is NO recession.

$500 is a lot of of money to you? $500 is change for the most part. I doubt that even 10% of the people coming in to see the inauguration haven't already spent that much on preparations to get there.

Okay.

No $500 is not a lot of money for me. However it is for a lot of people if you add in travel costs, hotel, etc, you are up to a grand unless you were counting that.

I would be interested in revisiting this once the numbers are in,

Schlitz, pbr, or keystone?

Re: Bush declares a 'state of emergency' in Washington as cost of Obama's swearing-in

And to think this is the worst economy since when?

Why exactly is placing a hand on the bible and swearing, and a few parties afterwards going to cost 110 million?

Have politicians just given up trying to pretend to be unselfish and non-corrupt?

Re: Bush declares a 'state of emergency' in Washington as cost of Obama's swearing-in

Is there not profound irony that the media is ignoring this while they jumped on George Bush for spending $44 million? But alas, there is NO bias in the mainstream "drive-by" media according to the forum Liberals. :rofl

Question: Did the media really attack Bush for spending $44M?

I ask because I truly don't know. I suspect they didn't since $44M doesn't sound like a whole lot when considering what all is involved. Do you have a link?

Don't worry about it if you don't. 4 years is a long time and the internet is updated often.
