Conyers’s opposition to Gupta is connected to Michael Moore

TheHill.com

Citing a lack of experience, Rep. John Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) is leading an effort to thwart Barack Obama’s expected nomination of CNN’s Sanjay Gupta to become surgeon general.

But there are also indications that Conyers’s opposition is linked to a 2007 public clash between Gupta and the liberal filmmaker Michael Moore.

The House Judiciary Committee chairman doesn’t have a vote, or a formal role, in the anticipated Gupta nomination. Yet, he is lobbying the Senate and the incoming president to reject Gupta.

In a “Dear Colleague” letter on Wednesday, Conyers — a major proponent of universal healthcare — denounced Gupta and asked members to sign a letter to Obama urging the president-elect not to nominate the TV personality.

Conyers is an idiot. To attack an appointment over an argument with that traitor Michael moore? Shame on him.

I am with Obama on this. Appoint Gupta, now I know he went after moore. I like him.

I didn't realize that a fat guy with a camera posed such a threat to you.

I did not realize your need to defend a fat guy with a camera against internet posters was such a calling to you.

I just think it's a bit absurd to the call the guy a traitor. Is he an extreme liberal? Sure. Does he have an obvious agenda and likes to capitalize off of it? Absolutely. It just seems a bit petty and childish to see someone say "Now I like Gupta because he went against Moore, so there!" If you don't like Moore, don't watch his movies.

This is a good reference to see where I amn coming from. But yeah, call me petty and childish while behaving "petty and childish", its cool.

More of our soldiers are dying as a result of Moore and his movie, and America is increasingly being threatened because of Moore's turncoat treachery. By falsely portraying our government in a negative light, as liars and manipulators, as well as our troops as baby killers and torturers, he incites blood-thirsty terrorists to strike at our homeland, our citizens and military personnel in an effort to weaken America's resolve to fight on to victory

Um...did you even see Fahrenheit 9/11? I assume that's the movie you are referring to. It's chock full of manipulation and agenda, but not once does he attack the troops or call them "baby killers" or "torturers". He mainly goes after politicians, particularly Conservatives. Like I said, he has a clear partisan agenda, but don't just start making up crap.

And how is criticizing your post petty and childish? I'm not the one who feels threatened by a fat man with a camera who makes stupid politically driven movies.

And even if he did make some offhanded comment calling the troops baby killers and criticized the hell out of them, it still doesn't make him a traitor. It's called freedom of speech.

Cool, how about the actual topic. What do you think of Conyers opposing someone because they dare critisize the fat man with a camera?

It was more than that. I don't know if you saw the original report that is being referenced here, but Gupta said that Moore fudged his facts in the movie Sicko. It was later found out that Gupta and CNN were wrong. I think it's quite absurd to use that solely as the reason to oppose Gupta as Surgeon General. However, people in politics are notoriously absurd, so it doesn't surprise me.

Well, they don't let Osama Bin Laden go to the movies with them anymore because he talks during the important scenes and doesn't bring his own money so he tries to mooch snacks from everyone else.

LOL@ people who do not believe crap like this helps the enemy feel justified.

Well no not LOL at all.....

What do I care what the enemy uses to feel justified. To censor ANYTHING for fear of their sense of justification makes them win anyways.

I thought you would have gotten that, as a libertarian. **** the enemy and whatever they think, keep being free, business as usual.

Hey bud, Did I say censor anyone?

As a libertarian I respect ones right to be an asshole, as a libertarian you should respect my right to call them one.

Thanks!

You :

I find it highly dishonest to claim that it takes a movie to further help terrorists justify killing U.S. troops as opposed to you know : ALL the other stuff they've been using to justify killing U.S. troops LONG before Fahrenheit 9/11 even came out. But I guess some silly movie really got them angry. I guess it's easier to blame some fat guy then it is to make coherent arguments for why factions of Islam want to kill/convert/ blow us up.

Gupta is globally savvy (who hasn't seen him operating on battlefield wounded?), an excellent communicator, a brilliant neurosurgeon who has already established trust and credibility to millions of Americans.

No qualified? Give me a break.

I watch Morning Express with Robin Meade (yummy) and he was on there frequently. He seems to be, on the surface, a man of good character.

Yes, he really does. He comes across as genuine, down-to-earth, politically moderate and credible. When he speaks, people listen... and they believe him. Obama was brilliant to nominate him... can you imagine, a surgeon general that the public actually listens to? What a concept!!!

Well what would you have them do?

You expressed contempt for those who commit said statements, which to me is tantamount to contempt for danish cartoon publishers.

**** the enemy, publish them anyways.

As a libertarian I respect ones right to be an asshole, as a libertarian you should respect my right to call them one.

:2wave:

Why do so many people confuse disagreement with a disrespect for your right to disagree?

I haven't expressed a lack of respect for your RIGHT, I expressed a lack of respect for what you have done with it; your appeals to the enemy's justice. IMO no matter how they feel we should not change our behavior one iota.

I did? there is only one person here telling another they should not speak a certain way, and that is you.

like I said, one has every right to be an asshole, I have every right to call him one.

MM is an asshole, coyners for listening to MM to stand in the way of this Gupta guy because he is friends with MM makes him to an asshole....

note you see me no where saying this guy does not have the right to do anything here.....

enemy's justice? All I said is that when people like MM say "yeah enemy good USA bad, I like donuts", people who do not like the US can use it to say "see, we are right!"

yeah it is his right, it is my right to point out the potential damage his using his rights to be an asshole is....

have i ever said he should not be allowed to make these POS fantasy movies?

Again you are the one telling me I should not be allowed to say something, not me.... :2wave:

I remember you being so much better at this...

Reverend, please quote me saying anything remotely like "you are not allowed to say X"

No, you accused me of doing what you are doing, and wrongly accused me of it... which is why you CANNOT quote me saying ANYTHING remotely like "you are not allowed to say X."

You're full of it today, and it shows.
