On the heels of the Oakland homicide comes the police attemped murder here in Houston on the son of former Cincinnati Reds outfielder Bobby Tolan, who himself has played in the Minor Leagues. The Tolan's live in the almost all-white bedroom community of Bellaire - I said ALMOST all-white. The Tolan's are black. The police saw 2 black men in an upscale SUV, and automatically assumed that they had stolen the car. After Tolan's parents came out of the house to explain it was their car, an altercation ensued, and the mother was thrown against the garage door by the officers. The son? He was shot while he was lying on his back on the ground. He now has a bullet in his liver, and his possible career in sports may be over.

So what could possibly be the good news here? That by the time the lawsuit is over, the Tolan's are going to own a sizable chunk of Bellaire. Meanwhile, many of the good citizens of Houston are demanding an investigaton into what can only be called an attempted murder.

The Bellaire cops can only be termed as psychos, who are extemely rascist, although they like to pick on white people too, occasionally. I personally had a run-in with them about 25 years ago, while I was still working at Texas Instruments. I had just put in a lot of overtime correcting a significant computer problem. I was tired, and pulled into the Burger King near the corner of Bellaire and Bissonnet, and ordered food. on the way out, I broke a traffic law. You couldn't really turn left there without going the wrong way for about 15 feet then going through the opening that divides the 2 sides of the boulevard. As soon as I did that, 2 Bellaire cop cars put on their lights and stopped me. It all went downhill from there. After I rolled down my window and put my hands on the steering wheel, a Bellaire cop put his gun to my head through the window, with the trigger pulled and his thumb on the hammer, so all he had to do to blow my brains out would be to release his thumb. They dragged me out of my car by my hair, and knocked me to the ground. One of them pulled out my wallet out of my pocket, and scattered my ID, credit cards and everything else all over the ground. I did not recover everything, as a couple pieces ended up down a storm drain. One cop asked me if I felt I was above the law by doing what I did. I answered "no sir". He then punched me in the stomach and said "you're damn right you aren't", and all 4 of them started laughing. Another cop proceeded to bust a headlight, then a tail light, then the light that is over the license plate. I got tickets for my illegal turn, the busted headlight, the busted taillight, and had my car towed because it was now unsafe to drive in the dark. It cost me $300.00 to get my car out of impound, and about another $400.00 to fix the damage the cops did to my car.

When my case came to court, I explained what happened to the judge. the judge dropped all the charges except the illegal turn, which he fined me only $10.00 for. It didn't end there. I filed a complaint in person with the FBI field office here, and about a month later, one of the cops was fired. I don't know what happened to the other 3 cops, but I hope it was some kind of disciplinary action. At any rate, none was charged with any kind of crime. They should have gone to prison for what they did. And mine is not the only story. There are hundreds of others over a span of time that stretches all the way back to the 1950's. As for the Tolans, they are asking for criminal charges to be filed, but I won't hold my breath.

So if you accuse me of gloating at the City of Bellaire's misfortune over the huge amount of money they are about to lose, you are damn right. I am gloating my ass off. At least they picked on the wrong guy this time, who has enough money to take their collective asses straight to hell. Take it all, Mr. Tolan. Take every damn penny the City of Bellaire has. The only way these assholes are ever going to learn to obey the law is by knowing that actions like this will result in their becoming penniless.

NOTE: I normally have a very good respect for cops, who are doing a very tough and dirty job, usually without thanks. However, Bellaire has no real cops. What they have are psychos who don't deserve to wear the badge.

May those mother****ers rot in hell.
No amount of money will compensate the Tolans for what they've lost.
What is one's health worth?
It's priceless.
You've only got one liver.

I'd like to see some more details before condemning some people to unending torture.
