Porn industry seeks federal bailout

I think it's actually a pretty bold and hilarious move of the porn industry to ask the federal government for bailout money. I'm sure they'll never get it, though. Do they think we live in Europe or Canada or something? It'd be kind of like asking Pat Robertson to fund a gay pride parade. While many within the federal government may be avid porn enthusiasts behind closed doors, they would never openly support such a thing.
And that is the key, we need politicians with spine, these representatives need to say, once and for all, "If you don't like porn you have every right not to watch it, outside of that, your neighbor has every right TO watch it, don't like it, too bad, next issue please". And back to topic, we don't need to bail any companies out, let the best companies succeed and let the market weed out those companies that are unwilling or too far gone to be viable.

Well, a large part of the problem is that giving the porn industry a bailout would be a huge slap in the face to every fundamentalist religious group and anti-obscenity group in the country. I don't think anyone in our government has the spine to stand up to those groups and it's very unfortunate.

True story.

And not just the religious wackjobs, watch penn & Teller bull****: War on Porn -- for some interesting "people" with interesting "views" on the porn!

One lady calls it rape... and then suggests that because they shave their vajayjays that pretty soon men are gonna want child porn. Oh, and then she fears for what the men who watch porn will do to their daughters.

P.S. She lectures at colleges... :doh

The porno industry is in bad shape and has been for quite some time. A bailout isn't going to help anything. Every single week an average of 600 or so movies gets released. That coupled with the fact that there are now too many girls in the industry who are each individually trying to break free and pull a Jenna Jameson by trying to start their own production company and release even more movies. There's too much product and too little shelf space and because of this, the porno industry is wearing itself thin. I don't see a bailout solving this problem. It is only going to give them a little more time before it all will eventually go down the drain. I also think it's hilarious that they would even try to ask for a federal bailout considering that the porno industry has been in a constant struggle with the federal government since the 70's on obscenity issues and whatnot.
What's the matter, they not screwing hard enough?

I know who you are talking about. I've heard of her before, but I can't remember her name. She's beyond absurd.

I don't think that would change anything. Although, extreme porn is getting more and more mainstream because these companies want to stand apart from the rest of these countless porn companies.

Though, I haven't completely lost hope in the porn industry. As it dies down less and less girls are going to be doing it because it won't make that much money and then it will eventually kind of balance itself out, which will be nice. I also do give the porn industry credit because they essentially won the High-Def format war for Blu-Ray. HD-DVD didn't embrace the porno industry and wouldn't release porno HD-DVD's and that's one of the main reasons of why they lost to Blu-Ray.

This gives a whole new meaning to the term "money shot".

They were discussing this on a morning radio show this morning and a woman called in talking about how if her husband watched porn she would divorce him in a minute because that's cheating on her. According to the female d.j., a majority of women feel that way. I find that interesting. I don't feel it's cheating but I also enjoy to watch it alone and with my guy. I wonder if it's more of a personal thing "I don't like to watch it so you can't enjoy it" type of thing with those women. And to divorce someone because they like to watch porn is rather silly and immature IMO.

I believe it's actually the opposite. I'll find the studies in a bit. But it is still a large % of women.

But they have to be more specific as quite a few of the women consider male + female porn to be okay but just female shots or videos like playboy as cheating.

I can understand it, but I don't agree with it.

Some women I've talked to actually feel threatened by porn because they feel that if a guy is pleasuring himself to the image or video of another woman then they are essentially cheating because it isn't them. I'll never understand that mindset.

If a woman isn't letting you watch porn you aren't asking for sex enough. ;)

I may be missing your point, but my wife and I have a very healthy sex life, and she still dislikes certain kinds of porn.

My point is that if you bother her enough for it, she'll tell you to go watch some so you leave her alone. :)

I don't like "certain kinds of porn" either. :2razz:

Thought for today - I don't see why Congress wouldn't help out the porn industry. After all, they are experts at televising screwing people. Just watch C-SPAN, and watch them screw, screw, screw their constituents.

Move over, Larry Flynt. Congress is here.

(paraphrasing Foxworthy) Wouldn't that be kind of like buying a used car from Budget Car Rentals? Would you really want to put your key in something that has been driven that long and that hard by that many big people?

Hey. at least you can be confident that it will crank every day..... :2razz:

My city is a microcosm of that, we are a majority Catholic and the Dioses over here doesn't really get political, outside of societal/fundraiser kinds of things, but we have an extremely loud southern baptist church that makes things annoying. City of over 100k that used "community standards" to eliminate the legitimate selling of porn within the parish(county elsewhere), mid-eighties ban on MTV(that has since been dropped), tried to get Motley Crue banned because of the "Shout at the Devil" album, etc. etc. My city could get actual stuff done, but is too busy trying to pacify these jack asses to get real and necessary work done instead of passing stupid laws that limit freedoms and don't really accomplish anything.

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that Robertson might fund a gay pride parade. After all, Ted Haggard definitely would.
Or maybe Larry Craig could be tapped for some gay pride parade funding. Oh, wait a minute... he's not gay!

Ted Haggard was the answer to a question on Cash Cab last night. I guess he truly has made his mark on history.:2razz:

I can see why people would laugh about something like this, but the sexy industry is rather large in terms of its annual revenue and the taxes the government makes off of it. If the economy begins to suffer then people on average will have less leisure money to spend on sexual entertainment. This in turns means a declining industry.

I'm not sure why the porn industry deserves special treatment though. If the economy in general is hurting then usually everyone is hurting to some extent... why do some deserve a bailout while others don't?

I believe it's the start of a lawsuit by Flynt to show the bailouts as unconstitutional.
I hope he is successful.

That's an interesting take, and I wouldn't put it past Mr. Flynt to pull something like that, if that is his game I agree with it.

he's not looking so good
