Joe the Plumber to become war correspondent

It seems opinion journalism is taking over. Perhaps that is the problem, I--for one--do not care about the opinion of the newsman/woman. I just want the news, straight up.

Networks are looking maximize profits therefore the standards of journalism have lowered in the quest for eyeballs.

understandable, I would say our current popularity in op-ed stems from a general dumbing down of entertainment consumers to begin with, coupled with a loss of journalistic integrity overall, hell, I get more balanced information from the opinion guys these days, or at least it feels like it. The last straw, I think was the early to mid 1990's, Jenny Jones, Jerry Springer, Dr. Phil, Ricky Lake and even to a lesser degree Oprah lowered the bar for entertainment, and they were treated with way more credibility than they deserved, so I think they kind of opened the door for the infotainment industry, ala op-ed, to become the larger news providers.

How can you possibly think Jerry Springer lowered the bar? :2razz:

You're right, he obliterated it, we went from the basement to the sewer.:doh

I propose a five year moratorium on Jerry Springer video games.

I was unaware that Springer was trying to play the integrity game. There are no qualms what his show is about. I daresay, its not his fault if people take his show seriously.

You mean I should not care about them home-wrecking bee-atches carrying the spawn of my ho of a boyfriend? Damn, I was just ready to wrastle them, and rip off their shirts. Oh, well.

Well to be fair to him, he was on Maury, and he is not the father.....

Oh, good. I knew they were lying bee-atches.

Now I'm gonna let him move back into the trailor so I can support his lazy ass cuz I love him. :2razz:

You're right, Springer was supposed to be the lowest common denominator, and it was a hit, which is my overall point, the covert and proud trash in the nineties was a symptom of the overall problem, a dumbing down of the overall information consumer, but it goes further than that, once shows that exploit that kind of entertainment become a hit, then that's what we will continue to see since it is so easy to produce.

Well to be fair to him, he was on Maury, and he is not the father.....
Don't even get me started on Maury, that is THE worst of the worst in exploitative "journalism".

You -do- know that "elitist" refers to your 'better than thou' mindset rather than any actual superiority in intelligence or knowledge -- right?
Then say holier than though instead of elitist. I have heard many people on the right talk about those elitist college professors or those elitist businessmen... They called Obama an elitist because he's a ****ing brilliant guy. So don't give me your bull**** :spin:

Its really quite simple:

Joe The Plumber had the audacity to legitimately question The Obama, and in doing so, exposed The Obama for what he really is.

The Obamanistas cannot allow this to stand, and so are driven to discredit Joe every chance they get.
It couldn't be that Joe the not so much a plumber, is a liar and that the "right" aggrandized and exalted this liar and his lie and then got caught being liars. So, like Palin, every time he pops up like a bad case of herpies we get to dump the medication on him. :2wave:

No. It couldn't be.

Heaven forbid anyone who dares ask the Messiah a question not sanctioned by the priests of liberalism. :2wave:

I don't get why they feel the need to discredit Joe "the Plumber"? Doesn;t the need to discredit someone imply that they have a reason to be creditted to begin with?
The "right" credited him. McCain and Palin made a star out of a liar so why shouldn't we call him a liar every time he's in the media? After all, he's only in the media because of his lies. Like I said, I don't fault him for taking the job, if it doesn't bother him that he gets reminded that he's a dumbass and a liar or that he's laughed at as nothing more than a passing fad that someone is expoiting... Like I said, being a dumbass used to be something shamed, not priased.

Why?

You kinda slipped right off into the deep end there.

My point was merely that academic credentialing is nothing more than a credential. And has we have seen recently, academic credentialing has not prevented journalists from becoming daily editorialists in their articles or mitigated their social change activism.

Hyperbole, much? You'd do well to read more closely.

No, what it means is that academic credentialing is nothing more than a credential.

Talk to old school newspaper guys and they'll be up-front with you that j-school ain't all that and, in fact, has become as infected with liberal do-goodism as the cultural studies departments leading to j-school grads who want to solve social problems rather than report the news.
No it means that you at least qualify intellectually to start and then, that you spent the time and money to improve your general knowledge base, your ability to think and learn and shows a focus on a career path in most cases. It is also a symbol of pride for many people. It certainly doesn't guarantee, integrity or intellectual curiosity, just look at GWBush as an example, but it does show you made an effort in most cases.

I hope I helped you understand what a degree means to most people...

The "right" credited him. McCain and Palin made a star out of a liar....
By whining and crying at every mention of his name, the only people making Joe a star are those (like you) on the looney left.

He laughs at you, every day.

No they called obama an "elitist" because of his big mouth about "bitter Americans" comments...
