Iranian president to deliver Channel 4's (UK) alternative Christmas message

This is simply false.

It's very sad that people continue to repeat these dangerous claims.

Right cause you say so.... Evidence is plenty,, go ahead and google it..

As for the speech, it was unspectacular. Same old talking points mixed with religious dogma, I hope Iranians will at least elect someone more pragmatic in the future.

Yup, same old crap from a despot.

I say we invite them all to have some airtime together to express their misunderstood points of view.......and in the meantime drop a bomb on them:mrgreen:

And I find it terribly ironic that these sentiments come from the followers of the peaceful and loving son of God, Jesus.

Imagine if you had this same amount of outrage to those who want to kill Americans.... :2wave:

Ahmadinejad has never called for the extermination of any group of people in the Middle East. No amount of "googling" will make it otherwise.

Yup, same old crap from a despot.

A despot who won an election with a pretty large turnout against several competing candidates?

I see no reason as to refuse him airtime to wish people Happy Christmas apart from predjudices.

This fetish with avoiding any and all prejudice is nauseating. Just more of the national suicide...errr...multiculturalism nonsense that substitutes distinctions between right and wrong with feel-good moral relativity and equivalencies.

I'm certainly prejudiced against terror-sponsoring dictators that favor annihilating Israel.

Aren't you?

Or do you and others think terror-sponsoring dictators who want to annihilate other countries are just misunderstood?

This place reeks of this feel-good nonsense. Grow a backbone.

No?

Yeah, he never said anything like this at all.

You're just like all those old Soviet sympathizers that were accurately described as "useful idiots" for their unceasing support for totalitarian dictators.

A despot who won an election with a pretty large turnout against several competing candidates?

Another toadie, eh? He won an election where opposition candidates cannot get on a ballot without the explicit approval of the mullahs.

You know, we have useful idiots like this littering our State Department. Fools that characterize countries like Saddam's Iraq and Iran as "democracies" because elections are held. What a complete misunderstanding of democracy. In fact, no reasonable person can so misunderstand democracy, such characterizations require certain sympathies with guys like Saddam, the ruling mullahs, and other despots.

Why do these sorts of people so hate western civilization?

And I find it terribly ironic that these sentiments come from the followers of the peaceful and loving son of God, Jesus.

And what are going to be your rightious words of wisdom if we stand back and do nothing...only to see Iran having success in their stated intentions of annihilating Isreal?......("Oops")?

Yeah, he never said anything like this at all.

He certainly never called for the extermination of any group of people in the Middle East.

Claiming Israel is an illegitimate state which should cease to exist is not the same as calling for the death of it population. If you ever choose to educate yourself on this issue you will find his positions on the Israeli-Palestinian issue are easily available and involve all the people in the region surviving and living in peace with one another.

Heh, you're a bit like Joe McCarthy!

Another toadie, eh? He won an election where opposition candidates cannot get on a ballot without the explicit approval of the mullahs.

Those elections were by no means perfect, nor have I ever claimed otherwise. They did however represent a broad enough portion of the Iranian population to bring over half of them to the polls. To claim a person who competes in competitive election and shares power with both a legislative and "religious" branch of government is a despot, shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the word.

The US state department used to charecterized Iraq as a democracy? I knew US bureaucracy's aren't that highly regarded, but I didn't know the situation was the dire!

People die, nations fall. As long as the one that falls is not innocent I fail to see any good in stopping events already set in motion.

Wow! I'm at a complete loss for words here! I guess if you saw a pediphile trying to coax a young child into a car you would just stand back and watch because events are set in motion!?

Israel is already a failed nation. It only survives because of hand outs from the U.S.

Ahmadinejad is just pointing out the obvious.

As more and more countries see Israel for the evil and rogue state that it is.

Israel will become isolated to the point that it will collaspe and the Zionist rulers will be driven from office and arrested for crimes against humanity.

A child is innocent. An event happening within in sight and one on the other side of the world are not the same. You Fail.

While I don't agree that Israel is being propped up. I believe without its allies there would be a terrible war. Israel has defied odds before, without the direct involvement of Western powers. In struggles such as Israel there is ever an innocent party. "War crimes" are usually meaningless, just the victor exercising vengeance on the loser.

He certainly never called for the extermination of any group of people in the Middle East.

The Israeli's don't count?

Claiming Israel is an illegitimate state which should cease to exist is not the same as calling for the death of it population.

Then what does he mean he says he intends to rid the Middle East of Israel, to wipe her off the map?

What? He's going to drop leaflets over Israel warning Israeli's and the 4+ millions Arabs living there to flee 'cuz he's gonna nuke Israel is 72 hours?

Are you serious?

If you ever choose to educate yourself on this issue you will find his positions on the Israeli-Palestinian issue are easily available and involve all the people in the region surviving and living in peace with one another.

Living in peace together?

Are you serious?

In the link I provided he above he not only threatens Israel but any other Middle Eastern nation that he believes is helping Israel.

He said: "Anybody who recognises Israel will burn in the fire of the Islamic nation's fury, [while] any [Islamic leader] who recognises the Zionist regime means he is acknowledging the surrender and defeat of the Islamic world." He was addressing a conference titled The World Without Zionism.

Yeah, that certainly reflects his desire to live in peace with "Anybody who recognises Israel"... :doh

And you're right, his declarations to rid the world of Israel are easily available and easy to find. Here's another:

Yeah, that's called living in peace, eh?

Heh, you're a bit like Joe McCarthy!

Hmm, you're accurately called out for your unceasing support for totalitarian and terror-sponsoring dictators and you suggest I'm like McCarthy? Okay, I'll take that. As it turns out, McCarthy was right, the Soviets had infiltrated our governmental institutions. See the Verona Papers.

Those elections were by no means perfect, nor have I ever claimed otherwise.

Huh? You appealed to Iranian elections as some reflection of legitimacy. Elections where the slate of candidates is explicitly controlled by the mullahs ain't nothing close to legitimate election process.

That you posted such an appeal necessarily means that you believed those elections were legitimate.

They did however represent a broad enough portion of the Iranian population to bring over half of them to the polls. To claim a person who competes in competitive election and shares power with both a legislative and "religious" branch of government is a despot, shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the word.

I see, so holding such illegitimate elections completely dissolves any responsibility he has for ordering brutal crackdowns on labor unions, on college students, who shut down critical papers, imprison internet bloggers, etc. when they dare to protest?

Because popularly elected despots are not really despots at all, right?

The US state department used to charecterized Iraq as a democracy?

Careerists, yes. Just as they did with Iran when Deputy Secretary of State under Powell, Richard Armitage, labeled Iran a "democracy."

I knew US bureaucracy's aren't that highly regarded, but I didn't know the situation was the dire!

It is.

Amir Taheri tells us why Iran in not a democracy:
So, why are 80 members of the 290-member Islamic Consultative Assembly — the Iranian parliament — behaving like an opposition and holding a sit-in amid threats of mass resignation?

The reason is that the next general election, to be held on Feb. 20, could end the parliamentary career of many of them, not because of rejection by voters but because they won’t even be allowed to stand.

A couple of months ago Richard Armitage, the No. 2 at the U.S. State Department, described the Islamic Republic of Iran as “a sort of democracy.”

Well, he was sort of right if by democracy we mean the holding of regular elections without bothering about their quality and purpose.

In a normal democracy anyone who does not have a criminal record and meets basic qualifications, such as citizenship, is allowed to stand for elected office. But this is not the “sort of democracy” that Iran has had since the mullahs seized power in 1979.

Your unquestioning support of the terrorists in Tehran is, well, surprising, and alarming. You're like these former Soviet useless idiots that buy the propaganda hook, line, and sinker, and then go about prostelyzing it. Amazing.

More from Taheri about the so-called "democracy" in Iran:
In Iran all candidates must be pre-approved by a body known as The Council of the Guardians of the Constitution, a 12-man, mullah-dominated organ appointed by the “Supreme Guide” and answerable to him...

Yeah, that's democracy...

It's just a load of propaganda.
People are just buying into his crap hook, line, and sinker.

Saying they receive financial aid and saying they are being propped up are two completely different things.

Not to anti-Semites whose only interest in such discussions is to smear the Jews and advocate their elimination.

And judging someone solely by 3 sentences is not "buying into" propaganda? Do yourself a favor and think for yourself.

Sort of like calling for the abolishing of the state of Israel is the same as genocide of all Jews in the eyes of someone like yourself?

Without the money, weapons, and military backing of the U.S.

Israel would collaspe and be over run by the nations against her.

The money and weapons are irrelevant, Israel develops many of its own weapons. As I said before, there would be war if the US was not Israel's chief ally. Israel has been at war for most of its existence and proven many times its resilience.

The only problem with your post is that it hasn't been merely a call to abloish Israel, but rather to "wipe it off the map."

Now, maybe you believe that such a call includes a provision that Isrealis will receive 72 hours notice to get the hell out of Israel before Iran nukes them, but I don't.

Why are you so charitable towards terror-sponsoring dictators that are calling not only to eliminate Israel and wipe her off the map but also threatens other Middle East nations with nuclear attack if their recognize Israel or deal with her?

Well?
